"AN ERROR HAS OCCURED-REBOOT YOUR XBOX"
Not something you want to see when you are trying to connect to a friend's game on Live. I post this so that you know that you are not alone. But don't let the SARS patients or Nintendo Brownie Hounds see this ... we must always maintain the illusion that Xbox Live is completely free of flaws.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are the facts as we know it:
- Game: Ghost Recon 2 for the Xbox
- The Bug: Sometimes when trying to connect to a game or when in the middle of a game, you get the "AN ERROR HAS OCCURED-REBOOT YOUR XBOX" message. If this occurs, you must reboot your Xbox.
- It is NOT a hardware problem. How do we know? Because this error is occuring randomly, and is being frequently reported by people: 1) who have both old and brand new Xboxes, 2) who have ANY of the disc drives (thompson, phillips, etc) 3) who are NOT experiencing ANY problems with ANY other Live games.
- It is NOT a connection problem, because it is being reported by people who are connecting fine to other games.
- It ONLY occurs when playing on Live. This bug is not reported when in single player.
- This error seems to occur in spurts. I.e. when you see it and then reboot, you are likely to see it again when you try to connect again.
- The error is being reported in any of the online modes (coop, teamplay, etc).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do not:
- Think there is anything wrong with your console.
- Boil your game disc or try to take it back for an exchange. If the disc was the error, then why is this error occuring randomly? It is occuring for practically everyone, and you will almost assuredly get the same error message if you get a replacement disc.
- Think it is your connection. It is occuring to everyone, regardless of the size of the room (number of players). You are not having modem problems.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do:
- Check in at the Ubisoft forums periodically for newer information. Perhaps a patch (we're all praying for one), a workaround, or at least an explanation. http://forums.ubi.com/eve
- Try connecting to another host or another game type in optimatch.
- Try again later. The problems seems to crop up and then go away in time.
