Now at EB GAMES they have a sign stating that you can trade in your broken PS2 and get a refurbished PS2 for $99.99. Now, to me this would see very bad for Sony's reputation. There must be alot of broken systems out there for EB GAMES to put a sign at the register like this.

I would think Sony would learn their lesson after the original Playstation. Ever walk into a friends house and see their Playstation up side down? Yea, that was how it worked back then after the system started to go on you. Now this...

Nintendo seemed to learn their lesson after all the defective NES machines. It really is ashame that the number 1 selling console has such a bad track record already. Hopefully they will do something good with PS3.

Yes, I think that the PS2 has problems that Sony doesn't want to address. My first system crapped out on me and I know a dozen people who have also had problems. But I think the number of broken system seems so high because there are so many PS2's being sold. PS2 has sold over 54 million systems now compared to around 11 million for Xbox and Gamecube.

But I must say, Gamecube is a trooper. Never once have I seen a demo unit broke down and everyone I know with a Gamecube says that it has performed flawlessly for them.

Yea, I havn't ever heard about a broken Gamecube ever. Nintendo has been pumping out quality ever since the NES, well system wise. XBOX hasn't had too many problems that I know of, I guess a couple at launch but now it's been fine.

MoNkEy MaN X,

I have been very unhappy with the reliability of my PS2. Since owning the system, I've had to repair it four times because of disk read errors. Now let me put this into perspective. My PS2 is about two years old. The system gets babied beyond belief and sits on a well-ventilated shelf about three feet above the floor. My own PS2 disks and DVDs are in immaculate condition with no scratches, dust, or other kinds of defects. For all intents and purposes, my PS2 disks are in brand new condition. When I rent disks, I always clean the disks of grease, finger prints, and dust before putting them into the PS2. To this day, my PS2 still refuses to play a large number of DVDs - the system is completely unreliable when used as a DVD player. PS1 disks play most of the time, but over time, my system refuses to play them which is what tells me that it needs fixing again. If I leave my system for long periods of time (many months), it will refuse to play PS2 disks as well. While you might be tempted to think that my PS2 is just a *bad* unit, I've got three friends who have PS2s and all have experienced the same disk read error problems that I have. In short, the reliability of the PS2 stinks.

Yea PS2 is bad. I remember bringing home Suikoden brand new when I was 15 for my B-Day. My Playstation ran all the movies in the game, but they skipped around. No scratches on the discs or anything like that. I exchanged the game but it kept doing it. I traded in my Playstation for a N64 after that. Later on I got another Playstation, which worked because of the redesigning they did on the machines. Anyway, Sony really needs to work on their quality levels or in the end it may come back and burn them.

I bought at launch, and like a month after the one year warranty was up, it stopped reading any disks. We really had played the hell out of it--the thing was used almost non-stop by someone in the house after we got Animal Crossing. Wal-Mart wouldn't take it back, so I just bought another one. But I wrote a note to Nintendo at their website, and the next day, I got phone calls from three different reps. They had me send it in, had it fixed, and back to me within the week. So I took the new one back to Wal-Mart. All I can say is, if you do have trouble with your GC, Nintendo has the best customer service I've ever encountered.

Perk up your ears because you are now about to hear of one such case.

My first GC crapped out on me within one month. I kept getting error messages asking me to consult Nintendo when playing any game. Took it back and traded it in for a new GC. This one gives me error messages every now and then but performs fairly well.

My PS2 on the other hand has never given me any problems. I guess those are the cards you're dealt.

I have confidence in Sony's products (except for the fact that they are wayyy too expensive compare to other brand)... I have bought my PS2 last January 2001... until now, my unit doesn't give me any problem at all... My GC also doesn't have any problem since I have bought it last January 2002.

Gotta agree with you about Sony. They need to loosen up their brandname nonsense. Their products compared to their rivals are way too overpriced.

You're right, it is a bad reputation for Sony.

Screw Ebgames! The CEO of sony should send some suicidal wacko muslims to crash their planes into the Ebgames' Coporation Center!!! It'd be like living September 11th again!!! Ahahahahahahahaha

Ok, maybe I went too far. I'm not a terrorist. I love NYC. But the bottom line is that Ebgames sucks

I've had a PS2 for a year and a half or so (since FFX) and it has never given me any problems. I use it as a DVD player and it's run all the DVDs I've tried perfectly (except the pianist but that had a visible scratch on it.)

My Xbox got disk read errors every now and then though. If I rebooted it and it would work fine usually though. I've never tried a DVD in it cause I didn't want to sheel out for the remote.
