Great characters make great games (most of the time at least).

Name some great/memorable characters and the game(s) in which they appeared. Some of mine are:

Guybrush Threepwood (cuz he's a mighty pirate) - The 'Monkey Island' games
Gordon Freeman (cuz he's a badass mute nerd) - 'Half Life'
Klaus Kerner - the dashing villain from 'Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis'
Jaffar - nasty villain of the 'Prince of Persia' games
Max Payne - *echo*
Codename 47 - the 'Hitman' games
JC Denton - 'Deus Ex'

I could go on, but it's your turn now.

The Nameless One: Amnesiac immortal protagonist from Planescape who has to retrace the events of his life everytime he suffers a rougher than usual near-death.

Fae Wong Fong: Amnesiac confused bi-polar progtagonist from Xenogears who happens to be the key figure to everything.

Garrett: "Evening ladies."

Guybrush Threepwood: "Swordplay is kind of like making love to a woman. You poke and prod til you finally hit something vital."

The Hamster from Maniac Mansion: "vrooooooo...squeak, squeak, squeak...BOOM!"

Heh- "Evening Ladies..." Yup, Thief II- Life of the Party. Great character. Most of the games I play have YOU as the central character with little or no quips from the character. My favourite character would have to one of the many I have created in NWN... Each has their own personality, but it's always refreshing playing a villian that rivals even Sarevok (which is another awesome character- "I WILL BE THE LAST, AND YOU...WILL GO FIRST!" Right before he breaks the neck and tosses the lifeless body of the Harper from the top of the building all the while laughing maniacally- SWEET!).

I doubt that. It's one of the MOST popular actually.

Interesting interview with Tim Schaffer (man behind games like Full Throttle and Grim Fandango). He talks about the importance of character development in games.

The talking sword in BG2 was a kick ! Duke Nukem, Kate Archer are also some of the better characters created.

Of course!! How could we EVER forget THE Duke!! Man... I'm ashamed of myself... though to tell you the truth, that game was a little ahead of my time...
