Granted, it's only a 300 unit difference but it's still remarkable. Or maybe not considering that PS2 is reaching maximum sell through in Japan. In any event this is all thanks to recent releases of FF Crystal Chronicles and Tales of Symphonia, methinks. Both games sold nearly 200,000 units on their first few days on the market.

Tales of Symphonia heads the chart on the first week of its release, but that isn't the big news. The big news is for the first time in what seems like forever, the Nintendo GameCube has outsold the Playstation 2 in Japan.

1. GC Tales of Symphonia -- 193,500 / 193,500
2. GBA Sword of Mana -- 153,000 / 153,000
3. PS2 World Soccer Winning Eleven 7 -- 53,400 / 900,000
4. PS2 Winning Post 6 -- 33,900 / 33,900
5. GC Square Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicle -- 20,300 / 328,600
6. GBA Pokemon Pinball Ruby & Sapphire -- 19,400 / 170,247
7. GBA Super Mario Advance 4 -- 17,200 / 334,000
8. GC Kirby's Air Ride -- 16,500 / 278,500
9. PS2 Monster Farm 4 -- 15,600 / 143,400
10. PS2 On-the-spot Powerful Professional Baseball 10 -- 14,900 / 452,100

Look at how many people over there have bought GBA and GBA SP. The Gamecube is the best peripheral available for the GBA (thanks to the GBA Player.) You're right. PS2 is reaching sell through, and people looking for a second system have an unaparrelled library to play on their TV with both the GC and GBA library combined. (Why would a PS2 owner pick up an xbox when it is paying through the nose to get year-old ports of PS2 games?)

I don't play my GBA at all anymore; and some of my most anticipated titles are for it. I can't wait to play Sword of Mana, which is #2 on your list below. And I still have yet to pick up Advanced Wars II---and a new Final Fantasy Tactics which comes out this month (it isn't just a port of the old PS2 game apparently.) Long live the GBA Player!!!

Nice to have some actual good news about the Cube - all the doom and gloom is getting tiresome. Looks like they've sold aproximately 60,000 Cubes in Japan, according to the last three weekly Japan hardware sales figures. Good, good stuff.

It's also nice to see the Xbox gaining ground in their heated rivalry with the Wonderswan Crystal. Look out PS1, the Xbox is gunning for ya'. LOL!

Hmmm. It's amazing to me to see that there are still people in Japan who DON'T own a PS2.

I'am glad that the GC gets respect in Japan.Because here only the PS2 and the Xbox truly rules. But since you guys love to hold on to what happens in Japan more than whats going on around here I'll let you GC owners have a moment of glory. You guys sure need it these days dont ya? LOL! Yep.

The difference between GC and XBox sales in the US is hardly great enough for one console to "rule" over the other.

TOS has been getting some glowing reviews in Japan...which might be the reason for GC's strong sales.

This makes the third territory where a GC game has been in the number one software spot. Windwaker debuted at number 1 in N. America and I think in Europe too. Now, we've got TOS taking the top spot in Japan.

X-box has yet to take the number one software spot in even one of these territories. I really thought it would do it with KOTOR but it didn't even come close to the number one selling PS2 title that month.
