I am in desperate need of a new game. No more first person shooters. What happened to the blow **** up games. Remember Wargames? Was cool for its time and could even play it heads up against your buddy. Thats what i am looking for...

What kind of wargames are talking about? I'm really into age of wonders: shadow magic right now. It's a top down, turn based stategy game set in a medieval/fantasy setting. I highly recomend it although you won't be blowing anything up with bombs or grenades.
Wargames is a RTS similar to that of the C&C variety. I recall [from what, 6 years ago maybe] that the AI in Wargames was a bit agressive, though made for a good challenge.
AoW:Shadow Magic is a great TBS game for sure & ofcourse Im gonna pimp the Disciples2 series too!
Hey Mavrik, thats some gaming rig you've got there! :
Pentium 4 3.2E with Hyperthreading
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB
1GB Golden Dragon PC3500 RAM
Raptor 10000 RPM HD 75GB
Plextor DVD-RW
Hows that 10 grand HD perform? I sure wish the were more affordable, & also in the 2 1/2"
variety [for mobility].

Shadow Magic was a cool game, really old and dated though. But it's definitely only for the turn-based crowd.
Right now, I'm in a PC drought and my gaming is pouring back to the PS2. I just grabbed Devil May Cry 3, Tekken 5 and Shadow Hearts Covenant last weekend. And I spent the entire weekend playing Tekken 5 :)
Now I just need to wait for Super Robot Wars Alpha 3!
The PC arena looks out of juice for me until Guild Wars comes out. After that, I'm looking forward to Stronghold 2. It sucks that they pushed Stalker back again, though.

I guess I just don't consider games that came out in 2003 that old for pc gaming. However, I hardly ever buy the latest, newest games, so I guess I'm biased. For example, I just bought theif gold today, lol. Maybe, if I like it, next year I'll pick up deadly shadows. So, yeah, I'm a little behind the times. I just don't generally trust the newest games to be that great or to be worth 50 bucks and up. If I wait a few months on them one, I get to discriminate more based upon reviews and user feedback and two, I can usually get three slightly older used games for the price of one of the new latest and greatest. Anyways, so many of the hot games coming out these days are sequels, sometimes not as good as their predecessors, and I can usually entertain myself playing older versions of the same thing. I do want to pick up Rome one of these days, but in the meantime medieval is giving me pleny of gaming goodness.
Anyway, I'm not aware of a newer version of something like aow: sm, and I think the graphics and especially gameplay on that title are more than fine. In fact, it might still be the best example of any game in its specific genre.
Stronghold 2....boy! Its been awhile since Ive heard any talk about this one!
I do sooo hope that there will be more detailed structure building involved [afterall, its a Castle Sim].

Well, although Shadow Magic came out 2003, its look is totally dated, it looks like a game from the start of the millenium. Still, it's the best turn-based fantasy game at the moment IMO. It has edged out Warlords IV, and is easily better than Disciples. It's still a bit different from the Dispciples HOMM type of games but IMO overall I prefer Shadow Magic. It's also better than its predecessors AOW1 and AOW2, And although I might argue that Master of Magic had a little something that Shadow Magic doesn't; unfortunately, since MoM won't even run on today's PCs properly anymore, not to mention its super-dated graphics, Shadow Magic is definitely the best game of its type right now.
I don't disagree with your policy of getting older games first, considering I don't even get to finish half the games I get these days, there's definitely loads of older games that can take my time.
Also, just because a game is new, definitely doesn't mean it's good. It *might* have better graphics but as long as game is still easy on the eye, I don't really care about that. Lots of older games get the formula right and play perfectly as opposed to newer games that look better but just plain suck. An added detriment might be that it won't run smoothly on your rig. Whereas older games are almost gauranteed to run perfectly.
In addition, I have to admit I still play older games. More than newer games actually. For instance, I just canned Doom 3 a few hours into it and went back to playing Max Payne Kung Fu edition.
On the PS2, I've been neglecting Devil May Cry 3 and I'm still playing Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 (2 year old game) and Phantom Brave (1 year old).
Still, I can't help but want to pick up some of the newer titles as soon as they come out. I'm definitely getting Stronghold 2 as soon as I can, same with Dungeon Lords and Stalker. And I'll probably even be upgrading my PC as soon as Oblivion comes out.

ET, I still can't wait for Stronghold 2. I logged so many hours playing Stronghold and Crusaders, there simply hasn't been any other game of its type to come out in recent years and Stronghold 2 looks like the only game that will give me my build-a-castle-and-go-siege fix.

There are other TBS games out? Hehhe.
Well I guess it does look better than I remember. I think I might be remember a little too much of Age Of Wonders 1 whenever I hear Age of Wonders. Now AOW1, that game had HORRIBLE graphics.

Well, considering the other games you mentioned... now THEY had horrible graphics... Disciples and Warlords IV... Ug. Now they sucked and looked like ass.

Disciples 2 had bad map graphics but all the other parts of the game had GREAT graphics. The character designs were especially impressive.
Warlords IV... just looks ugly. ;)
