I am interested in writing reviews online but what is the best way to get started? can u write reviews on this site?
Sorry it took so long for you to get a response.
You can write reviews for games (#) here in our reviews section.
You can find the game you want to review by searching by genre here http://www.videogamereview.com/reviewscrx.aspx
Or by platform and Title here http://www.videogamereview.com/ (bottom of the page)
If you notice at the very bottom of this page, you will see the latest contest winner. :)
We run a monthly contest, and choose a well written and informative review. This person wins the game of their choice.
I hope to see more people posting great reviews!

Getting your start here isn't a bad idea at all. This is where I got my real start back in 1999, getting accustomed to writing reviews in a more organized fashion. After winning a few "Review of the Day" awards, my work was spotted by the editor of a small website, and I got my first reviewing "gig". Of course, this was right before the dot-com crash... and it's certainly a lot harder now to get an actual JOB writing reviews.
If your work gets recognized here, you should keep links to your work organized and put them into a writing "portfolio" of sorts, so that you can direct potential "employers" right to your work and they can see whether your writing style fits what they're looking for.
All kinds of smaller fansites are always looking for talented writers, so keep your eyes open for places to apply. Aside from that, be sure to do the obvious when writing reviews-- such as checking your spelling and grammar, making sure your writing is clear and concise, and so on.
Best of luck to you!

I'm thinking of writing an automated "review of the day" script. We had one back in the day, but that sorta fell on the wayside. Review of the day would be featured on the homepage... and possibly another page listing past "review of the day"s.

Hello Peter!!! Nice to see a familiar name from the past.
Thank you for posting excellent advice for the budding reviewer. I can't emphasize enough that spelling and grammar are so important.
Good post Peter, and hope to see you post another review for us some time soon.
