Well, Nintendo is still managing to run neck & neck pretty much with Xbox in hardware sales and have sold nearly 2 million more Gamecubes in Japan than Xbox has managed to sell there.
Now, we have 2004. NIntendo is a primed machine ready for the kill. Sure, it's not going to beat the PS2, but Nintendo has some great tricks up their sleave this year.
Square-Enix has announced a new Final Fantasy title for Gamecube to be shown at E3.
Nintendo will be showing Metroid Prime 2, Mario 128, Zelda and Pikmin 2-all slated for release in 2004. Not to mention Geist which looks to put an actual new twist on the stale FPS genre.
Capcom is showing strong continued support for Gamecube this year with Resident Evil 4, Killer 7 and....wait for it....VIEWTIFUL JOE 2!!!! And let us not forget that Super Monkey Ball 3 is coming exclusively to Gamecube in 2004.
And just remember, all this time that Microsoft has been throwing money down the crapper to the tune of TWO BILLION DOLLARS in just two short years, Nintendo has continued to make money from their Gamecube hardware and a buttload of money from the GameBoy Advance hardware.
So Xbots, enjoy Halo 2 and....Halo 2. That and all your wanna-be Japanese-style RPG's like Sudeki and inferior PC ports. Keep holding out hope that Microsoft will somehow pull themselves out of the rut they are in. And keep dreaming about that backward compatibility in Xbox 2 and the loss of your HDD.
In the meantime, Gamecube owners have these great games and so much more to look forward to while PS2 owners have Onimusha 3, Final Fantasy XI, Gran Turismo 4, Metal Gear Solid 3, Resident Evil Outbreak, Killzone, Ratchet & Clank 3, Jak III, Ico 2, Kingdom Hearts 2, Neo-Contra, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.....GWAHAHAHAHA!!!!

I dunno. Nintendo looks to be running pretty strong this E3, hopefully they'll give us some nice surprises along with the along with the already-announced titles.
Either way you look at it, this E3 will be MUCH better than Nintendo's last showing. Besides Mario Kart it was fairly weakish.

About E3, I'm starting to get excited to see what this Nintendo DS is all about! The rumored features of this item keep increasing and increasing, while the rumored features of the PSP keep decreasing and decreasing. I have the feeling when it's all said and done, the DS is going to slap the PSP silly.
So far now, the DS (codename "Nitro") has been said to have the 3D capablities of the N64, free wireless gaming, instant messaging, movie playback of over 2 hours, two LCD screens - one of which is a touchpad, most likely a rechargable battery, and the support of the big Japanese developers and the interest of the N. Oh, and it will be out by the end of the year, whereas the PSP has been delayed until AT LEAST 2005.

Ps2 owns RPG's. Hard to dispute. But look at how sequel laden that list is. Sequels sell well because consumers know what they are getting.
But we are gamers, not just consumers. And as much as I enjoy bashing the xbox, Sudeki, Fable, True Fantasy, and Jade Empire really do appear to offer a whole lot more in the way of new RPG experiences than the solid but sequel heavy PS2 line-up.
Even Gamecube is finally getting a piece of the RPG action with Tales of Symphonia and Baiten Kaitos.

Try importing Venus and Braves from Japan for PS2. I still don't know why Namco won't bring that game overseas. And Front Mission Online is likely to offer something new.
And I seriously doubt Fable will be out this year. Jade Empire will probably end up being the typical Bioware RPG. It seems a sham to me that what's new for consoles is what PC's have been doing for years. Lack of numerical value doesn't mean the gameplay will be totally new and awe inspiring. And the elements that Factor 5 put into True Fantasy are all likely to find themselves in the next Dark Cloud 3. Sudeki could be something but I doubt it.
The only thing on that list really, is Fable. And that won't be out for a while.

Rather get Transformers Armarda for PS2 (ATARI). Though I saw a snippet of the intro cut scene and was quite excited.

I'm not all that knowledgeable on RPG's since I don't usually play them. Fable is the only one I've been looking at because of the grandiose claims about how revolutionary its going to be. The only thing I know about Sudeki is the screenshots look cool, but that doesn't really mean much. I didn't like KOTOR so I kinda doubt I'll like Jade Empire. But so many people loved KOTOR, and the critical acclaim was so universal that I feel uncomfortable dissing it because I'm pretty sure it was just that type of game-play just didn't appeal to my own tastes. But for those that like that type of game, Jade Empire (based on the mini-documentary on last month's demo disc) looks like a far more cool, original and beautiful title than KOTOR.
Do you really think Fable will get bumped from its June 15 release date all the way into 2005? I figured if they'd finally set a date, and a date that's so near, it must be about done, and if it got bumped again, it would at most be a month or two. Who knows.

I play a lot of RPGs myself and I thought KOTOR wasn't that great and I have no qualms about dissing it. And I've done so quite a few times. It has some serious design flaws and I'm not going to over look them because of the Star Wars in its title.
I really want to get Fable though. It looks great and the possibility of a few new game mechanics will certainly help out the genre, which can get a bit repetitive. They announced recently that they cut the multiplayer portion from the game so that could have been the delay. Apparently, they weren't able to get it up and running at their standards. If that's all out of the way, we just may see it in June.

That's all I want Nintendo to do for me this year. Give the game - sequel to quite possibly my favorite game ever - a worldwide release and I'll be more than happy.
I was gonna import it from Japan, but I heard that the game has problems saving when using Freeloader.
And methinks RARE is going to suprise the hell out of everyone at E3 this year. Ghoulies wasn't very good and the likes of Kameo & Conker's hasn't caused much excitement, but there is way too much talent in that devco for them not to come up with something special. And fingers crossed Perfect Dark actually makes an appearance before 2006...

Yeah, it's sort of the same for me. Fable is the only RPG that has caught my attention and that's mainly because of its combat engine which Molyneaux said would get its influence from DMC. That was quite a while back though.
I think that the game will suffer a delay. Because if it makes its June release, it will probably feel a bit rushed. There was a news story late last year, where they showed off the game and all it amounted to was a guy bashing a troll over the head. Just from the tone of the article, it looked like they needed to do a lot of work.

Remember what stole the show last year? Nope, wasn't a Nintendo product, but the long Halo 2 gameplay vid which is still one of the most popular gaming downloads on the Web. Imagine the possiblities for this year. There very well may be some sort of playable demo, maybe a multiplayer video or something. That, paired with Fable, the big wig PC FPS (which will assuredly look fine on XBox), Psychonauts (which looks better and much more original than any other platformer I've ever seen), SW: Battlegrounds, SW KOTOR pt 2, and TFLO to name a few. Xbox got it in the bag in my eyes

Well, there is already huge interest among the Japanese developers for the new system and it does in fact feature two games screens. Though, I don't know if it is a touch screen. But, the system does feature rechargable batteries ala the Gameboy Advance SP.
So, there is your two features. Where are you so I can pop two caps in you? j/k

Nitro/Nintendo DS To Be More Than Just A Gaming Machine?
Just a few weeks after the demonstration of the DS being capable of a 2-hour movie, CNN reports that not only could it be functional as a movie device, a wireless gaming device, but a local instant messaging device. Read further, to your surprise, thanks to CNN. Who knows what Nintendo's up to next?
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) – Nintendo's latest handheld system seems to be moving even further away from a pure gaming machine.
In an analyst report issued Tuesday, P.J. McNealy of American Technology Research said the upcoming Nintendo DS will offer Instant Messaging functionality. Rather than being offered nationally, though, the DS is more likely to offer local IM service, using free bandwidth with unlicensed RF spectrum (essentially, the same bandwidth that's used by two-way communication devices). Users would type messages on a touch screen using a stylus.
The addition of IM would be the second potential step for the DS to be a multimedia device. In an earlier note, McNealy revealed a two-hour movie has been successfully demonstrated on the machine. Nintendo has not confirmed any non-gaming functionality, however.
Additionally, the DS will feature free wireless gaming, McNealy wrote. Exactly what that might mean is unclear. It could be that the machine will simply allow players in the same room to play together without the need for a corded connection. (Indeed, a wireless adaptor for the Game Boy Advance is already being sold in Japan.) Conversely, Nintendo could allow friends in different locations to compete against each other or co-operatively, should the wireless signal be strong enough.
Nintendo declined to comment on the report, citing its policy of not addressing rumors or speculation.
As talk grows about the DS sporting additional functionality, interest in the system is increasing. Industry observers are curious whether the company will use the DS to go head to head with Sony's PSP, a handheld game device that offers additional multimedia functionality. Sony (SNE: Research, Estimates) in late February delayed the North American launch of the PSP until early 2005. Nintendo said it is still on track to release the DS this holiday season.
Though the PSP was originally seen as a threat to Nintendo's Game Boy, that talk has quieted in recent months as major publishers have suggested it will carry a price tag ranging from $199-$249 and software will run for $40. Neither Nintendo or its publishing partners have suggested a price point for the DS. McNealy has written that software will likely range from $20-$30.
Nintendo has tried hard to keep details about the DS under wraps, only acknowledging it would feature two, three-inch LCD screens and two separate processors. There has been tremendous speculation on how the machine will look.
McNealy's note, which cites "several [unnamed] industry sources," said the machine will have design characteristics similar to the popular Game Boy Advance SP.
The DS will incorporate the 'clamshell' look of the Game Boy Advance.
"The form factor will feature two three-inch screens that fold together, similar to that of the Game Boy Advance," wrote McNealy. "There will be two flipper controls, two directional pads, and an 'a' and 'b' button. The stylus will be used for gaming, Instant Messaging, and other multimedia functionalities."
The possible inclusion of wireless multiplayer gaming has long been rumored for the DS. Sony has reportedly dropped wireless functionality from the PSP, which could give Nintendo a leg up. (It's entirely possible Sony is still debating whether to include some sort of wireless gaming, however.)
Wireless technology likely will play a significant role in the next generation of consoles – with Nintendo's next generation machine due in 2006. If the DS does have wireless functionality, it's possible the device might be able to sync up with the new console, much as the GBA can link up with the GameCube today.

I don't Microsoft will give up in the console biz...the Xbox is a great machine with many of the biggest games of 2004 coming to it soon and Xbox Live is the way to go to play games online. As for Sony, I don't think the CNN news of Nintendo's DS is enough to scare them and trumple PSP.
Soon enough, Sony will counter that news report showing what PSP can do for the good and advancement of handheld gaming.

(1) The only thing Sony's PSP "can do for the good and advancement of handheld gaming" is to make a bunch of bold claims of all the PSP's wonderful features at last years E3, and then cut most of them less then a year later. Movie playback - gone. Wireless multiplayer - gone. Analog control stick - gone.

Um, I attended Sony's E3 PSP conference last year, Trebor, and as much as I hate to point this out to you, there were never any features/specs given out at the show. The projected specs/features were not revealed until fall. If you or anyone else can dig up links that prove otherwise, I'd love to see 'em. All Sony announced was that they were working on a powerful portable - nothing more, nothing less. Of course, this alone was apparently enough to send Nintendo into a panic.
On an interesting note, last year Nintendo had shown a technology where they had somehow fit 30 minutes of full video into a GBA cartridge . Even though the resolution wasn't the best, I was very impressed (and of course it was a friggin' Pokemon episode). A Nintendo rep said it was "coming sometime in the fall." And of course..it never appeared. If Nintendo had released this technology it would've not only given Sony a bloody nose but also convinced nongamers to get a GBA. But alas, no. This is just par for the course as far as Nintendo's recent business decisions are concerned.
I'll take a look at the PSP and the DS when I go this year and give you my thoughts on both. ;)

I said MORE than two features, did I not?
If it has MORE than two of the features Trebor listed you want someone to shoot you in the chest? You must have a deathwish, because that's a pretty strong statement. Maybe a paragraph is to complicated for you, so lets numerically list the features Trebor pointed out.
1.)3D capabilities of the N64.
2.) Free wireless gaming.
3.) Instant messaging.
4.) 2 hour movie playback
5.) two LCD screens
6.) one of the LCD screens is a touchpad.
7.) Rechargeable battery
8.) Support of the Japanese developers.
9.) The interest of North American developers.
We already know for absolute certain that #5, #8, and #9 are things the DS has. So there's your shot in the chest right there. Also, the tech specs have been leaked, and the DS does have the processing power of an N64, and I don't know why you'd think that's far fetched. That's pretty old technology, unlike the PSP's initial claim of being nearly as powerful as a PS2. So #`1 is about 95% likely to be true since games are already in development. It does feature RF, so some sort of wireless connectivity is there. I think all that's in question is the range. . .will it be for people to connect in the same room, or for several hundred yards. So #2 is pretty damned certain.
I think that about all that's really question is the rechargeable batteries, instant messaging and movie playback. Those are are being speculated on because based on the tech specs, it is capable of doing these things, but Nintendo has never said it will do those things, and I'm guessing it probably won't.

Keep on waiting for games, and we will keep on playing games. While you guys sit back and wait for great games to materialize, we are playing great games. And every great game Nintendo gets, MS seems to get 4 or 5 to that one. I mean, you are talking about, it is GONNA be a good 2004 for PS2 and GC. It already is a great 2004 for XBOX. And next week, its gonna be even better. While you just wait. Oh, but wait, you do have an XBOX right, one of those horrible crappy systems. You just happen to have one, you just happen to be playing Ninja Gaiden, which you could barely play cause it was too hard for you. Well, you probably want to stay away from SC2 also...its so good its crap.

I think that this E3 will indeed be great for the Gamecube. Although I'm not holding my breath for Mario 128. And I'm not sure that a Metroid Prime sequal is likely or a good idea for the Gamecube. I mean it's pretty much impossible to improve on Metroid Prime with the Gamecube hardware, right?
But Resident Evil 4 should make an impressive showing with Pikmin 2. I think a Zelda or Donkey Kong game is a possibility. Tales of Symphonia should be great. Custom Robo: Battle Revolutions should be cool if you like that kind of game.
The Gamecube will indeed impress.

How is this possible? I didn't think Gamecube games could look better than Metroid Prime.
Zelda Wind Waker 2 is great news! Nintendo just keeps the AAA titles coming huh? It is indeed a good time to be Gamecubing!

While we're on the subject of Cube sequels - can anyone tell me WTF ever happened to Pikmin 2? It sucked away an inordinate amount of my time at last year's show. It was supposed to be released in the fall and I haven't heard anything since....

Hey Enforcer,
Keep on waiting for games, and we will keep on playing games.
Well Daman,we didnt call Enforcer"Sybil 78"for nothing. One minute he loves this and the next minute he hates that.Hes a little"Comme Si,Comme Sa" at times.(Thats confused in French, for those thats never taken the language) But of course guys like us remain on the right path.I cant wait for next week.Pandora Tomorrow.Ahh....Other than that good post Daman.I couldnt agree more with what you had to say to "Sybil 78."

It's being released in August, I believe.

How can you guys dare bring up Pikmin 2 when DOOM 3 was announced 3 YEARS AGO!!! They've been showing us video clips and screenshots for the last 3 years of DOOM 3!

It's a good time to be a multi-console gamer. The big three all have killer games coming out for each of them. There are going to be so many games coming out the next two years on these three systems that it could keep a gamer happy a couple of years into the next generation of systems.
I didn't think that Metroid Prime had that great of visuals. There were tons of edges and corners where there should've been smoothies and roundies. I guess all FPS's look like that when there are close-ups of scenery.

Even though MP2 and WW2 may be at E3, what is the serious likelihood that either one comes out this year?

One of them will make it out this year on the GC.But like you I doubt that both games will make it stateside before 2004 expires.Hell neither one of these games has been released in Japan yet.I think the brownies are counting their chickens way before they've had a chance to hatch yet.

It probably won't surprise anyone, but Pikmin 2 is my #1 most anticipated game for the year, even over any potential Zelda sequels. Anything about it from last year's E3 that stood out to you? And this is the one game I'm wanting you to post about from this year's E3. (and Killer 7.)

Considering this thread is about what will be shown at E3, you're off topic.

Uh. . .yeah. The new Metroid game hasn't been released in Japan yet. You've said this before. And we've told you before, this is a game developed in the US, Metroid has a big US fanbase, not a Japanese fanbase, and it releases in America FIRST, not Japan.
It'd be real nice if you'd just stick to talking about what you know: NOTHING.

But who's counting how long it really took for the game to come stateside? As Long as the game is worth the wait it shouldnt be a problem waiting awhile for it to arrive.Pikmin 2 and DOOM 3 will come out when they are ready to.Now the original thread here was about Nintendo being all set to put MS to shame come next E3.Well I cant help but laugh at that statement considering how complacent Nintendo was last year with the way things went for their respectable booth.
Nintendo may impress the videogame world with anything that has to do with the GBA but as far as the GC goes? I think its going to be another case of all talk and not much to show or wow the audience.Once again it'll be the Sony/MS show with Nintendo as the opening act.Could I be wrong? Maybe. But if last year was any indication of whats to come it just may be another case of "deja-vu" before this one is over.

Is it your goal to get every thread closed with your senseless namecalling?
And to Daman, I didn't care for the original Splinter Cell and will not be purchasing/renting or otherwise playing the sequel. My love for the Metal Gear games doesn't stem per-se from the stealth aspect, but from the storyline and presentation.
Like I keep trying to tell you "Game", I play for fun. It's a hobby. Just like the AoE website is a hobby. Have you seen it yet? There is an entire page dedicated to little 'ol you "Game." Missed it? Oh well, you will know soon enough. The 15 current members & growing in the AoE have all been laughing our asses off at your schenanigans. Remember that little pic that you ratted on me about? Y'know...on the raft? Well, it's there too but about five times larger.
Nobody is going to give you the link to it right now. But rest assured, everyone on this board besides you is laughing at how inept you are when you couldn't even pick a lock in Splinter Cell's tutorial. Laughing at how you fall back on tired cliches and tv quotes. How you always talk about "yogurt" and "candyasses." How Folken kicked you to the curb in an online matchup of Capcom Vs. SNK 2 and how you lied and said it was really your brother playing.
You see, everyone at VGR has been getting an enormous laugh at your expense. Old & new gamers to VGR alike now know what a coward, hypocrite and just plain moronic person you truly are.
But....enough said. I'm not going to get kicked off of VGR over the likes of you. You see, I don't need to stoop to that low, low level that you are on. I have enough [b]talent and brains[b] to do it elsewhere.
And a shout out to my fellow AoE members Gadfly, Trebor and AOE Apocalypse for all the help you have given me on the site and to all AoE members the world over, thanks for the support! 15 members, 9 pages and 230 views and counting!!!

Well, Gaddy, it was, in my IMHO, head and shoulders above the other titles Nintendo (and the other companies) had on display like MGS: Twin Snakes, Rebel Strike 3, etc. I'd observed played the first Pikmin briefly at a friend's house and thought it was okay. But they seemed to have really added a lot of features to the sequel. For one thing, the garden was a lot bigger. This meant new plants (I think) that did different things. There also seemed to be more creatures around (including a nasty Tunnel Spider) as well as new obstacles in the form of broken bottles, trash, and some other stuff I can't remember. There were also new garden screens and new ways to use the Pikmin (at least I think the ways were new).
All this captivated me and I never even tried the co op mode (which was up and working, BTW)!
I'll be glad to check on Killer 7 and any other titles for you this year. :) Simply make a list of games you want to find out about. Before I go to the show I'll post a thread where you guys can let me know what games you're interested in. Of course VGR vets like you, Slade, etc. will get priority.

Jade Empire will probably end up being the typical Bioware RPG. It seems a sham to me that what's new for consoles is what PC's have been doing for years. Lack of numerical value doesn't mean the gameplay will be totally new and awe inspiring.
Have you read anything about Jade Empire? It plays nothing like any previous Bioware Rpg. First it's in realtime you actually control the action instead of just imputting commands like Kotor and Baulders Gate second the game is based around Kung fu and has numerous different fighting styles it seems like it will be more like Shemue than Kotor.
