What do you all know about them? I'd always ruled them out before as they were too expensive. But now I could get a 10,000rpm Seagate for $45, or a 15,000rpm Seagate for $140(still a little much).

Would this improve performance in games? I got to thinking about this because the load times in Half life 2 are horrible, and due to the fact that there is so much to load from the hard drive.

My opinion is they are not going to be worth the investment. New hard drives are fast and unless running a server you can get more bang from your buck with a larger 7200, 8 meg cache then a smaller faster scsi HD. How much memory do you have? I noticed an improvement when I upgraded to 1 gig of 3200 ram from 512. Slill the loading is more intrusive than it was in the original. See we still have a ways to go in hardware before we get the virtual world we want !

hmm... if u FOUND a 10,000rpm or 15,000rpm hard disk with 4-8mb of cache, i'd get one. otherwise, i agree that a 7200rpm HDD with 8mb cache would work faster actually. and pc3200 ddr ram is pretty much the new standard now. there's pc4000 and 4200 and either 4400 or 4500 out (or coming). my motherboard supports 3200 lowest, and i *think* 4000 or 4200 highest for the ram, dunno. but i saw an increase in games anywhere from 30, to 50 to even 70% in my games when i went from 512 ram to 1gig. my hdd is only a 40gig maxtor with i think either 2 or 4mb cache, dunno. i dont use up a lot of hdd space anyhow, 40 gig will last me for another year, 1.5 years maybe LOL cuz i DONT install like, 10 huge 3gig games at once like most guys do! i install 1, play and beat it, and uninstall - install the next :P
