Sammy Studios has announced its upcoming Xbox Live-enabled online fighting game Iron Phoenix. The game, Sammy's first for the Xbox console, is currently in development at InterServ International, and it will draw inspiration from classical Chinese kung fu mythos.

Iron Phoenix will feature online play support for up to 16 players simultaneously. The game will let you compete in strategic, team-based battles while wielding a variety of melee weapons. The fighting will take place in open environments suitable to the kung fu theme. The multiplayer modes will resemble those found in traditional online shooters, and the game will also have a mission-based, offline single-player mode.

And heres the latest news on another upcoming game for the Xbox that'll support Xbox live:

Tron 2.0: Killer App announced

Climax will develop an Xbox-exclusive port of Buena Vista's classic-game remake.
Xbox Live subscribers, prepare to be de-rezzed. Today, Buena Vista Interactive revealed it is working on Tron 2.0: Killer App, an Xbox-exclusive port of its PC game, Tron 2.0. That game "re-imagined" the classic world of Tron, game series based on the 1982 film. Both portrayed anthropomorphic computer programs slaying each other in gladiatorial contests which humans saw as mere video games.

While the original Tron 2.0 was developed by Monolith, work on Killer App is already underway at Climax, creators of Sudeki and the upcoming MMORPG Warhammer Online. Climax also was the studio behind the MotoGP, GameSpot's Best Driving Game of 2003. "We saw Climax as the perfect choice and look forward to providing gamers with an even edgier, action-packed Tron universe," said Bob Picunko, director of marketing for Buena Vista Interactive.

For those who prefer battling human opponents instead of semi-sentient programs, Tron 2.0: Killer App will be Xbox Live-enabled. According to the release, players will be able to engage in either light-cycle races or first-person shootouts on Microsoft's online service.

As for Killer App's story, it will be set inside a war-ravaged computer system being overrun with a horde of rogue programs being controlled by an evil human user named Thorne. These programs will be able to corrupt others, causing them to rapidly outnumber the forces of order. Players will assume the guise of a human user who's been sucked into the computer world and tasked with destroying Thorne's Army.

According to Buena Vista, Tron 2.0: Killer App will be available in Fall 2004.

That's 3 on Xbox to nothing on PS2 (unless you count that boxing game).

PS2 owners have nothing to play anymore, I think it's hilarious.

Actually, we're getting Guilty Gear Isuka, Tappy. A completely new game in the series. And probably after that Sammy vs. Capcom. Have fun with Iron Phoenix because it ain't really a traditional fighting game.

also, climax is the only development house to have announced the first work in progress slated for release on the Xbox2 (the title goes by the name Avalon)

I hope all of their games have the same high standards that we saw in MotoGP 1/2.

Fighters as a whole are a very mixed bag. Online fighters probably aren't the best idea, mostly because of the small fan base.

I remember that there was going to a fighter game, that was supposed to be in First Person perpective.

All those games you mentioned for the PS2 is all good. But they're not online.Xbox now has 3 online fighters. And the PS2 nor the GC has yet to produce one.Thats pretty much the bottom line in a nutshell.

yeah but having an online fighter isnt to much to brag about. Its different from other games because you might have a lot of lag and your opponent doesnt so you could easily be killed in a few short hits. I call that frustration not fun.

well if the games are laggy then its nothing to brag about even if the ps2 and gc dont have one. its kinda a good thing they dont cus they dont have to worry about people complainin about laggin. and if they lag then the game would kinda suck and nobody would play it online then.

I think the best online fighting game ever would be Super Smash Bros.. D@mn you Nintendo and your anti-online beliefs!

Perhaps Super Smash Bros. 3 on the Nintendo N5???

You sure talk about online fighter a lot when you don't even have Xbox Live.

I agree with no. 1gamer. The Super Smash Bros. series is the most fun you can have with a fighting game. if any need to be online then the next one should be. but its much more fun to play with friends that you can talk to instead of a complete stranger half a world away.

Disregarding online fighters for a second. An excellent game that online, will I think be a staple component of is Killzone (homing rockets melded together with an AR, pretty sweet :) ) which from the latest screenshots I've seen is looking spectacular, clearly the single title that will define the PS2's graphical fidelity within its lifespan.
Transformers Armarda will put Custom robo to shame offline but particularly if there was going to be an online option (MMOGaming would rock: in the iron solded boots of Optimus Prime.

Everybody knows that if you want to play the best FPS's you play them on the Xbox.Killzone will be nothing but another "Better than Halo"hopeful.

Just like the first Dark Cloud was labeled as the"Zelda Killer".That was a joke considering the lead character looked just like Link from Zelda. Then you had another joke of a game called The Bouner that was labled as"The Streets Of Rage Killer" and that indeed was another joke presented to the videogame world. Now Killzone has come to do what? Take the crown from Halo? LMAO!!! Thats funny. The only game I see thats going to push the PS2's graphic power this year is MGS3.Other than that get serious!

Now the original thread was the Xbox has 3 online fighters and the PS2 and the GC has none.Thats pretty much the bottom line here.Changing the subject wont change the truth.
