Nothing bad with ports of old games as long as they are GREAT TO PLAY.
When Capcom years ago announced ports of Resident Evils for the Dreamcast, just how many people expressed disgust instead of praise? 20?
The GTA bundle for the Xbox is just the start of things to come for the console from Rockstar. Eventually Rockstar will develop NEW GTAs for the Xbox. Heck GTA4 may soon be released for BOTH PS2 and Xbox.
Another thing, GameCube's really kicked out when it comes to GTA and this Rockstar movement is proof of that.

Dead Or Alive Online: DOA1 straight port of Sega Saturn game. DOA2 has slightly more polished visuals. Tack on online and get milked for $50! They should only be charging $20 for this "add-on pack" which is what it is in reality.
Halo didn't make Xbox #1. Neither did Splinter Cell. DOA3 didn't cut it. Panzer Dragoon Orta couldn't pull it off. Throwing in Sega GT 2002 and JSRF didn't help make Xbox #1. None of these games are going to make Xbox #1 this holiday season. PS2 has them beat hands-down with Castlevania, Gran Turismo 3, Jak II, Ratchet & Clank Going Commando and a bazillion other games.
Hell, even Gamecube has Xbox's lineup beat with MGS Twin Snakes, F-Zero, Starfox, Mario-Kart, Resident Evil Code Veronica, Billy Hatcher, Viewtiful Joe and Rebel Strike among many others.
Xbox is a flop. The system is playing "bronze" trailing behind even Gamecube in worldwide sales. The games are mostly souless, derivative crap and Rare was a big waste of money. All the PC-ports in the world and online games catering to a whopping 8% of the Xbox owners out there isn't going to help matters. Maybe Microsoft can throw in Halo, Panzer Dragoon, Sega GT 2002, JSRF, Blinx, DOA3, Munch's Oddysee, Splinter Cell, Wolfenstein and Serious Sam and give potential buyers a real incentive!
"Hear ye, hear ye! The Microsoft bundle now includes 10 free games, an extra controller, a HDTV pack, DVD Kit and a coupon for a free issue of OXM! All for the retail price of $179.99...because Nintendo is even stomping a mudhole in our ass."

Maybe it was that comment they made about "Mario will never shoot hookers."
But then again, in a recent EGM, it was Iwata I think that also praised GTA for its innovative, open-ended gameplay.
But about I-virtuals list of butt-kicking holiday xbox line-up; dude, I don't care what you think has been confirmed for holiday release, most of that stuff won't be out until 2004. And yes, "whatever" is an appropriate response to some of the tripe on your list. And No, TRUE CRIME will not be a system seller; at least not for xbox. It's multi-system, and so if it inspires any non-system owners to pick up a console it will be at the same statistical spread they are currently buying systems; 3 to 1 PS2 over Gamecube; and then xbox. Sorry, xbox looks to have a shallow and weak holiday line-up, which is reportedly why they paid off Rockstar to get this port out pronto in time for the xmas season (which should be easy as they've already PC' coded this game.) Everybody has probably played this game already, but with nothing much else to buy for xmas on xbox, Vice City will sell some more copies--but no systems.
I'm not going to razz you too hard; I expect to see much of the best of the Gamecube line-up hit 2004 as well. My two most wanted, Pikmin and Harvest Moon got bumped. But I do think you underestimate the selling power of Mario Kart and Rogue Squadron at your peril. Multi-system True Crime will not sell any specific consoles, but Mario Kart WILL move GC units, especially if it hits $99; with every renovated classic they put out, a few more people are pushed over the edge into adding the GC to their game room. I am sensing people are more excited about Mario Kart than they were almost any other game outside of Zelda: Wind Waker.

I have to agree that out of the 3 systems right now, Xbox has the weakest line up. I Virtual's list may be what he wants, but I am sure that Top Spin and Dead Man's Hand is not going to start pushing systems out the door anytime soon. Not to mention Fable, and DOA Online isn't even coming out this year! Though I must say that Ninja Gaiden will be the one to watch this year (hopefully it won't get pushed back, I am crossing my fingers). :)
Personally I think that PS2 will once again take this Christmas season, simply because of the name recognition that many of their titles have. First off there is Final Fantasy X-2 which even though may upset many of the FF faithful (such as myself), will still sell on name alone. Then there is Socom II which has a lot of people excited. Not to mention Castlevania (which I know a lot of people are excited on, here is hoping they get it right. Also Sony has Jak II and Ratchet and Clank 2, and while some people like Tappy will not like them, if they are good, it will both will go on to be huge. And then there is the Eye Toy which has already taken Europe by storm, which I personally believe will be THE hottest item this year, if it is marketed correctly by Sony.
Next up is GameCube. Dropping to $99 is the way to go and having some cool software like Viewtiful Joe, Rebel Strike, Mario Kart DD, MGS Twin Snakes and more will make it a great second system for people to pick up. It is very dissapointing that they won't have Final Fantasy Crystal Cronocles or Harvest Moon, it will only hurt them. If Nintendo can market it right they can do very well this holiday season.
As for Microsoft they will have some gems as well, DX2, Counterstrike, and Ninja Gaiden are personal favs that will be great sellers, but like Gadfly stated there isn't a game that will really push Xboxes this year, but a system package deal (like last year) could go a long way in helping MS push through the long months until their big guns (Halo 2, Fable) come out, and lets not forget the multiplatform games that will be on all 3 systems that will just strenthen the line up. The fact that most people already have GTA III and Vice City will not help MS one bit, but will sell to those that held out for Xbox versions of the game for 2 years (but that number is very small and won't convert anyone to the system.)

The only people who claim that GameCube, err GAYCube, is "second highest" to the PS2 on hardware sales are Nintendo execs and their fans.
The truth is Xbox is 2nd to the PS2 worldwide, and to add to that their 2nd running is confirmed in America, Europe and Australia. As for Japan, GameCube is ahead of Xbox so that's it.
Despite the massive sales of franchise games like Mario Sunshine, Zelda Windwaker, Metroid Prime, etc., the GameCube's hardware sales DID NOT BOOST at all. Software were sold, true but the GameCube's hardware sales had remained the same and that is a fact.
Essentially the GameCube lacks the fundamental experience of quality gaming and multimedia entertainment. Being an owner of both PS2 and Xbox, I got the best gaming experience ever. As for the GC, it's a great thing I did not buy that machine and I no longer trust Nintendo.
Back to GTA, the bundle will sell big and even help sell more Xboxes.

"The Truth is.. . ." I thought perhaps you'd follow that up with something about "shmoking out evil doers." Don't embarrass yourself. Gamecube even outsold PS2 this month in the Japanese market, and this fall, we should all gamble on whether the xbox can maintian its slight edge in the N.American market--what with no games and all.
Hey, you've got a PS2 AND an Xbox. . . great thing you didn't buy a gamecube. If you did that, you might have something different to play, since your xbox has a PS2 library with a few PC ports thrown in for good measure. Seems redundant to me, but whatever floats your boat. . . . unless of course you don't own a PC and are posting from the public library; then maybe you have an excuse.

GTA 3 and 4 on the Xbox...I could care less. I'm perhaps the only PS2 owner who hates the GTA series. I wouldn't exchange a dump for either of those games.
Still, in this nex-gen battle, I believe Rockstar has made the most money among developers. They're playing everybody like puppets, laughing all the way to the bank. Even if they don't make much with the game on the Xbox, we know Gates payed millions to get those two games on his green machine.

So the Xbox is a flop just because you say so? Just a month ago you were singing the praises of the console now you're playing take a dump on the console.Well 78 the last time I checked the GC hasnt had much to talk about these days other than SC II.Since P.N.03 didnt fare so well and F-Zero is being labled as too hard for GC owners to even play.Other than that all this other nonsense you're talking is really based off nothing but your own paranoia. The Xbox is doing fine for itself.
You dont like it so much then sell it.Other than that dont hate on the console that can do what the other two cant do.

Anybody who wanted to play GTA3 or Vice City THAT much would have simply bought them for the PS2 ages ago. Sheesh, you guys make fun of the Cube for getting a port of an old Sonic game... yet then spew diarreah of the mouth on the same basic idea!

The truth is Xbox is 2nd to the PS2 worldwide, and to add to that their 2nd running is confirmed in America, Europe and Australia. As for Japan, GameCube is ahead of Xbox so that's it.Hmm... let's compare figures and sources and think about this for a minute.
Source stating that the Gamecube is ahead of the XBox in worldwide sales: EGM.
Source stating that the XBox is ahead of the Gamecube in worldwide sales: Some random guy on the Internet who talks about being a successful white-collar professional, yet throws around zingers like "GAYcube" as if he were 10-years old. A guy who always ignores requests for links and sources, who feels simply repeating the same made-up "facts" over and over again will make people believe them eventually. A guy with such a puzzling anti-Nintendo bias that he's actually running around talking up the N-Gage as being the death of the GBA, when even the most hardcore Nintendo haters on this board won't go near that impending flop with a ten-foot pole.
