I'm looking for some help here on finding a new game. I've been playing diablo 2 since it came out and its one of my favorites of all time. Are there any fairly new games out there that are similar as far as the multi-player, character enhancement, and random drop styles are concerned. Help would be greatly appreciated.

I would check out beyond divinity. not sure about multiplayer for this though.

I hear Sacred is "similar" to Diablo, you might want to check out Dungeon Siege also.

Get Divine Divinity before you get Beyond...it's a far better game.

Indeed. As well, try out Neverwinter Nights and the upcoming Guild Wars.

I really loved divine divinity right up to the point where all my save game files were corrupted and I had to trash all of my progress. Sometimes there is a fix for this, but in my case there wasn't. At some point I'll try it again, making sure to keep save games that are several hours and even days old, but the experience left a bad taste. I hear that the final levels of the game aren't that great anyway so I may just skip it.

For single player, Divine Divinity was great. It's basically Diablo combined with Ultima. Great game. Avoid Beyond Divinity, I found it to be an inferior game to its predecessor Divine Divinity. I recommend you try starting it over again, but then again you could just try getting some of the newer stuff.

I don't really recommend Sacred, the usage of special abilities isn't smooth and leaves me feeling unhappy compared to the wanton destruction I could wreak in Diablo 2. While some of the classes seemed interesting and it had the same Ultima-style approach Divine had, I found Divine to be the better game by far.

There are other things you might want to try like Mox and Dungeon Siege but I would recommend you try Guild Wars when it comes out in like a month or two. It's multiplayer and it's by the same team that made Diablo.

Yeah, having about 50 hours of game time erased before you reach the end of the story does tend to ruin the rpg experience just a little bit. ;)

I have both Sacred and NeverWinter nights platnum, I loved Diablo 2 for like 3 years! I lost 2 of my accounts, after that I felt like I wasted my life! So I moved on to sacred, Its not bad, good graphics, alright story line, but sometimes I just felt confused during the end of the game, like WTF just happened!! Ha I love neverwinter nights, souly on the Combat style, sort of a KNights of the Old republic feel, not to mention the DOD totaly customize your character.
In my opion, neverwinter nights!

Hey everyone thanks for all the help. People have mentioned neverwinter nights to me before so ill probably check that out. i've been sitting here at work the last two days with nothing to do except look at this stuff so i recently discovered middle earth online. My first mmorpg experience (with FFXI) wasnt all that great but im pretty much obsessed with the lord of the rings so this might be just what im looking for. I like the idea that it is based more off of the books than the movies. If anyone wants to write any positives or negatives about the upcoming game im all ears. thanks again for all the help. Maybe ill start a new thread.

Negative- Subscription based monthly fees.

NWN and Guild Wars- none.

For bang for the buck NwN is by far the best pick. I own Divine Divinity (no multiplayer but otherwise very good-deep game) Sacred Plus-good looking game with a huge land, Dungeon Siege is very fun multiplayer and a game not to be missed.

The mod support for NwN is huge and you can get so many things for this game it is hard to not recommend.

Do i have to buy both expansion packs for NwN or just the most recent?

You'll need and probably want to get the expansions, a lot of the mods need the expansion packs plus latest patch in place to work.

While this may sound like a big deal, this is available in one package. Neverwinter Nights Platinum (about 50 bucks or so). Besides, the expansion packs are 100% better than the original NWN campaign. One last thing- online is the way to go with the game in my opinion.

If you're looking for a great game on a budget check out Dungeon Siege. You can get the expansion and original for 20 bucks. I'm not sure how the online community is now days, but it was quite healthy about a year ago. It's a suspiciously similar experience to Diablo 2.

But if you're not afraid to dish out major bucks go with World of Warcraft. The Warcraft story has always been better than that of Lord of the Rings IMO. But more or less the same (humans vs. orcs).

BTW, I've been playing on another server with my friends in case you Thunderlord guys were wondering. It seems like I'm just always trying to catch up to them, that's why I haven't had time to go on Thunderlord lately. Hopefully I will soon though.
