I've been somewhat of an avid mmorpg'er for some time. I really don't mind paying 9-12 a month if it's quality. That's about what a movie costs. Now the one mmrpg that I thought had absolutely no chance for success was City of Heroes but I gotta say I'm generally surprised at what I see in the user forums.

I can tell you, if a game stinks nothing is more unforgiving then the fan base and that's why I am somewhat amazed that COH has very little criticism floating around. I thought at first site there was absolutely no way I'd ever play an mmorpg like this but after hearing from trusted friends about it I think this one can be alot of fun.

Ok, I broke down and got into the beta. It's a simplistic game but I gotta say it's a hoot.

Hey TC I'm gonna check into it when I can. I've been reading the posts over at Kay'l's place and I have to say I'm intrigued...

I've been in CoH for serveral weeks and the game is a blast. The servers have been amazingly stable and trouble free. They do go through periodic issues with a new patch etc but at other times they are 100% trouble free for an entire evening of playing.

Gameplay is generally fast and furious. And very super powered :) You really feel like a super hero when you hit a villian and he flys back 20 feet. Or you jump over a car or later fly to the top of a skyscraper. I love finding a perch on some tall building but not too high so I can watch the people on the street and when I see some villians accosting a citizen I'll jump off and save the day. After dispatching the villians the citizens are always coming back to thank me and tell me how wonderful I am.

When I'm not perching I'm talking to my contacts who ask me to do various tasks for them. Sometimes it is rescuing people, testing a new power, finding an artifact, or maybe killing some boss. These adventures will take me and my teammates into a variety of dungeon like encounters in a dedicated instanced environment. The fights are always challenging and so far the variety of layouts and locations is nice. I've found in warehouse like places, office areas, laboratorys and caves. The layouts seems pretty random and almost always involve multiple layers sometimes even requireing and elevator ride.

All in all the game is lots of fun. And best of all only 6 more days till release!
