Hong Kong based online Video game retailer Play-Asia is reporting that Game Watch has published a article in their magazine with Viewtiful Joe 2 info, none of this has been confirmed by Capcom. Here is Play Asia's translation of the article:

The main character of the game will be Joe

A second character in the game will be Joe's girlfriend Silvia

Silvia is carrying 2 cheerleader like pom-poms

Joe & Silvia are fighting together in a team
(i.e., Joe can hit an enemy into the sky, where Silvia will finish him off)

The graphics and style of VJ2 will be similar to VJ

Also the gameplay & system will be similar

Viewtiful Joe 2 will feature 6 different transport methods

Most likely a different studio will be responsible for VJ2

Viewtiful Joe 2 is expected to be officially shown on E3

Viewtiful Joe 2 is expected to be released before Christmas 2004
Since it has not been confirmed, we don't know any specific details. But Play-Asia thinks it will be a Gamecube game.

Stay tuned for, hopefully, much more info on this.

While this is unconfirmed, if it is true, there is just one thing that seems unsettling: mainly that the original studio is not making the sequel. The same situation that happened with DMC may occur with this game and that would be a disaster.

Thanks for the info StrokeOfDeath! VJ2 sounds great.

But I am a little disturbed to hear that the game is not being developed by the same studio. Because of course the style and charm of VJ is what makes it such a great experience.

We'll have to wait for the final word from Capcom to be sure. By all means though keep the gossip coming though DeathStroke...

Another possible sign of VG2 might be the price drop of VG1 - which just happened recently. Down to a clean $30.

Ya, Viewtiful Joe without the original dev team, particularly producer Atsushi Inaba, would probably blow. If VJ is anything to go by that guy is nuts. A genius ( he produced the great RE :Code Veronica & Steel Battalion ) but nuts all the same.
After the magnificence of Viewtiful Joe it would be a crime to screw up the sequel, much like what Deathstroke said about Devil May Cry , whose sequel was a mere shadow of the first game when that other Capcom legend, Shinji Mikami, wasn't involved (off making the RE remake instead or something...)

VJ2 might blow, might not it all boils down to if the studio can handle the responsibilites of living up to the VJ. I guess we'll all have to wait till E3. Isn't VJ also going to be ported on PS2?

A little bit of new news. Apparently a Japanese magazine published teaser art for Viewtiful Joe 2, all but confirming that the game is being made:

Seems like the Viewtiful Joe sequel will include a second playable character named 'Silvia' along with simultaneous two player action !!!
It's like Bad Dudes vs. Dragon Ninja all over again. Hooray !!!

Only if they bring out a well-known Capcom character as the first boss, a la Karnov in Bad Dudes. (Karnov is a flagship character of Data East, who made Bad Dudes vs. Dragon Ninja.)

Joe's girlfriend Silvia is actually playable in the current Viewtiful Joe. You have to unlock her first by completing the game on adult mode. You can't play co-op with 2 players on Viewtiful Joe though. You have to play with Silvia or Joe through the entire 1 player game.

All the cut scenes are in Japanese if you play as Silvia though which totally sucks. I don't think Capcom knew this game would be a run away hit, so they didn't even bother making a proper language translated version.

There are also other characters to unlock but I haven't got them yet.

It's not Japanese they're speaking in the extra characters' cutscenes. They're speaking English backwards.

You know at the end of Viewtiful Joe, they pretty much left the whole thing open for a sequel and the rumored co-op mode of this game supports the ending of VJ.

What I heard on another forum was that the voice track for the game was played backwards in those extra character's cutscenes. It makes sense as I've watched a lot of anime and generally know what Japanese sounds like. What they're speaking in the extra characters' scenarios isn't Japanese.

That's totally true. You can even hear it in some of the words that characters use. Like when you're about to fight the second boss, and they are talking to each other, it's noticable. Sometimes, it also sounds like they just throw in two half-words together to make another word, done backwards.

It sounds really bads when you play the game with the final unlocked character, which I won't mention here in case some one hasn't gotten him yet.

Damn quick reply, never lets me edit my previous post.

Anyways, I was going to ask, has anyone unlocked the deal where you get to have unlimited VFX throughout the game? I think that you need to beat every level with rainbow V's on evey section. I've gotten all V's(not all rainbow) on levels 1, 2, 5, and 6, but nothing even close to the full rainbow deal.

That is by far and away the most uncool thing Capcom did with Viewtiful Joe. Why would they even bother translating that portion of the game to English if it isn't even comprehensible. The in-game speech is English. Only the cut scenes aren't though so I guess I can't complain that much.

Actually that is the only major complaint I have with Viewtiful Joe. It's still one of the best Gamecube games out there. I suspect that Capcom will do a better job with the North American version of Viewtiful Joe 2 now that they know the fan base is there and it will do well.

Concerning Viewtiful Joe 2:

http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/04/21/news_6094115.html

Both the Sony and Nintendo crows can partake in the caped hero's second adventure. First screens inside.
Last year, one of the most acclaimed GameCube exclusives was Capcom's cartoon-style beat-'em-up, Viewtiful Joe. Today, the publisher announced the game's sequel, Viewtiful Joe 2, will also be available for the PlayStation 2 when it is released this coming winter. Capcom also released the first images from the cel-shaded title.

Like the original, Viewtiful Joe 2 will feature a mix of 2D and 3D action. Returning are Joe, the film-geek-turned-superhero, and his girlfriend Silvia, who is now a superheroine herself. Both characters will be playable from the beginning of the game.

Besides having 40 new types of enemies, the sequel will also span several new environments, including a jungle, underground ruins, ancient Japan, snowy mountains and outer space. Joe's Six Machine will get new transformational powers that will let it turn into a racer, cannon, drill or submarine during different stages of the game. The caped hero will also receive a new VFX power, "Replay," which will let him triple the effect of attacks or power-ups.

"With new visual effects, enemies and challenges, Joe and Silvia are ready to take on an all new Viewtiful adventure," said Capcom's director of marketing, Todd Thorson. Viewtiful Joe creator Atsushi Inaba had even more to say about the game in his exclusive Q&A with GameSpot.

If this, RE4 and MP2 make it out during this christmas, I'll be a very broke but happy man.
