It better have some damn massive improvments considering the time between the PS2 and PC/Xbox releases.

The xbox version will have CJ's gang color be green. Wait minute, CJ's gang color is already green. Guess you guys are just getting a straight port.

"been there, done that", blah blah blah, you're green with envy.

Now, only a matter of time before MGS3 shows up on the big nasty green box as well.

Hey, I've got an xbox, what do I care if it comes over? Meanwhile, think I'll pop in CJ and the gang. Too bad you can't do that, eh, tappy. Arf, arf, arf!!

Regardless of the improvements, I'm glad I picked up GTA SA on PS2. There's no way I could wait 6 months for what I consider the #2 best game of 2004
(Ninja Gaiden is my#1).

How bizarre. . . a thread actually bragging about getting sloppy-seconds.

I'm too spoiled with great graphics from the Xbox. I can't even see past the horrific PS2 tube legs and cheezy overused lens flare to get to the game play. Is it fun or just more of the same. I tried the Vice City pack but it was just too damn ugly to continue. It will just be a crappy port with higher res, big deal. I guess I'll have to go back to Halo 2 on LIVE...pity me.

It is a big deal. Sony once held the position of getting all of the best 3rd party titles not only 1st, but most often than not as exclusives. That has all changed over the last year or so.

Nobody thought that the Grand Theft Auto games would come to the Xbox but they did. EA started releasing their games simultaneously on the Xbox and PS2 after years of dragging their feat. Now, they have added support for Xbox Live to all of their titles.

Great PS2 games like the Fatal Frame series, Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, GTA games and more have made their way to the Xbox. From that point of view, this is a very important announcement, especially given that it comes before the end of the holidays. You would think that Sony would have wanted to keep this quiet until the new year.

And BTW for all those interested....ABC World News the other day announced that Grand Theft Auto San Andreas has sold around 3.2 million copies worldwide. That puts it far, far behind Halo 2 and it's 5 million + worldwide as of the end of November.

this thread is sad in itself. GTA's graphics have never been all that great regardless of the system your playing it on. To get all happy and in a frenzy for game coming out in 6 months, when its already been out for 2 months on another console is just sad. You don't see PS2 fans jumping up and down when news of Splinter Cell was said to hit the PS2. Chances are if you've wanted the game you've already played it. Tippy, your just blind with fanboyism so you wouldn't know a good game on the PS2 if it bit you in the ass.

blah blah blah

Y'all are so jealous!

Quit acting dumb. Sure, most of knew that this was going to happen, but this is mostly for those doubters or those living denial.

The GTA's are HUGE games and you know it. San Andreas is already a multi-million copy seller for the PS2, and it's GOTY candidate.

It's guaranteed to sell a million+ copies for the XBox (and probably for the PC too) and like the Double Pack before it, it'll move XBoxes. Yep, that's right, the GTA's are system sellers. And for those who still haven't bought a vg console and are still on the fence about which one to buy, this is one more positive notch for the XBox side - and one more notch subtracted from the PS2 side.

PapaSmurf

I don't see this positive notch for the XBOX, at least till june. So if someone who doesn't own a console (which I kinda find hard to believe by now) wants to play GTA now, they buy a PS2, yea I suppose that would move systems. I'm not jealous at all, in fact i've had quite a bit of fun play Steel Battalion and Halo 2 coop at my friends house for the past couple of weeks. Also your right, we all knew this was coming, so I don't see any shock here except for that Tippy was off by about 3 months, and he'll just have to wait that much longer for a game the lot of us have already beat.

You 'find it hard to believe that people don't own a vg console by now'?

Me too.

But how do you explain...
November 2004 NPD Hardware Sales
XB: 708,000
P2: 694,000
GC: 350,000

October 2004 NPD Hardware Sales
P2: 289,000
XB: 217,000
GC: 110,000

Good question. Probably people buying secondary systems, I really don't know, but its been a long time since I've been to a house that didn't contain either a PS2, XBOX, or GC, and the ones I've been to without are those old people who aren't likely to buy a videogame console.

I know alot of people-particularly at work-who ask me what system I would recommend that they buy for their family. They are still gaming on old PSOne's, N64's, etc. Now the people I know in more populated areas such as St. Louis typically own at least one of these systems.

You have to remember-many, many people don't want to spend $300 or even $200 on a videogame system. They wait for the price to drop, games to be bundled-in, etc. Hell, I know people who still haven't gotten a DVD player and those suckers can be had for cheaper than a VCR these days!

There is still a slow rate of adoption among many for not only videogames, but other technologies as well. If everyone moved ahead like we take for granted that they have, stores wouldn't still be selling VCR tapes and music casettes. What about floppy disks? And moving right along, I think that this may be one of Sony's biggest stumbling blocks along the way. Their move to use Blu-Ray discs and trying to advance past the DVD stage is going to backfire on them big time. DVD has just now become the dominant and prefered form of movies, games, etc. How long did it take? DVD's started coming out back in 1997 I believe. And VCR tapes were still "all the rage" until last year.

And in a world (gaming at least) where the Grand Theft Auto's and Halo's have taken the place of the Mario's and the Crash Bandicoot's....Sony might find themselves on the downside next go-around.

Not jealous, its just seemed like a corny thing to brag about. Anyway, the only thing I'm jealous of is that its coming out so FAST to xbox this time. I played Vice City on PC, which came out not long after the Ps2 version, but the Xbox took forever. I didn't want to play on PC again; I was going to wait for the Xbox version of San Andreas for 1.) Better Graphics 2.) I wanted to make the most depraved gangsta rap radio station wit the custom soundtrack option.

The ONLY reason I bought the Ps2 version is I was in best buy and they had a special going on that if you bought San Andreas you could get any Greatest Hits title for five bucks. I was already jonesing to play San Andreas after reading about all the features, and that was all it took to push me into impulse buying mode. I don't exactly regret it, but the game will be better on xbox, and like AoE, I expect Rockstar to jump ship next gen and ally with MS. They might be getting a little stale by then, but it would be an even bigger steal than all the Resident Evil games moving to the GC this gen.

First off, I don't own any GTA games, and won't buy this one. So, personally, I could careless. But objectively, this is big news, even though everyone expected it. If it wasn't important, then XBOX selling half a million copies of GTA Vice City wouldn't have happened. I mean, this is going to be another platinum selling XBOX game, another AAA game from another platform. Basically, the XBOX gets the best from the PC, the PS2, now if only Nintendo would give up Metroid or Zelda, lol.

I think this also shows how the PS2 is artificially being helped along as it ages. I mean if Rockstar released the game before(because they could make it quicker on XBOX) or at the same time as the PS2, the PS2 would be seriously hurt.

And waiting is just a non-issue. Nobody cried on PS2 when they had to wait for Viewtiful Joe2, I mean that was a good thing. Somehow, double standards and double expectations are still the norm around here. XBOX always has to do more and prove more. I mean waiting patiently for Doom3, with only a coop online mode is something i've been doing. And I feel no itch to play Halflife2, which I can't believe. I guess I can wait patiently because I have too many great XBOX games at my disposal, heck, I still haven't purchased KOTOR2 yet, and MechAssault2 is right around the corner. Imagine that, a Mech game and an RPG, but the only thing the XBOX does is racers and FPS,

I kinda anticipated this coming to XBox. A good thing for me, since I can scratch another game off my list of "reasons why I shoulda kept my PS2." The graphics will surely get a needed boost from the crap that is the PS2 version. I hate to sound like a graphics-whore, but the GTA series wasn't all that great looking to begin with, and it's certainly not aging well. On top of that, the new one doesn't have the luxury of Vice City's 80's design scheme to make up for how ancient the engine seems. With luck it'll be a bit cheaper too. I didn't see much reason to keep Vice City after I beat it, but I think a graphically-enhanced SA has enough to make it worth buying at say...$20 or so.

Well it was the only game this year on PS2 that I gave a crap about, and now it is coming to Xbox. Having the GTA games on your console is a big deal, and it does not even really matter when they come out.
