This was the last thing I posted in the old forum right before the new one finally opened up. I'm reposting it, because who's going to hang out at the old forum anymore?

"Go-Go Hypergrind," by Atlus.
I hadn't even heard of this one, but it sounds really cool. IGN's preview was enthusiastic. The basic plot is that a bunch of cartoon character's are auditioning for a whacked out skateboard movie.

Here's a couple of things they had to say about this violent cell shaded skateboarding game:
"Besides for the cutesy look of Hypergrind, the unique twist to this game is that you get points for putting the hurt on your character. Hitting the X button when you're near particular objects will cause a negative reaction to occur. These consist of such feats as decapitating yourself, skateboarding into an outhouse to get covered in poo, knocked around by giant swaying breasts, or lighting yourself on fire and then igniting a stick of TNT. (Yes folks, Go! Go! will be rated Teen).
Once you've triggered a negative reaction, a reaction meter will pop up on the bottom of your screen. You get bonus points for linking together reactions, and you can keep your reaction meter filled up by performing tricks."
Also:
"Go! Go! Hypergrind is fast, fun, kooky, and it looks great. Blending the distinct SPUMCO artwork, mutilations, and comedy with accessible and goofy gameplay make Hypergrind a more than promising addition to the extreme sports library. Atlus plans for it to arrive exclusively on the GameCube this November."

YUCK! After reading the game description, IMO, the gameplay sounds as boring as hell.

As far as these types of games go, it might be cool. The only skateboarding game I've played is Tony Hawk III. It was fun, but I don't think I'll be buying another skateboarding game, even if you do score extra points for decapitating yourself or grinding the boobage. I posted it because people are always going on about the need for third party exclusives, and this isn't even g-rated.

Is the crap.

It's the only skater game I've ever liked. I'm not so sure how much room there is out there for skaters. Lots of other x games related stuff doesn't seem so successful.

Hmmm, using the violence as a gimmick rarely makes a successful game in the past... They would have been better off just letting yourself come up with creative ways to blow yourself up -cartoon-style- and labelling it Jackass: The Game. The skateboarding seems thrown in as an afterthought.

This game sounds like something that I'll probably at least give a rental to see if I like it. However, my "dream game" that I'm still waiting for is some kind of Coyote & Roadrunner game with similar gameplay (falling off cliffs, getting anvil dropped on head, rocket lodged in rectum, etc).

What?! How do you explain Grand Theft Auto and all it's clones success? Don't tell me that people are just playing those games for the gameplay. Without the violence and sexual themes, it wouldn't be 1/4 as popular as they are now.
