GCN is a Sell Out!!! (http://www.totalgames.net/pma/19092)
This article is kind of vague. 50% of retailers are out of stock on Gamecubes. But come to think of it Gamestop only had 2 Gamecubes left when I was there. And Best Buy didn't have any?!?!
Again this article isn't very informative, so you can take or leave its credibility. It is dated from March 3rd.

I found another link to some similar information, so I guess it's pretty acurate. That $99.99 price tag is really moving systems. I bet if it was $100 even it wouldn't sell nearly as many though. Consumers are such fools :)

It's just 'cause most people are stupid in such a way that they find the idea of paying "less" than $100 for the system a better deal. Agreed, consumers are fools. :D

Its all about marketing. I remember way, way back when Atari was advertising the 2600 as under $50 which brought a lot of people into a buying a frenzy. The actual price was $49.99 though and consumers still ate it up.

You guys don't think that Mario Kart Double Dash, Metroid Prime, Zelda: Wind Waker, Super Smash Bros. or Super Mario Sunshine have anything to do with it? How about the upcoming Resident Evil 4 and Tales of Symphonia?

No, you see, people only buy the GC because it's $99. They don't buy games for it. If they did, it might mean that people actually buy it to play games on and NOT because it is at a "bargain basement" price. Obviously, everyone who buys a GC is going to smash it with a sledgehammer, of course.
It just makes so much SENSE, doesn't it?

I wasn't commenting on the poor quality of the GC or it's games. I think DD has something to do with the spike in sales. At $99.99 or $100, it's a steal.

Wow... as if Sloipbox doesn't have a free games when you purchase it... when you compute the game and subtract it from the original price... Slopbox is much cheaper.

I agree with you on that one. Maybe if the Xbox gave you games that don't suck with the console they would sell more.

Bottom line:The GC is still selling well because its so cheap.Games is the 2nd reason its selling well.If the GC was still at $149.99 we wouldnt be having this conversation right now. There are indeed some great games on the GC thats worth of a purchase as well. And yes I would love to take a sledehammer to a defenseless GC console. It would give me a rush.(Kind of like the way I felt when I finally killed that S.O.B.in Ninja Gaiden with the horse.)

Bottom Line:: All consoles sell because of price, Xbox sells because it is $180, Would it have sold as much at $300? No they had to drop the price. Price effects ALL console sales. Gamecube can afford to sell it cheaper, The console isn't a dvd player also so its understandable. The price has effected the gamecubes success but it DOESN'T change the SUCCESS part of it now does it?

Well Evolution it's been about a week and I decided to take you off my ignore list. Partially because you've decided to grace my thread with your presence. I would have to say that I've missed reading your biased posts.
Have you ever considered the notion that the only reason the Xbox and PS2 have sold is because they come equipped with a DVD player? Perhaps some people buy the Xbox because it plays movies on it? Of course those casual gamers also buy a watered down PC port or 2 a year. But the rest of the time they're just watching movies. At least the Gamecube buyers are playing Gamecube games. We know that as a fact because that's all the console does. Unless of course some people just bought a 100 gaming console to smash it with a sledge hammer.
The next time the Xbox has a spike in sales I'm going to make up any and every excuse under the sun of why people are buying the console even though the games suck.

By "all that" do you mean make up 101 excusses of why the Gamecube is selling so wildly?

Is Mario Kart that big of a system seller? I haven't had any urge to buy this game at all.
So, what's up with Twin Snakes? Has that game made a ripple anywhere, or did it crash and burn? Or was it overshadowed by Ninja Gaiden?

I can tell you one thing. Most of these people buying Gamecubes are also picking up a 1st party Nintendo game or 2...
Who wouldn't with the low price launch titles and most 2002 releases?!?!

This is actually true in my case. I already had Halo, Vice City, and Wolfenstein on PC. I had tons of games for the GC and GBA player and more on the way, but my DVD player was having troubles. As a gamer, it is always good to have more options, so I kind of killed two birds with one stone. I bought the xbox over PS2 because it was a better dvd player, and because the main genre of games I liked that GC is weak on is realistic racing games. At the time I bought it, the only games on the system aside from some racing games that appealed to me were Panzer Dragoon, Vince, Crimson Skies, and Oddworld. I had high hopes for Rare (still am hoping they do something, anything halfway decent) and hope Fable is all its promised to be.
Ninja Gaiden was just icing on the cake. But you're right, its spent more hours running DVD's than games.
Obviously something that people are wanting will jump in sales when it hits an irresistable price that opens it to a wider range of consumers. Anyone buying a GC, regardless of the price only has one thing to consider when making the purchase: are there games there I want to play? Hell yeah.
Like I've said before, you could put the nicest set of golf clubs on sale for $99, and I wouldn't rush out and get in on "the bargain" because it would be wasted money: I DON'T PLAY GOLF.

Ahhh so true. However, what if you did play golf and had a lousy set of clubs? Or what if you had kids that liked golf...or a wife that liked golf? Then maybe you would buy that set of clubs even though you were not in the market for them. Even though the clubs were nice, the price put you over the edge on the purchase.

I guess Nintendo's gamble to keep it simple with the Gamecube is paying off. I suspect that with the economy the way it is, this will also be a good strategy for the next round of consoles. Especially for Nintendo because they sell a handful of 1st party games along with the console. And the console is really defined by those 1st party games like Mario, Zelda and Metroid. The PS2 and Xbox on the other hand rely on the 3rd parties to define their consoles like Grand Theft Auto, Splinter Cell and Final Fantasy.

I dunno man. It might have something to do with the fact that the game isn't out yet...

Yes. Mario Kart is one of Nintendo's biggest franchises.

I don't expect MGS:TS to have a HUGE impact on Gamecube gamers. But nobody expected the REmake to have a HUGE impact on Gamecube gamers either. Now the next installment RE4 is exclusive to the Gamecube.
I really think there should be more updates of classic titles. I would especially like to see some old 16bit 2D platformers brought back to life with cutting edge graphics and sound. Like a cartoon (cell shaded) Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (from the Genesis) or something.

Man, when I was younger and playing games on the NES like the Ninja Gaidens, Marios, and Contras, I always wondered what they would be like if they had 3-D backgrounds. Well, they did Contra: Shattered Soldier, and I was impressed with how it turned out(esp. after all the crap Contra games on the PS1), but there have not been many more other than that, and it's a shame. I think the next step foward in gaming should be a step back to 2.5-D style of gaming. IMO, the 3-D platform genre is becoming stale. I would love to see a re-made Super Mario Bros. 3. Long live Tanooki, gawdammit!!!!!
The one game I've been waiting and waiting for someone(Electronic Arts, I'm looking at you) to remake is The Immortal(Genesis). OMG, I'd cream my pants if I ever saw that game remade!!!
