I won a Christmas party prize... an XBOX. I'm a 42 year old guy who hates learning curves. This was the holiday bundle so it came with 2 games.
I like RPGs , preferably turn based, strategy, and sports games.
I think Madden and some tennis game came with it.... where do I start?

Well, then you will want to start with the first Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Very good turn-based RPG

Morrowind (or the newer version that contains the expansion pack as weoo) is the best RPG on Xbox ... but is not turn based

Hmmm. I'm curious as to what you think of Top Spin then. I thought that game had quite a learning curve.
I ask because I'm trying to gauge your patience level. If it's short, then I probably wouldn't even recommend Halo to you - even though it's the XBox's greatest game (and my personal all-time favorite) ;) ...because it too has a learning curve (...of about 45 minutes to an hour).
I see that you also do some PC gaming. I don't know how hi-tech your rig is, but I'll assume that you've already considered Knights of the Old Republic, Indiana Jones & the Emperors Tomb, Armed and Dangerous, and Full Spectrum Warrior for your PC (though I have to say that I think that all but (maybe) FSW are best suited for the console).
Still, I'll also just stick to recommending XBox games that you absolutely cannot get on your PC. Not only do I think that you'd like all of the following games, but they're all also easy to pick-up and play - or they have a very smart tutorial-like beggining - and they're easy to control:
* Crimson Skies
* Project Gotham Racing (1 or 2)
* Gladius
* Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy
* NHL Hitz 20-02
All of those games are $20, or less, too!
(Though you'll most likely have to settle for a used copy of Hitz.)

Oh, yeah, I am first and foremost a PC gamer. And now I own a PS2, a GC, and an XBOX... but I am not a hardcore gamer, though I actually owned the original PONG!
I couldn't get KOTR to run on my PC, though I have a 2.8 P4, with a 9700 Pro, 512 MB.
My idea of a learning curve is 15 minutes to a half hour.
I screwed around w/o reading directions with top spin, I like it, but got my butt kicked on easy level.
My all time favorites:
Civ 2 for PC
NBA Street for PS2
SSX for PS2
Animal Crossing for GC
Neverwinter NIghts for PC
and almost any retro arcade game, any format
I hate RTS, and just bought HL2 for PC, my first ever FPS.... about 5 minutes played so far. And my wife gave me Battlefield 1942 GOTY, for PC which I have yet to install.

For a great sports game, try NCAA Football 2005. Dynasty mode is wonderful.
