wow, you think?
Not only will the framerate go way up for Xbox but the detail is already up. 50$ for both games? Consider me in!

$50 for both games is a really good deal. It is a GREAT deal for someone who hasn't played them yet.

Here's where I throw your own words back in your face Tappy:
People who post still pics don't get it....you CANT judge current tech games by some crap like that.
This was of course from the Soul Calibur vs. Soul Calibur 2 thread.

ok, SLade, name 1, yes ONE PC to console port that is on both Xbox and PS2 where the PS2 version is even close to the Xbox version. Can't do it can you? Look at Max Payne for the ultimate proof.

And what exactly does that have to do with still screens not being able to tell us how good a game will look?

pfff...
XBox owners must be lowering their standards. I remember all those arguments about how much sweeter GTA would be on the 'Box, since it could take advantage of the HD, internet, graphics etc....
Now they get a straight port with some barely-noticeable graphic upgrades and they're rolling around in stiches..."sigh" at least the price is right....

"barely noticeable"?! Are you blind sir? THe PS2 never did do the series justice.

Okay. Here is a reply from a PS2 owner.
Sorry to disappoint PS2 fans out there, but I own both GTA3 and GTA Vice City on the PS2 and do you know what I have to say about them? Both games are some of the worst looking games on the PS2. (Translating that into System Wars speak: both games look like total a$$ on the PS2.) I was really jealous when I saw how much getter the GTA games looked on PC. Now that the games are coming to Xbox (and at a two for one price), I can tell you that I'm excited. There is no question that I will trade in my PS2 versions if the Xbox versions live up to the PC games (which many Xbox games do).

The biggest problem with the series has never been he graphics. Sure, the framerate isn't great on the PS2, but the framerate never caused any problems for me.
What brings this game down (especially Vice City), is the stupid tactics displayed by the AI, particularly the Police. Enemy and police just spawn from nowhere. Thus, there is no real strategy to outrunning them because if you temporarily lose them, new ones will simply spawn around the next block. Likewise, the dissapearing cars is another major issue. I understand this was necessary because of the PS2's limited memory, but now they have a chance to fix it.
Now that the series has come to the Xbox, a console with more memory and the ability to cache info to a HD ... here is the opportunity for the series to evolve. How about having a fixed number of police at any given moment, instead of this spawn crap? This would be more realistic, more fair, and overall better. You could create a distraction at one end of the street, create a temporary road block with some trucks you just stole, commit your crime, and then escape while the cops are trying to get around your roadblock. And, because there would be fixed amount of cops, you'd be rewarded for your clever setup. This is just one example of how the game could improve by utilizing the Xbox's bigger memory.
The only reason I would buy this for Xbox, and I'm not even sure I would, is because Vice City is so damned buggy on the PS2 that my game locks up on me every 10 minutes and I cannot even play it. Check out the gamefaqs message boards and read about the hoards of gamers who've had their PS2 ruined by Vice City and the long lists of "do not save here or the game will lock up and corrupt your data". Let's face it, Vice City was not properly tested for the PS2.
But alas, Rockstar will not implement any real gameplay improvements, and won't fix their AI. And, of course, Rockstar will skip out on the one thing that would launch this series into a huge success ... they won't enable Live play. They'll brush up the graphics and framerate and hopefully fix the bugs, but that's it.
I used to be impressed with the Grand Theft Auto series ... until I saw the cheap tactics and artificially created replay value for what it really is. Once you've played some of the Xbox's great games, you'll see just how limited Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City really are. I don't blame the SARS patients for their beleifs. How can one know the truth if they've never seen it?

Darwin,
Yes... I agree with you about the cheap AI in the GTA games. Here's another thing I'd like to see Rockstar fix in the Xbox version: where's the frickin' in-game save feature? Much of the play time in the games is due to the fact that you can't save until after a mission is complete. Thus, in a multi-part mission, you may be forty-five minutes into the mission and almost ready to finish when suddenly you get gunned down. Now you have to start all over again. This is the key reason that I never finished GTA3 or GTA Vice City. Both games frustrated me the way that shawdy platform games do. (Oops. Jumped to my death. Time to start all over again.)

Yea, a lot of GTA is very unrealistic. I can't deny that. I'm hoping that True Crime will be the crime sim savior because it definately has the potential with the much larger scale, deeper shooting and fighting, and the fact that you can frisk anyone walking the streets.
If the GTA bundle is 50$ for Xbox, you can bet I'll be in...what improvements would I like that wouldn't be too tough for Rockstar to implement?
1. use of HDD for soundtracks - I doubt it will happen but they should seeing as how it's in the PC version
2. NO AUTO AIM - the PC version had a nice kb and mouse aiming system, the PS2 couldn't have manual aim(the sniper rifle is an exception, sure but look at how hard it was to make a shot due to...) because of the HORRID framerate. I want a GTA that will control like Halo or RTCW.

It's not a "leftover" if it's new to a certain console and hasn't been experienced by the owner of that console yet. I'm sure there's a good number of new PS2 owners that haven't played your so called "leftover" yet either.

As much as you want to deny that you aren't a fanboy, you've got to admit that you certainly sugarcoat situations for X-box.
I mean, when RE was remade for GC, you were all like, the series is old and tired and it doesn't matter anymore. There was no question of it appealing to other audiences then.

Yea, but that's comparing 2yr and 1yr old games to a 5+ yr old game.

Yeah, a five year old game that included a hell of a lot more stuff, from gameplay to graphics, then what these ports of GTA3 and GTAVC will include.

umm...I still don't see your point. So you upgrade a 5 yr old, linear, static camera angle PS1 game to GC and throw in some extras then you knock THE best selling game series for PS2? That's right, you're Slade the Japanese game whore, I had forgotten.

blah blah blah I hate Japan.
Look at comparative value you fool. GTA3 and VC will be nothing more then ports while the RE remake had new stuff in droves. I wouldn't expect you in your insolent patriotic foolishness to understand anyway.
Finally, I'm not knocking GTA. I was pointing out some hypocrisy when you decided to jump in and open your mouth and let more foolishness loose on this board.

In an above post it wa mentioned that there should be in game saving. I agree that that woudl be very helpful. Or even have checpoints likealo does. Because ad was said some missions are quite long. Also most of my friends used cheats for this whole game. Wich to me ruined it. If you could save more often it would remove the need to use as many cheats. And then the saving thing. That would also need much fixing. I think its good to have this come to xbox and its at a good price but to be honest unless it is fixed alot i wont buy it. I believe that it is a good fun game but was somewhat overrated.

As far as RE for GC I only talked about myself when it came to the RE games. I personally have "played" out the RE series and wouldn't buy it for any console at this point. The GTA series has garnered a lot more attention on the gamer web sites since GTA3's release on PS2. The Xbox version has been highly anticipated and desired by hundreds of thousands of Xbots for a few years now.
Sure RE was an appealing game and still is for many but the GTA "series" 3 and Vice have no match. I'll bet the PS2 double box set will sell well too.
