At least according to the "chick" working the counter at my local EB store. Two women were in line ahead of me and one was with her two sons. The woman with the two sons, one around twelve the other maybe 14, were trading in a bag of used game systems, (PSX, GC) some games, memory cards, and other things for an Xbox, SCII, and Halo. The other woman without the "boys" turned to the chick at the counter and asked about the Xbox. She mentioned that her son had a Game Cube. Counter Chick said "Oh, CG is for kids. The games for it are made for children." The woman then mentioned her son was only seven and he loved his "Cube." Then Counter Chick says "Seven year old's play Xbox." (I just bit my tongue)
It's a fact all Game Cube owners must live with. The "general population" equates GC and Nintendo with "children." Even many of the people working in the video game industry think and say Nintendo and their GC is kid's stuff. I know there are more mature games available, games I'd like very much and I'm older than most around here, but GC Fanboys are fighting a losing battle in the minds of most when it comes to GC's image outside these boards. The "real" world that is.

Hate to break it to you, but to the ignorant non-videogaming masses, ALL videogames are for kids. That's why there was so much outcry over games like Vice City, because it was shocking to behold sex and violence in a videogame, which are for kids - in their minds.
Nevertheless, I bet there are more kids who own a PS2 then own a Cube - as there are tons more "kiddie" games for the PS2 then the Cube.
Granted, the current trend of thought is that the Cube is for "kitties" and "nostalgic gamers" - which is fine. Believe what you want to believe, but it won't make you right.

Do you buy a console for its "image?"
If playing a GC makes me look like a little kid, should I buy an XBox so I can look like an adult?
And who are these people I'm trying to impress anyways? The ones that judge my maturity based on the game console I play....they kinda sound like losers to me....

I was reffering to the "mainstream" gamers really the ones that don't visit these boards but game on a regular basis. They and their families are the ignorant ones because they should know better but don't. Nintendo admits it develops games geared more towards the younger crowd for the most part that's their bread and butter but they and their third party developers do try and cover all the basis.
Your right Sony's consoles have more kids games but they also have a hell of a lot more consoles out there and game developers working for them than Nintendo. If you put it in the proper perspective Nintendo would have more "kiddie" games for GC % wise than Sony.
"Counter Chick" telling a woman that seven year old's play Xbox and that GC is for kids...well it's wrong on so many levels. I looked at her as being a total "DOLT!" She probably plays PC games anyway and knows no more about console gaming in general than the average mainstream gamer and she WORKS at a Video Game store.
Did you know that 17% of all Video Gamers are over 50? Amazing really and that number will keep increasing as time rolls on.

17% of all Video Gamers are over 50? Where did you come up with that figure?
Anyways, there are a lot more ignorant non-videogamers than ignorant "mainstream" videogamers. So, in essense, to the vast majority of the population, videogames are for kids, a complete waste of time and something we'll all regret having spent so much time of our youth doing, while we lay on our death beds in the future.

I read it in one of my magazine's. They broke down all gamers ages into groups. I've no reason not to believe it. My brother's 58 and he still games.
Let's just say there's a LOT of ignorance in the world in general. Video games are BIG BUSINESS now a days and they're being advertised more and more on Prime Time TV. How many times are they seen now on tv shows and in commercials for a store like Circut City or Best Buy. I was watching Drew Carey a few years ago and he had a Sega Saturn in his living room. Another show two people were playing a PS2...on another Xbox was prominently displayed on a store display while the scene played out.
I won't regret spending time with my video games...it's a part of life...just like going to work...going on vacation...taking the kids to the ballgame...the family getting together in the living room and all sharing a video game together. All part of the big picture known as life.
And my point was...

I don't necessarily think that GC is for kids. Consoles aren't labels for people. It is retarded to say GC is for kids and Xbox is for adults. So what if GC has more games aiming towards younger age group? Can I say XBox is for morons by looking at its pathetic game library?
The whole argument is pretty pointless from the beginning. Because, isn't videogame for kids to begin with?

Your brother is 58?! So that must make you...much older than I am.
Anyhoo, I can believe that people who are, umm, advanced in wisdom, so to speak, are able to enjoy playing vids, but 17% seems like a pretty steep estimate. I suppose if you include internet chess and various other internet games as "videogames" then that figure might be true.
Otherwise, yes, videogames are big business these days. According to various articles I've read, the videogame industry made more than the movie industry in 2002. Big business indeed. Unfortunately, now that videogames are, in fact, big business, we'll see more non-videogaming corporations like Nokia and Micro$oft (cough) wanting a piece of the action.

Yeah, I don't think they said the figures were strictly from the "console's" but many older gamers enjoy PC games like Thief, Warcraft, and other War and strategy games.
Personally, I've been gaming since the early eighties when I was in my mid twenties! I've had my down time away from the games off and on over the years but in general I've geen a video game fan all along. Owned a ton of consoles and still do. Playing PotC at present. I don't care what people like to play or on which console. The way I look at it is they ALL have great games to play. When I hear some "twit" say something stupid like "Counter Chick" I just have to shake my head. She's one that truely doesn't get it and she even works in the industry.
