I think Gothic 2 is only a couple weeks away or something, but if you want to play a game similar to it, to tide you over, then check out this game I got called "Mistmare".
NOW, at first, in seeing it, you might think,"Oh, a cheapy."
BUT NOT QUITE.
I'm rather pleasantly surprised at this game so far.
I'm still early into it, but as I progress, I come across more and more things that make me crack a grin.
I've cracked alot of grins so far playing this game, and have to recommend it it to RPG fans who liked Gothic.
OF COURSE, it's "not" like Gothic, but it has some of the same vibe, I thought.
The character animations are cool (gosh, nothing super, but the way they walk and move and stuff, it's not bad), the models/skins, are pretty good, rather colorful too.
It kinda reminds me of Baldur's Gate or NWN meets Gothic at times, in a Poor-Man's kinda way.
There are night/day FX, weather FX (all pretty well done, again, nothing state-of-the-art, but good, worth mentioning), you walk around cities and stuff.
Right now, I'm in Rome, in the Vatican area, and it's a pretty good size.
Surprisingly, you can go into some of the buildings.
In most games like this, you see the door, and the door is PART of the overall building.
THUS, you conclude, rightly, that you can't enter it.
It's like this with a lot of games.
However, you can actually enter the ones in this game, of course, some are "locked" and all that, but it's nice to play a game where the city isn't just a maze of 3D blocks.
Next, the cities are populated, and you see them walking around, talking, going over and sitting down on benches, and stuff like that, which remind me of Gothic or some BG/NWN game.
The art design for everything is totally awesome, it's very original, as is the story and setting, I have to say.
You can pick up armor and weapons and equip them, and you'll see your character wearing them, pretty much, well, at least so far, that is, with clothes.
I put on some hood and gauntlets and now my character is wearing them.
I like that in games.
I can't stand RPGs where you put on armor, and your character doesn't change much (Arcanum is an example of this).
How far and deep this game goes, I don't know, but there were like two discs during installation and from things I've seen, I get the impression I'm barely scracthing the surface still.
Cool.
OH, and you can talk to everyone. Of course, alot you can just about say "Hi!" too, but there are plenty around you can talk to and ask questions, almost interview-like questions, HEH, which sort of reminded by of Gothic as well.
The game has your typical "weapons and armor"/"point-and-attack"-type system, and it also has a magic-system as well.
As for the story, there is a huge amount of depth and detail.
Like the BG games, you run into people who may need help or whatever, and thus, there are sub-quests and stuff.
You can roam around, and look in crates and stuff, for items, so there is some interactivity there, but just be careful were you do that at, I stumbled into a warehouse, and snooped, and got attacked by some dudes who didn't care for that.
Combat takes some time to get used to, it's a but "unique", like Gothic's system (doesn't have the lame targeting thing, though, thankfully).
You can play the game in 1st-person, 3rd-person, and a 3rd-person/NWN-type mode, each you can move the camera around or zoom in/out, etc., pretty simple and fluid.
I WISH I could take screen shots, cuz some of the graphics look pretty nice.
There are some bugs with the game, of course, but the developers are aware of them and working on patches, which is nice, cuz all the issues that concerned me with the game, they state they are aware of it specifically, and are working on it.
GOOD, I can't stand games that have some fricken problem, and you don't hear jack.
But the game right now for me, actually is running/playing quite well.
The controls just take some time to get used to.
Well, some screenshots (about 10) archived here:

A bit rough around some edges, but not bad!
