<i>"The trouble is that computer and video-game critics have never paid enough attention to gamers themselves"</i>
This is what I've been saying again and again for the past 11 years.

I SWEAR! If one more guy comes on these boards *****in' about this **** I'll rip 'em a new one... I'm SO sick and tired of this crap... I gotta find my gun... where the **** is my ****in' gun!?
Seriously though, I believe video games (certain ones) propagate violence, as do movies, and does the nightly action news. The recent rash of violence and madness in our culture can be put squarely on the shoulders of movies first and fore-most, and in the near future video games. The 20 somethings that are now causing alot of violent problems, and don't hesistate to do so (and who were raised on movies like Rambo, Terminator, and Die Hard by irresponsible parents), will pale in comparison to the upcoming generation of irresponsible parents who feel that it's okay to play Ghost Recon, GTA III, and Soldier of Fortune on their PC's and consoles in front of them, and who in turn feel it is okay for them to play them as well.
If you feel that if you sustain from playing these games in front of, or buying them for your kids will help (it will some), be warned that there's LOADS of irresponsible parents out there that WILL buy them for their kids, and in turn, your kids will get exposed to this violence eventually; or, the games that aren't supposed to be sold to minors ARE sold by equally adolecent retail clerks at your local EB to your kids. These games should be regulated as porn if you ask me. It will get worse, trust me... brace yourselves, or as Flash Gordon said "STRAP YOURSELVES IN!!".
PS- I'll never, ever forget the first time I saw the original cut of Blade Runner- the part where Batty pushes in Tyrells eyes... I thought I was going to puke, and it was the first "fictional" graphic violenece I saw at age 12. The next violent actions I saw were on Ripley's Believe It or Not, with people plummeting to their deaths jumping from a sky-scraper... I KNOW these images had an impact on me... imagine what impact a baby seeing their daddy shooting someone point blank in the face has...
Then again, I am a firm believer that the North American Governments want it this way... and what better way to train armies, and create strife in the general citizenry to keep the populations in check?
