Hey all,
ran into a problem, i have setup a network connection between 2 computers with a crossover cable. Everything is working fine with the old computer with Win98 on it, but the newer pc with XP is the one causing problems with setting up an IPX connection. I can share files with both pc's but i can't play games and as said above, the XP machine won't respond.
Any ideas ?

Do both computers have their own IP on your little 2 comp intranet? That might be why you can't connect to LAN games...since on even a basic (non-crossover) LAN every computer is assigned its own seperate IP on the inhouse network which games then use to identify a seperate connection.
This is just an educated guess, mind you. I've never once used crossover cables to play games with so I'm not exactly sure what your problem could be, it seems to be the most likely problem though....either way it might help you start looking in the right direction.

Not sure on that, don't think they have an ip address persay as i've checked all the network options and doesn't appear to be one.
Pretty sure I need to setup an IPX/SPX connection - did it on Win98 as it said to do so and it works on that machine, but i can't do it on the XP machine as the way to get into the settings is different (some have different names, mainly a different layout).
Its completely bamboozled me.

Okay...first off I found THIS (http://www.duxcw.com/dcforum/DCForumID2/1976.html), some guy that seems to have the exact same problem you're having.
And after goofing around inside my network properties I found some IPX/SPX hoogibbity that might help you get well on your way. First go to control panel/network connections and rightclick your current LAN connection (if you don't have one, then set one up), once you have your Local Area Connect Properties window up click install, go to protocols, hit add, and install the NWLink IPX/SPX/Netbios Compatible Transport Protocol (hopefully this isn't something exclusive to my NIC..I'm learning about this along with you here). After that hit up that link I sent you, follow the instructions, and see if that fixes your problem.
