ati radeon 7000/ directx9 ddhelp error

i run an ati radeon 7000 vid card on an HP w/ windows ME. i have directx9 installed. I play Rogue Spear alot and just recently my game started crashing and i get the error ddhelp has caused an error in unknown and i have to reboot to get game to work again..... im also getting intermitent "strobe light flashes" in game.......my vid cards drivers are all updated.......idk what the prob is.......any ideas feel free to email me thanx

Rollback your drivers a version or two. Not all latest versions of drivers are good for all games.

Rogue Spear is notoriously temperamental when it comes to video card drivers. I once got a flashing menu screen where non of the buttons worked, and I had to go back to previous drivers.

i went to ati's site and downloaded the 3rd most recent driver........and removed current drivers and installed .......still gettin the flashes.........they seem to stop btw when i press "print screen" button.......someone suggested to me that my refresh rate may not be set right .........any thoughts?

Windows ME!!? Aaargh!!

Sorry, but I've had problems with that OS and I dont see a reason for me going back to it again. Win2k or XP Pro (or any Unix based OS) would be an ideal OS in my mind.

i previously was using a 128 mad dog card but it wouldnt play any newer games.......i never had a prob w/ rogue spear b4 ........but w/ this name brand allbeit low end vid card...im gettin probs.......i play counter strike w/ this new card and it plays flawlessly and ive never had a prob w/ windows ME b4 either

Which issue of RS AKU? One of the first?

ok ........i used a eradicator program to remove all of directx9.0 installed directx8.0 still getttin flashes in Rogue Spear and consistent crashes in game getting ddhelp has caused an error in <unknown> error.........wtf im gonna prolly just put back in card i had b4 but then i wont be able to play newer games......plzzzzzz help if u can......when i do a directx diagnosis thru start/run....it says some files are missing or corrupted......but i reinstalled several times.......WTF

Your radeon is a DX7 card, however it should be fully compatable with DX9 so I can't see that being a problem, and windows M.E isn't the best of operating systems to use......lol

Definately use eradicator and stick DX 8.1 on since that seems to be the most compatible version so far, try that and if that doesn't work then roll it back to DX7, its a pain but you do have an old card. If you have the spare cash maybe its worth picking up a newer card?
