There is a very interesting interview with Warren Spector (the director of Deus Ex 2) on IGN's PS2 site (http://ps2.ign.com/articles/437/437660p1.html). Spector had the following to say about the game Ico on PS2:
"I think there's always room for more innovation and new things. On the small scale, Ico, I think, actually delivered a small new thing: holding a character's hand and really feeling like your job is to rescue this person, and establishing a personal connection. That was new. That was genuinely new. No one had ever done it. So on a scale, there's that kind of new thing."
And...
"The best game I played a couple of years ago was Ico. Ico is one of my 10 favorite games of all time. And it's completely linear, totally puzzle-driven, absolutely scripted in every conceivable way, and absolutely fantastic. So there's room for everything. I don't particularly make games like that, but I'll play them when they're that good."
So for all the fancy Xbox and GameCube hardware, the PS2 still has games of this caliber. Play the games folks, not the systems.

Half Life 2 is going to the PS2 and the GC??? they better keep the Xbox verision like totally separate from the other three, like there should be a huge difference between the graphics between the Xbox and the PS2/GC, and not that much difference between Xbox and PC, like they said in OXM, if there isn't then pretty much, for this game specifically, the other platforms will be dragging Xbox down, which will altimately will make not want to play this game at all.

Not to be a complete anal nitpicker (theres enough of em around here), but Warren Specter made Deus Ex 2 and Thief III.

You are quite right! I meant to write "Comments by Deus Ex 2 director on PS2 and Ico", but had Half-Life 2 on my mind. Sorry about that! Spector was also involvved in the original Deus Ex 1 project.

Uh... you missed the key point of my post which was "there are great games on all systems - play for the games not for the system", but I guess that's okay.

eh...it's an old game you know...I don't understand how so many people bring up ICO and DMC like they are so incredible I didn't really see the point in either one. And despite what all the critics think about Sierra and Valve, they don't hold a candle to ID(the creator).

That's ok, I don't see the point in Halo either.

Specter is right. The whole emotional pull involving Yorda was truly something new in gaming and remains a unique gaming experience. It's really too bad many people thumb their noses at it because Ico didn't have an uzi for a weapon.

ICO is one of the best games ever made. I never thought an end-boss would compete with the thrill of fighting Sephiroth, but ICO's ending might have actually surpassed it. Spector is only commenting on the innovation of holding hands...the innovative yet completely cool fight at the end of ICO is something I'll never forget.
