A few days ago I was remembering a few of the old games I used to play. I remembered one game which was pretty good, but I don't remember the name of it anymore. It's been years since I played it last, and I was wondering if any of you knew what it was.

Anyway, the game was made some time around the early and mid 90's. It's one of those point-and-click adventure games, alot like Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle, and the Monkey Island games. I'm not totally sure, but it might be a Sierra game. The story goes on about some guy living on... I think it was a farm... with his parents. One day he goes out and he comes back to find his parents encased in crystal by some evil witch. He then goes onto his journey to find and kill the witch. He travels through different locations, and I think his method of travel involved something about magical crystals. A few of the levels included a volcano, a mountain, and a forest where weird little things lived.

I also remember that the main character had some weird purple thing as a sidekick. I think it was a cat. It could change into different things, like a yo-yo. I think.

Anyway... I've been looking around for it, but I have had no luck. Please help!

I don't know this game at all, but I would have liked to hear the pitch on this one:

"Okay, there's this guy, see, and he has this purple cat that can turn itself into a yo-yo."

LOL!

Yeah... I played weird games when I was a kid... but I swear I remember that purple cat could turn into a yo-yo!

All the games like that were kinda weird. Day of the Tentacle had... strange tentacle things... the evil ones had arms... and Grim Fandango was all about the afterlife and had some car-repairing big orange demon in it, and people died by having... flowers... sprout allover their bodies.

Just tell me none of that is as weird/weirder than purple cats that can turn into yo-yos. Just tell me.

I played both Day of the Tentacle and Grim Fandango. My favorite parts of DOT were the beauty contest and the bit with the Founding Fathers (George Washington kept losing his false teeth). My favorites part of Grim Fandango were Manny doing the beat poetry, and Carla's never-ending sob story. Really funny.

Nothing tops the Monkey Island series. NOTHING!

Adventure gaming hit it's apex with the Hok-A-Loogie contest, where you had to find the right alcoholic beverages that'd give your spit just the right consistancy to go the distance and win the tournament.

Or how about...

"So what's your name, pirate?"
"Guybrush Threepwood"
"Guybrush...Threepwood? Har Har! That's the dumbest name I've ever heard!"
"Yeah, so what's your name?"
"Mancomb Seepgood"

Or the whole scenario with Herman Toothrot and the "Unhealthy Looking Guy". The whole series is a classic (well...1-3 are anyway, I pretend the 4th doesn't exist).

I tried looking for your game on Google, Red, but I couldn't find anything. Try and drag up some more info for us to work with.

If it was an old Sierra game, try here:

http://www.vintage-sierra.com/games.html

Any of those ones ring any bells?

OMG Thank you so much for that site, Moya.

It turns out the game I've been looking for is called "Torin's Passage". It came out in 1995, and I was wrong about that weird shape-shifting animal the main guy has with him. Turns out it's a dog, not a cat. But thank you so much!

I'm going to see now how I can get it again.

That was a fun game.

That site also brought back memories of the old King's Quest games as well.

No problem. You could also try the underdogs site (http://www.the-underdogs.org/index.php) to see if there's anywhere you can buy it/download it online.
