View Full Version : Ever been sensored/banished?

I gotta relate what I just experienced on another vBulletin forums board.
Its just a reminder to me how much freedom we have here in posting on videogamereview.com.

In short, I posted an avatar [farmer approaching cow from rear] that the moderator objected to. None of the members objected, just the moderator. Thats OK, I know these sites are private property, so I complied. I removed my avatar. But that wasnt enough. I asked him if he would remove his avatar [pius, secular religious icon] as I found it offensive. The moderators response was swift & intolerant "remove it or face banishment.." & to boot he sensored my debate & all its content.
In the end, hes boss, & my comical [albiet offensive to some] avatar is gone, my retort gone, & his religious avatar remians. I just felt the sting of power, the subject of sensorship!

Dont you guys just love the freedom here?
[dont get any ideas now Lara, lol]

I remember back in the day when dancing was illegal in town. Then I fell in love with the preachers rebellous daughter and played chicken with tractors and won the day. Despite the fact that I was faced with severe punishment I held my ground and said what needed to be said...and I'm a better person for it.

Oh wait..that was Footloose.

Good one RG :D

E.T. sorry to hear of your probs at another web site. I'd rather work with someone to resolve an issue rather than against them any day! I probably would have asked you to remove the avatar as well though. Sounds like it could have been offensive to some people. I also can see your point on the other side of the coin as well.

I wonder if we can get back to a post by you within six posts if we apply the Kevin Bacon principle and follow the string between different people posting on different topics. I'm sure we could do it with SBS. ;)

What's that? It's secular *and* religious?

Yes, as in Space Religions.
Secular: not sacred.
Religious: in conventional terms, monastic.

I usually think of secular as meaning 'not Ecclesiastical', hence not religious. Space religions...you lost me there. Does he worship Miriam (the religious fundamentalist from Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri). She's in space!

Man, I've been censored, banned, abused and done the same to others. Thing is, I always know when it's gonna happen, and it's entirely planned. I never lose my cool and I do it for entertainment. My best is the entire weeks thread that went disappearing at the Combat Mission website, after I had a HUGELY popular thread arguing with the developer. The guy ended up calling me the anti-christ and you name it! LOL

I dont know what to say, 'cept chalk it up to my "e" learning curve.

Yup, my av was offensive to some, humorous to others.
Yup, I complied [immediately] to moderators demand to remove av.
Yup, no longer am I welcomed there.

I admit to being a little puzzled though, regarding the over reaching, heavy handed response from moderator. With my avatar now gone, & with it any remnants of our debate, people began to scold me  ? How could they know what was said since all my replies were gone? This angry mob just gave the moderator more encouragement, & me the "axe". [I felt like Garrett in Thief]
What I do know is I stepped out of line on a close knit forum with little tolerance for those who challenge the status quo.

[Lara, I promise to be mostly on my often best behavior here] :D

I started a thread about why it was better to get AMD processors because they were cheaper and did the same thing as Intel chips. Sure I did it in an infammatory manner but the mod basically said he/she was too lazy to moderate the discussion so they locked the thread. Up yours I thought and never posted there again.

You know what? I think it's their loss. Also, who needs to associate with closed minded people like them?

On your best behavior here? I'm not worried!! Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. ;) Oh yeah, and contribute to it too!!

Meaning that you post so prolifically, you have only one degree of separation from just about any other poster, two at the most. For other posters, you have up to the full six degrees of separation (this is just a bad Kevin Bacon reference, I know). :)

That reminds me of the time that I was banned from CoA (both the servers and the board). Not only did they boot me, but the moderator ended up changing all my posts, and still allowed others to reply. Really silly if you ask me. But that's okay... I don't need to play on that server if it's run by a bunch of morons.

The second link is good. I dropped in the name Humphrey Bogart, and Kevin Bacon is only separated from him by just two degrees. Bacon is only separated by three degrees from Charlie Chaplin.

William Shatner: 2 degrees
Patrick Stewart: 2 degrees
DeForest Kelley: 2 degrees
Leonard Nimoy: 2 degrees
Marina Sirtis: 2 degrees
Jonathan Frakes: 2 degrees
Whoopi Goldberg: 2 degrees
Walter Koenig: 2 degrees
Avery Brooks: 2 degrees
Nana Visitor: 2 degrees
Scott Bakula: 2 degrees

Finally, Jolene Blalock: 3 degrees!

My gaming rig is broke right now but my backup PC works good. Hell, Dungeon Siege is the shiznit. (I picked that one up at VGR LOL) So many limbs, so much gore, I can't ask for much more.

Xbox really is wonderful and I think proves my theory that we don't even need PCs for gaming!!!!!!!

Except for the small oversight that MS is pulling a Sega even as we speak... What's that sucking noise? Oh wait, it's MS losing money down the drain supporting their hardware!!

They simply hose the consumer in other areas and the loss is made up and then some. Its not a new business model at all. Its called cheating.
