Super Monkey Ball was the first game I ever bought for my 'cube and still a favorite, easily one of the best games released in recent years. But it is also notorious for selling next to nothing and I am just wondering whether anyone else is into this game - and it's great sequel - as much as I am. It's one of the few games that can make me physically ill through it's addictiveness and, at times, crazy difficulty. And those mini-games... monkey billiards, monkey bowling. What more could you want ????
And a little tidbit. The characters in this game are tail-less which actually makes them apes not monkeys!! But then, Super APE Ball doesn't have quite the same ring to it...

Super Monkey Ball is my girlfriends favorite Gamecube game. But I think that both games sold quite well actually. My girlfriend picked up Super Monkey Ball with the yellow strip across the top for 20 bucks brand new. I think they only do that to games that have sold a lot of copies.
She has everything in the game unlocked. I play with her sometimes, but I get frustrated with that game easily.
:) I'm pretty good at the monkey golf though. :)

Super Monkeyball is one of the very best games of this generation, on any system. It addictive fun in single player, and yet it is also the best party game. . .better than the Mario Party series, IMO, because it is so new and different. Especially love Monkey Target and Monkey boxing, oh yeah, and I like Monkey Bowling a lot. Not all the mini-games are that great, but there is so much to do in this game. MAJOR replay value.
And because the mini-games, like monkey boxing are so easy to understand, with one button functionality, I can get both casual gamers and non-gamers of any age to sit down, try it, and have a great time with it.
I wonder how many copies these games have sold? They must have done ok. . . I've even seen monkey ball toys.

Yea, I think that is the real appeal of the monkey ball games. They remind me of Marble Madness on the Comodore. I think that casual gamers enjoy the game because it seems to be a test of reflex and coordination as opposed to video gaming skillz. I'll have to pick up Monkey Ball 2 for my girlfriend...

We bought Super Monkey Ball 2 when we bought our Cube (my fiancee and I) and it remains probably the best multiplayer game we have, right behind Mario Kart - Double Dash.
One of the most popular mini-games at my pad is the wacky bowling, or the bowling on the wacky lanes, or however you would like to word it. Monkey boxing and Monkey target are also favorites.
If I'm not mistaken, I believe the SMB series sold closer to a million copies each. It has done quite well.
