When I first heard of this one I dismissed it as another linear MOH clone but I've been hearing great things about the demo, I haven't downloaded it as I dont have broadband. From what I've heard it's the game MOH should have been (I, like many found most of MOH a dissapointment) still linear and scripted but with much more of a squad feel and more realistic, you have the ability to go prone and it also uses the "iron sights" targeting method which you normally associate with tactical shooters or more recently with Vietcong. I'm pretty desperate for a WWII fix so I'm adding it to my list for this year. :D

Yeah, 56k modem = about a 3-4hr dowload time for most demos.
I plead "cheap"..cant justify spending $50 month for DSL.

MOH was a turning point for me in FPS genre. It was @ this point shooters started to bore me. I think if MOH was relesed, say about the time HL was, it would have been a roaring success. Come to think of it, I bet I didnt play MOH half way through!

COD.com [fishy acronym] looks good, & game does have similarities w/'Cong, reasons for being optimistic :)

I'd consider myself fortunate and say that I do have broadband and downloaded the demo for CoD to give it a shot. It looks an awfuly like MoH but is a lot more frantic and furious. Personally, I pretty much enjoyed MoH as it was the best WW2 shooter I'd come across. Call of Duty looks really promising, and if they can keep the ferocity of the demo consistenly through the whole game it'd be really worth it.

I'm one of those who thinks that every shooter would benefit from being of the tactical type ie: realistic, but of course it's not to be. WWII is also one of my favourite periods for games which is surprising as I thought MOH, and even more so RTCW were not up to scratch I still count H+D as one of the best attempts but it's four years old now. I think it's slight progress when FPS borrow ideas from Tactical shooters like Vietcong with going prone/crawling and iron sights which I'm glad have also filtered through to COD, at least it "feels" better even though little or no tactics are needed. I dont think theres any harm in getting one or two shot kills into FPS either, those parts of MOH just kill me when a squad mate is next to you taking about 6 head shots, helmet flies off, more head shots and the guys still standing..."Hans ze Amerikans zey are invincible ja?"
"ach ja Fritz, mein bullets are usless against zem, zey are ze true master race" :D

It's cuz 99% of all North Americans have at least a little bit of Indian in em. Though we all think we're white, we've got enough Cherokee/Mohawk/Innuit (for you Canadians)/Navajo in us so that we kick alot of ass and look good doing it.

Anyway, I was really impressed with CoD. Judging from the demo it'll probably be fairly linear, but the intensity and excellent scenarios will make for an excellent game. It's less about being a tried and true WWII tactical game than it is about try to portray as realistic a battlefield experience as it can.

The beginning of the demo, where you're having to walk across a field while being bombarded with mortars and German machinegun nests spraying supressing fire, will impress anybody. And it only gets better from there. Intensity only begins to describe it.

Yeah, you kept asking in ICQ but I always thought it was too weird a question to answer. So here, I finally told you..even if it was in an indirect way. Could you please stop asking me all these creepy questions now? :(

With the exception of Hidden & Dangerous 2, I'm not really looking forward to any historical/tactical shooter. I think that genre's been overdone. I was entertained by Medal of Honor but it wasn't a great leap forward.

I think there really needs to be more RPG/FPS hybrids, and I don't mean the half-assed kind that have a vague skills improvement system. For example, NOLF 2; a great game in its own right, but even though it has a simple skills improvement system, it's a shooter through and through. The upcoming XIII looks somewhat promising, but if it turns out to be just a straightforward shooter then I won't be so eager to get it.

I would like more of Deus Ex and System Shock 2 (especially the former); games with rich storylines, varied objectives, and complex character creation & development. That's why I'm VERY much looking foward to Deus Ex 2.

I tend to agree, but the simple fact that Deus Ex 2 is being designed for the XBox first and foremost may leave us who want more, looking elsewhere for our FPS thrills. I'm not gonna hold my breathe concerning DE 2... I generally get good or bad feelings about games, and this I'm rather ambivilent about... we'll see though.

Yes, yes, the "hybrid" crossover games are what provide most gaming fun for me. [remember the debates about DE.."is it a shooter or RPG?"]

Shock2 is what, 4 or 5 years old now? I reinstalled it last week, added Rebirth mod, & play @ max dif. I found myself up way tooo late last night playing Shock2, as if it were something new, fun again.
