Okay, first one. I reinstalled Thief Gold so I could play some Thief 1 fan missions. Thief Gold runs fine, and I can launch Thief Gold from Darkloader without a problem. However, when I launch a fan mission from Darkloader the screen goes black like it's going to start before popping back to the desktop. I can see in the Thief directory that the fan mission files were installed, but the mission won't start (this then mucks up Thief, and I have to delete and restore the strings directory and do some general monkeying around to get it working again). I keep Thief, Thief fan missions, and a copy of Darkloader on a separate drive from Thief 2. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the file overwriting that Darkloader does, and I recall having this issue before with Thief Gold and Darkloader a long long time ago, but I can't remember. Anyway, the TTLG forums of all places haven't been helpful, and I know there are a couple of Thief FM players here.
Second, I finished Thief : Deadly Shawdows, and I'm glad I played it. A fitting end to the Garrett saga. Despite several issues (some I found less annoying than others) that people have already mentioned, there is a lot of good stuff in this game. Also, I hear that the Ion Storm developers have been quietly working on getting that editor to the public, but some technical and political issues must be worked out before it is released. That editor would certainly turn this game into a 'must have' for Thief players (I would love to see a Return to the Cradle mission!).
