2-D games

So few, so few. Here's the ones I know of.

Viewtiful Joe 1, 2-GCN/PS2
Ikaruga-GCN
Klonoa 2-PS2
Contra: Shattered Soldier-PS2
Metal Slug 3-XBOX
Gradius V-PS2(THE Ikaruga Killer)
Alien Hominid-GCN/PS2

Are there any more? Someone please tell me there are. Please. Also, when does the Metal Slug 4 and 5 combo come out?

I also got me a DS, so if there's anyone that can recommend any 2-D shooters on the GBA, that'd be grand. Any others other than Contra 3, the three Castlevania games, and Astro Boy.

And since we're on the subject of recommendations, how's about some of the best 2-D shooter/action games from the PS1 era. I can't recommend Castlevania: Symphony of the Night or Einhander enough. Not to mention the Oddworld games. Or Raystorm. I heard that there was a couple of more games in the Ray series, but IDUNNO.

I'd also like to take a bong hit in honor of the last of the 2-D generation. Peace out.

There is nothing wrong with making 2D games. Unfortunately people don't buy them. When PSOne first arrived, I remember Sony stating that they wanted to focus on 3D games. I use to play Street fighter on Saturn and it ran alot faster than on PSone. Anyhow. Alien Hominid isn't polished but shows what can be done if some creativity is put into a game. PLEAEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESE COME BACK 2D!!!!!

Sounds like you need a Saturn

Not only does it boast Treasure games like Guardian heroes, siluette Mirage and Radiant silvergun but is home to the Best game ever made, NiGHTS - which plays in 2D.

GBA, you forgot about Megaman Zero dude, although it's hard as nails.

i feel that the 2d gaming is going to make a mega comback with the DS and PSP. Games like street fight i have beenwaiting for a handheld to play these with the graphics and sound up to par for a long like. and heres another that is coming back: Castlevania! is coming to the DS!

Then just go out and buy a GBA (or a DS, since it's compatable)

You'll find an arcade perfect SSF2T, a version of Alpha 3 only missing resolution (okay, and some miscelanious stuff like entrances) and KOF EX2 is a really proper KOF game.

Anyway, the inclusion of 3D hardware in the new handhelds is if anything a final push toward death for 2D. 90% of the industry can't see the merits anymore and the end of this last fronteir means there's not a real excuse anymore to refuse contemporary culture.
