Wow, I decided to get Riddick this afternoon from my local ebx since I saw a used copy for $20, so I grabbed it, it had no manual thats proberly why it was only $20, installed it and immediately noticed it used my 64-bit athlon processor and instantly the gameplay was hyper smooth with some of the best textures i've seen to date, not one have I had any lag or jerky gameplay, so anyway i've been playing for a few hours now and loving it, reminds me of the thief series in many ways, just better. I just love shooting out the lights and listening to some jerk swearing in the distance lol

Sounds pretty sweet. Question: how do you know that this game, or any game for that matter, is taking advantage of the 64 bit technology? I just got a new comp with an amd 64 3000+ and it would be nice to know if/when the processor is being taken full advantage of. I do have say that unreal tournament 03 has become a new experience altogether with this rig. Even sticking with my old graphics card- a g4 ti 4800- the new processor and gig of corsair ram make this game absolutely fly with every detail maxed out and thirty bots on a massive map. On the other hand, deus ex 2, while running better than it did before- the framerates were so slow it was unplayable on my xp 1800+ with 512 megs of ram- still does not run all that smoothly even when I tone down all the graphics settings. What gives? Is this game just programmed badly, or is it that dependent upon a pricey new graphics card to run right?
Anyway, I just picked up far cry and I'm about to install it. EB is now selling new copies of this for twenty clams. And I was just about to buy one of their used copies for twenty five. I swear, EB, at least my local one, is going down the toilet when it comes to their devotion to pc gaming. My latest problem with them, and there have been many (although from time to time I have also walked in and found some amazing deals on used games- they just have no clue, or consistency when it comes to pricing them), occured when I bought a used copy of ut 2004 and it came with no manual. No manual, no code. No code, no installation. And when I took it back they would only give me store credit!
Anyway, I'm rambling. I've had my eye on Riddick for a while now since people here seem to like it. Almost picked it up the other day used. Except my EB had it for twenty six instead of twenty. Go figure...

In the system draw I noticed theres specific files for Amd64 processors as well as more tradional ones, and yes when I install newer games I check through system files hehe
I completed Riddick earlier, definately an excellent thrill ride of a game :) Definately recommend it!

I found a copy of UT2004 for $27. Over here that's a bargain, not to mention a statistically improbable find. I'm thinking of picking it up but I'm still going through Doom 3, and some Max Payne mods that caught my attention. Kung Fu Payne!!!

Just make sure that ut has the game manual with it. Otherwise you'll be missing the code.
I've simply had no luck with new games lately. ut didn't have the code, and far cry, which I exchanged it for, freezes my comp everytime I try to load it. It probably isn't the games fault however. Sometimes when I quit ut 2003 I get a really nasty fatal error crash. Something in my comp still isn't right and I suspect it has to do with the bios or mobo drivers. I still haven't activated my win xp yet so I think this weekend I'm going to do a complete reformat and try installing a different kind of SATA drivers and basically start over from scratch. Does anyone know if all my bios flashes will be erased once I do the reformat and reinstallation, or is that not effected? Does anyone's comp here run absolutely perfectly (at least within the limitations of its hardware)? Is that simply too much to ask for?

Flashing is permanent until you flash it again, so reformat without worries.
My PC works perfectly fine within its specs, except for my sound. Not sure if it's a Mobo problem, but I get a soft hum which is totally annoying when I crank up the volume. It's almost inaudible and not much of a problem at lower volumes or when I'm actually listening to anything, but when silence comes in and the speaker volume is up it's annoying.
It's present on the onboard sound as well as on any soundcards I plunk in. I think it may be the mobo but it might also be that the case isn't ground correctly, I really don't know. I've given up trying to fix it and have just learned to live with it. Other than that, everything on my rig runs perfectly.

You'll definitely need to activate your WinXp and get all the updates. Installing the Service Packs may get rid of your fatal crashes.
You'll also want to update all your drivers(sound, video, nic, mobo, etc.) from the manufacturer's websites. Don't use the recommended driver updates from windows update. But if you have an ATI card use the Omega drivers. And NO, reinstalling your windows from scratch will not affect your BIOS flashes.
I've done everything above and my computer is running smoothly. My system has only crashed once when I was using the official ATI Catalyst 4.12. After I've removed those and installed the Omega 4.12 my systems has not crashed since.

The only similarities are A) You can use shadows to your advantage, B) you can use stealth to sneak up on people and C) Your movement, especially turning, is a little clunky, forcing you to fall off narrow beams. But it's still alot more Shooter than Sneaker.
