If anyone here (like myself) went out and bought the Sonic Mega Collection the week it came out and can't get enough of that 2D classic platforming action listen up!

On June 22nd Capcom will release the Mega Man Anniversary Collection. It has Mega Man 1-10! That's right 10 games for the price of......30 bucks!

I'll be picking up this game without hesitation! They're proven classics! How can you go wrong? Of course if you already have these games on their respective consoles you need not apply. But 2 of them have never even been released in North America!

I don't think you read my first post correctly...

It's only 30 bucks!!! Surely you can cough up 30 bucks for a game of this quality.

Hey guys, I just picked up MMAC 20 minutes ago! I haven't even played it yet! I'm going to right now though!

:)

The instruction manual is in full color so that's good! I guess you won't really care what my opinions of the games are though because they're all super old!!!

:p

LOL
Simple things for simple minds, I guess.

I've heard you say this before too, you know. And I just don't get it.
You act like this is a big deal - everytime. You don't get out much, do you?

Lookie here, I just went downstairs to do some investigative reporting just for you...

Over half of the games that I've got have color instruction manuals. It breaks down like this:
23 out of 46 XBox games,
8 of 13 PS2,
and 6 of 8 GC.

(Again, what's the big deal?)

Plus - and this'll really bake your noodle - All of my Microsoft and Sony published games have color instruction manuals! Just like Nintendo.

Let me clue you in, g@mer... some publishers do color (like Namco, Tecmo, LucasArts, and SquareEnix), while others never do it (like Sega, EA, UbiSoft, Midway, and Codemasters). Funny that, huh?

With regards to MMAC...

Sorry to burst your bubble, kitties, but 'how can you go wrong?' By buying the 'Cube version, that's how. The PS2 version is better. Haw!

Another optional change made to the game is the addition of "navi mode." Essentially, this is the onscreen heads-up display from Mega Man 8, made available in every game. This interface shows you how many lives you have, what direction you need to be going in, and when danger is on the approach. Navi mode also turns on completely remixed audio tracks for Mega Mans 1-7. Interestingly enough, however, it apparently only does this for the PS2 version and not the GameCube version. Each of the tracks, though much higher in production value, manages to still sound completely faithful to the original. All told, if you're looking for something a little different, navi mode is certainly a nice change of pace. Again, if you demand purity, you can simply leave it turned off.

Now... just what the heck "anniversary" are we celebrating here, anyway?
Hmmm.... MM debuted in 1987. So that makes this the... 17th anniversary...?
Uh... when did the 17th become such a big to-do?

WOW!!! You've never played a Mega Man game?!?! Mega Man 1-6 is from the NES, part 7 from the SNES, and part 8 from the PSX. I remember part 1 the best because that's what I played when I was 7 years old! I still remember most of the levels and power-ups! So I blasted my way through the entire game yesterday without even blinking an eye! (Well ok, it took me a handful of tries to defeat Dr. Wily.)

;)

Every Mega Man game is basically set up like this:

Every boss has a stage that you can select at the beginning of the game. You can play the bosses in any order you want. After you defeat each boss you'll earn their powerup. For example if you're fighting Ice Man you'll earn the ice beam weapon when you defeat him. After you're done with all the robot bosses you go after Dr. Wily.

The first 6 are way old-school! I think the graphics have gotten even worse because I'm playing them on my 27" flat screen. Even though now it's nothing special, back in 1988 that would be considered a "big screen TV." But of course I didn't buy the game for cutting edge graphics! They look totally fine to me because it's more of a novelty game anyway.

Maybe shogun can elaborate a little more. I know that he's a big Mega Man fanatic. He probably knows a lot more than me. I haven't played any of the modern Mega Man games.

Hmm...I think you summed it up well. Oldschool MegaMan is my home turf when it comes to videogames. I've played a few of the newer onces (the rockman exe games, Rockman&Forte, MegamanZero), but they aren't the same....This collection is a must-have.

However, I do have some reservations about the GC version thus far. They swapped the A and B buttons which has proven to be REALLY frusterating. When you've played a series for so long, things become automatic...which means this control sheme leads to a lot of jumping when you want to shoot and vice versa...it's definately costing me some lives. I imagine that it's not a big deal if you haven't played a MM game before...

also the GC version lacks the remixed music...I wasn't impressed with it myself when I played MMAC, but it's still a minus.

I still can't figure out why people are complaining about frivolous things like the A and B button functions. We play games like Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes that has 2 functions for every single button on the controller and is complicated as all hell, but the 2 button Mega Man format is too complicated for the gaming public I guess. Jump, shoot?!?! Oh man, this is too much for me!

And the Gamecube version says that it has remixed music on the case. I think you just need to unlock it somehow first.

And don't forget the Gamecube version's manual is in full color while the PS2's is in black and white. And the Gamecube has behind the scenes interviews also lacking from the PS2 version. The Gamecube also has shorter load times.

I apologize if this post comes as a flame to you shogun. I don't mean to insult you because you're one of the more respectable VGR members to me. I really enjoy reading your posts, it's just that I really think this topic has been beaten to death. Hey look! It's a dead horse! Let's beat the $hit out of it!!!

So can we please stop arguing about the differences between 15 year old ports of Mega Man? As most of you know I hate when people talk about a "superior" multiplatform game, let alone games that are as ancient as these. Instead of talking about Mega Man now I've wasted this entire time getting into this hopeless system wars debate which I've been trying so hard not to. Buy MMAC for whatever platform you want! The differences are insignificant.

So, I'll attempt to change the subject. What is everyone's favorite MM game of all? I like the original Mega Man personally. I guess just because it's the one I remember most that I played when I was only 7 years old.

So many great memories of Mega Man...

The GC ver has remixed music that's unlockable...but it's unavailible in-game.

Just beat MM4...I'm starting to get used to the A&B button swap, but it is distracting. Generally, when playing a Megaman game on the NES pad, the ball of your thumb would rest on the B button and the tip would be on the A...it was a more intuitive setup since it's easier to rapid fire with the tip of your finger than the ball.

Of those in the collection, I'd have to say that 3 is prolly my favorite...good level design, music and some of my favorite bosses :D MegaMan X2 and X3 are up there in my book as well.

I think I'm going to play the series in order. Like I said before I already played through MM without any hesitation. Now I'm playing MM2! For some reason I actually remember the time stopper powerup and those floating heads that you jump on in Air Man's stage. But I really don't remember ever playing MM2 as a kid! I must have played it at a friends house or something. Hey, I guess I can't expect to remember everything from my childhood right? I just defeated Metal Man, Flash Man and Air Man! MM2 is totally sweet!

BTW, are you playing the games on "normal" difficulty with 3 lives like the original games? That's what I'm doing. I think the "easy" difficulty should only be for little kids and gaming wimps. I've also heard that some of the games feature "difficult" modes as well! Maybe I'll give those a go after I'm done with the whole series!

This game is SO MUCH FUN!!!

:D

So far I've beaten 2, 4 and 5. I'm focusing on 7 now, but I'm a good chunk of the way through most of them. And yeah...I'm doing it on the regular difficulty. I heard that even on normal, the games are harder than they used to be, as they've been brought up to the same level as their japanese counterparts. 2 especially seems harder than I remember...
