View Full Version : SS2 Reloaded
Im reloading Shock2 for some retro gaming fun.
"Q": has anyone played the game exclusively as OSA [mind control] & focused on that ability througout the game? Im wondering how this path would affect the overall fun & difficulty of gameplay.
I played as Marine [which was likely most popular 1st choice for gamers], but never focused on weapons exclusively. I used a mixed bag of whatever piqued my gaming interest.
thanx

Yes, and it was my favorite way to play the game. The psionic stuff is cool, and the latter part of the game is easier (maybe too easy). Have you downloaded the SS2 Rebirth mod? I was planning on replaying the game again sometime with this mod, which fixes the only graphic deficiency in the game - the character/creature models.

Thats useful AKU. I wasnt aware of the Rebirth mod....I'll see if I can find it.
I loaded SS2 again for the first time in over three years. I applied the Rebirth mod, and hastily trained a marine character so I could get to the Von Braun and see the improvements. They are really good. On the first deck where you see that hanging corpse, I remember how fake it used to look, like a manequin. Now it looks pretty cool. The hybrids look way better, and the ghosts are much improved, too. I played for a couple of hours and zipped all the way through the med deck. Even after all this time, I instinctively remember what I have to do and where everything is. I was yelling at Shodan to shut up a couple of times ('I know, charge the battery, I know already, and I know who you really are as well!'). I'm kind of bummed about that, as it's made the game sort of boring. I probably won't play it all the way through again (I've got other games I should be playing over this, like 'Cong), but I might get sucked in and be back at the Body of the Many before I know it. It still holds up; the atmosphere is still there, and it still gets scary. Anyone who's never played this game before should pick it up over 99% of the new games out there.

You should try it on Co-op with respawning creatures. And when your buddy isn't looking sneak up behind him and just stand there! LOL It's worth the laugh trust me!!

Rebirth detailed the external arterial connection between stomach & head of Hybrids quite well.

Yep, its still a rush @ times!
Something I overlooked 1st time I played: The basketball picked up prior to training. I thought it would serve as decoy, hasnt yet. Does it serve any other use?
I ran into a strange bug this time around: an invincible pipe hybrid!
Any & all attacks produced no damage on him. His health bar showed during attack, but he would take no damage from me. Hes now one more annoyance on Med deck. I love it, weak & challenged, getting nowhere fast, I love it!
The hardest combo is OSA/Impossible, newbies avoid this set up.
I'll have to start over so I can get the basketball. Where do you pick it up again? Yes, it is used for one thing, which I've never done. There's a basketball court on the rec deck later in the game. You make a basket , and get an Easter egg.
