I am so impressed with this game! Like the movies, love the game. There is just this one thing......
In previous posts and reviews of various games we have discussed the time honored tradition of THE STRIPPING YOU OF ALL YOUR INVENTORY AND MAKING YOU START OVER WITH NOTHING!!! segment that shows up in almost every FPS.
"SPOILER"********ALERT**********
Well I'm think I'm almost to the end of the game and this has been scripted 3 times!
It has now become an huge plot point in the game. Its a commentary on how much I like the game that this hasn't sent me around the frick'in bend, 'cause I hate that cliche. LOL!!!!
Anyway, I just wondered if anyone else has feelings about this aspect of the game.
Happy New Year!!!!

I thought this was just an x-box game... is this also a PC game? Because ever since I heard of this game for x-box I wanted to play it so badly, but I don't HAVE an x-box.
I LOVE RIDDICK!
Gah! I hate that artificial 'strip you of everything then make you start collecting weapons again' device. It's been in almost every fps I've ever played since Half-Life. I pray to God that it's not in HL2, or I fear I'll throw the game through the window.

Uhh, well.... could you send Half-Life 2 to me instead? Seems such a waste, throwing it out the window. :)

...there was some more posting about this game!
I started a thread a few weeks ago about Riddick, and frankly was very surprised it didn't get more of a response:

I just figured this is the game everyone would be playing and talking about. Anyway, I just finished it, loved it, and it definitely gets my pick as dark horse GoY (well, at least honorable mention).
As for the weapon stripping, yeah that usually bothers me alot, too (unless it's like Thief where in the "stripped" mission you eventually find all your stuff), but for me, in Riddick it just made sense and fit nicely into the story.
Think about it. You're in a maximum security space prison. You figure out how to work around the system to acquire crude weapons (at first) and then more advanced ones.
Thats' a lot of fun, but in the course of the story, you get caught by the guards, and they take your "toys" away. I felt this was completely realistic in the realm of Riddick's world.
Besides, it's not like he has a huge arsenel of weapons anyway, and the ones he loses are pretty easy to find again when you pick up the story.
All I know is the game is a blast, I love that there are optional missions (makes the game seem very non-linear), and it's cool how "hidden" items prove to be quite valuable, and so encourage you to explore more to find them. There is also a lot of stealth, which I think many here will enjoy...
BTW, I don't want to give anything away, but there are a few twists throughout this game, too, including a big one near the end that I never saw coming... ;)

I was blown away by Riddick on my PC, the graphics were sharp and the game itself was excellent.....that is until it started to crash every 2 minutes in the fighting ring. I still cannot find a patch for this game. 98% of my PC games never crash....not even Doom 3 or Halflife 2.......Why? Riddick Why?

...were not with the prison fight section, but later when Riddick got in a very heavy firefight, the frame rate on my PC went berserk and there was a noticable lag. It made fighting much more of a challlege, but luckily never got me killed... :D
I've read this is an issue with the game for all but the newest vid cards, but all things considered, it was something I could live with...
Guess I should pick it up...I heard it was really short though and I was worried about that. Is there a multiplayer component to it? Any replay value....I was really not to impressed with Doom 3 after the initial wow factor. I never completed it and sold it off not regretting letting it go. It seemed behind the times to me in this age we have all seen a good looking game ...we want more a pretty setting !

This game is not as impressive as people are saying. It runs terribly and does not have any patches. Ive had this game since x-mas and havent played it since then.

I've always thought it was a mistake to criticize a game in a review for technical issues. At least when it first comes out.
Sure, the ability to play a game properly certainly affects how much you enjoy it, but to truely evaluate how "good" a game is compared to all the other games out there, you have to go on the asumption that it runs smoothly.
If it doesn't, you need to address the technical issues first, then judge or review the game simply on its gameplay merits.
As I said previously, I had no technical problems whatsoever with Riddick (exepct for slight frame rate lag during intense battles), and so I stand by all my positive comments about of it.
As you've found out, different people will have different experiences with it. And until you get your technical issues ironed out, you won't get to enjoy it the way you should...

I have to disagree. System compatibility is just as important as gameplay in terms of pc gaming. If one cant play the game the way it was meant to be played of course that mishap will affect the overall enjoyment factor of the game. My technical issues are not that bad. I just really dont like the game too much. Ill probably get back into the game eventually. I would appreciate a patch, though.

...you basically repeated some of the things I said.
"System compatibility is just as important as gameplay in terms of pc gaming...
Ah, I never said it wasn't. It's just that they're seperate issues, and IMO you can't say a game is good or bad simply because you're having trouble playing it.
That's like saying a movie is bad because the projector in the theatre keeps breaking down.
"If one cant play the game the way it was meant to be played of course that mishap will affect the overall enjoyment factor of the game..."
This is exactly what I said in my previous post. I also said it's up to the individual gamer to figure out and correct the technical issues, and only then play and judge how good the game itself is.
"My technical issues are not that bad. I just really dont like the game too much..."
Ok, fair enough. I just assumed when you said "runs terribly" you meant serious technical issues and that was the only reason you didn't like it. Of course, if you don't like the game itself, that's a valid opinion. You just didn't mention that in your earlier post.
"I would appreciate a patch, though..."
What problems were you having? I haven't read of any wide-spread technical issues or problems, so I'm not sure what a patch would address...
