hey i'm getting my new pc on the 20th march, from my cousin who builds pcs as a small part time thing. The specs arent top of the range, but theyre ok for now... Athlon 2500+, 120gb HD, 512mb RAM, Radeon 128mb. I was thinking with the new generation of pc games like Half life 2, and Doom3 will this pc be of reasonable speed for very long?

It sounds like a good gaming setup, and I'm sure you wont have to worry about upgrading for awhile. Though I would recomend upgrading to 1gb RAM at one point, if your going to be doing real heavy gaming. Also, do you know exactly what model Radeon your getting? cause there's a lot of different 128MB Radeon cards out there.

No im not sure what type of radeon 128 it is. How much do you think itd cost to upgrade from 512 to 1gb then? Also is it easy enough to upgrade processors when the time comes

With an Athlon setup you can upgrade processors fairly easily, the heatsink will be the only thing that'll give you any real trouble.

It also depends on what mobo you're using. Since you're getting a 2500+ I'm guessing that you probably got a more recent model, so it'll more than likely support the max XP speeds.

I shouldn't cost much to upgrade from 512mb to 1024mb (just about one gig). You can pick up some real good Kingston HyperX 512mb DDR memory for around $95 dollars. I use it myself for gaming, and it makes a big difference. You can get stuff for less, that's just my pick. And since your having the system built, just make sure the Radeon your getting is AGP, and also check to see that it's not some kind of SE card. Other than that, really, all of the Radeon cards are good cards.
