No, it's not one of those sudden scare clips that have been floating around on teh intarweb since forever, just a damn good story. ;)

...or is it just a story? What if...

Oh, I recommend reading it late at night.

That's a pretty creepy story. Sort of like HP Lovecraft minus the insanely huge vocabulary. I don't want to spoil anything for people that haven't read it, but by around page 6 it really gets you hooked.

Very spooky story! I had goosebumps throughout the creepy parts, and I'm at work with all the lights on. I only have one problem with it but I'll have to save it for later so as not to ruin anybody else's reading experience.

"I only have one problem with it"

What? The fact that you get a 404 error on page 11!?

I skipped right to the end (stopping to read the journal entries), suspecting something may be waiting for me at the end...

LOL Way to ruin the story Steve.

(The 404 page is intentional.)

Yeah Steve, it's supposed to mean that he didn't come back!

It's based off a short story called Fear of Darkness by Thomas Lera that's been adapted to look like an internet journal. If you wanna see what happens after Ted goes back in for the last time then track it down and see what happens.

Well, then who posted the story!? Why would he link an html document to something he didn't write already!? Besides, the site was last updated March 4, 2004, NOT the posted May 19, 2001. The debunker has spoken! It is officially a hoax! Nothing to be scared about here folks! ;) LOL I get the idea Renz. Just busting your balls! :p Thank the gods I didn't read that whole thing though... It would be worth it to throw in some scary pop-ups every once in a while to keep you interested! Maybe some MIDI music to keep the mood alive! LOL How about something from the original Doom?

LOL Hey... isn't that the guys dog!? Hmmm, what have you done to Ted!?

Edit: I have now phoned the FBI and told them everything I know about a guy named Renz, and about the spelunkers Ted, Joe, Mr. B and their dog, and about how they disappeared...

Blair Cave Project was pretty good. What made it really good was that I read it last night right after watching The Grudge, so I was already antsy as hell when I started reading it.

I caught this on TTLG and read it at work the same day. I *could* *not* *stop* until I'd reached the end (needless to say, I didn't get much work done that day!) It works so well because it's a story of creeping terror, rather than sudden scares or shocks. I also find it simultaneously creepy and compulsive the way they keep going back to the cave to make the hole bigger, despite the fact that "weird things" are happening (just enough to make you know something's not right, but not enough to stop them digging).

Renz, did you ever find a working link to the original story?

Nope, unfortunately. Every link for the actual story leads back to the same dead site.

I found a thread from a couple of years ago about it. The link to the "missing chapter" where Ted and Joe go back to the cave is broken, though.
