"September 09, 2003 - Yesterday IGN reported that in its most recent quarterly earnings, Rockstar said Max Payne 2: The Return of Max Payne would officially appear on Xbox and PlayStation 2. The loose date on the consoles was slated for first quarter 2004.
However, today Rockstar officials confirmed with IGN That Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne will hit retail shelves earlier, December 3, 2003 to be exact. That's right. If you don't have a PC, you're in luck -- December 3, 2003.
Expect IGNXbox to have full details of the PS2 version as soon as humanly possible.

Finally, the sequal to the best gunplay game there is, is coming out BEFORE the holidays! JOY! This will help even more to tide me over until Halo 2!

Yeah this one should be one helluva ride. I have high hopes. Very. High. Hopes.
Yeah, but where's the kung-fu mod? Kung-fu+guns = WIN! (Well, actually it equals Equilibrium, but the less said about that the better.)

Hey, Equilibrium was a great movie!! Low-budget of course, but it was a pleasant surprise. A whole lot better than the majority of big-budget CGI action movies put out lately (ie Tomb Raider 2).

Uh oh... Better crack a new forum open for the two of you... You guys can talk movies now with each other! You know what's even more coincidental? The two of you BOTH threatened to take my name and hold it hostage so I couldn't log on as who I wanted to be known as... Hmmm, peas of a pod I suppose. :p :)

Heh, I forgot about that. Hey if you want the rights to that name I "held hostage" (that's a little melodramatic), let me know. I think I can still remember the password. :)

Well, it was fun, but very dumb fun I thought. And it was also utterly humourless and devoid of any spark of imagination or originality. But apart from that... the gunfights were cool! The fact that it was low budget didn't bother me, I thought they did it really well for the budget they had. And I suppose it was a little more thought-provoking than some of the other big budget CGI workhorses like Tomb Raider et al (not seen 2 yet - don't have high hopes). It's just that it's all been done before (THX, Farenheit, Blade Runner, Matrix, 1984 etc. etc. etc.).

Heh, that hallway gunfight at the end of Equilibrium was the most blatant Matrix rip-off I'd ever seen. But it was still fun.
I've never seen the rest of those movies you mentioned except for Blade Runner, and I didn't see any similarities between it and Equilibrium (for starters, Blade Runner was a horrible movie).
I haven't seen Tomb Raider 2 yet either, and I don't imagine I will, unless I can download it fairly effortlessly. The first one was awful and the second just bombed at the box office. Plus if you only want to see the movie to watch Angelina Jolie (let's face it, those types of movies do rely on the babe factor quite a bit), you'd be in for a let-down. Jolie looks really ill, like she has an eating disorder. She looks disgusting in the movie trailers. Not attractive at ALL.

Gakk! Say it ain't so! Looks like our opinions on films differ quite significantly! ;)
By the way, THX 1138 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066434/combined) was George Lucas' first film about an oppressive society which has outlawed love and sex and uses drugs to control the populace.
Farenheit 451 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060390/combined) (named after the temperature at which paper combusts), based on a Ray Bradbury book of the same name, is set in an oppressive future society where books are outlawed and is about one government-sanctioned book-burner's struggle against the system. I believe it's being remade.
Nineteen Eighty-Four (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087803/combined), based on the novel by George Orwell, is set in a totalitarian future society which controls the populace via manipulation of the media. People are watched all the time by the sinister "Big Brother". One man tries to rebel by falling in love... etc.
They're all pretty interesting films which I'd recommend if you liked Equilibrium. Of course, none of them feature mad kungfu skillz gun-kata gunfights, but they all address the sorts of issues Equilibrium played around with.
Yes, the Cold War era of films and t.v. was full of stories about future oppressive societites. Just look at how many Twilight Zones episodes there were about some Nazi-like future society. These kind of stories have fallen out of style since the Berlin Wall fell, but people still enjoy them - feeds their anxieties. Me, I'd rather run around the jungle in Vietcong yelling, 'Die Commies'! ;)

He's not talking about the game, folks. He really does this in his spare time, cept the "jungle" is really his neighbors backyard patio. Course I'm not one to diss a guy's hobbies...but gee damn.
Like my granddad said to me a couple days back: "You know, Matt, I used to think that I'd never be good enough to shoot down a german plane. Yesterday I proved myself wrong."...we're looking into nursing homes.

For any of you guys who are interested, the trailer for Max Payne 2 has been released. You can get it from www.3dgamers.com, among other sites. From the looks of it, there hasn't been much of a graphical improvement, except for character faces. The trailer also has a haunting remake of the Max Payne theme music playing. A definite plus in my books. Well, that's my 2 cents.
