When investigating another problem I noticed that the AGP Texture Acceleration button on one of the tabs in dxdiag was grayed-out and said "Not Available". How long has this been going on? Checking some other forums, I saw that it is a common problem associated with DirectX 9.0b (which I installed around December), and there are various solutions to it, including updating the mobo bios, reinstalling drivers, reinstalling an earlier version of DirectX, etc. I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet. Anyone here with 9.0b have this issue, or had it and fixed it? I was just curious.

I fixed my problem by reinstalling the SiS AGP driver. But if all problems could be fixed this easily. Wonder how long this had been going on? I know that it wasn't always "not available". I guess I'll have to keep an eye on dxdiag every time I load a new driver or whatever on my machine. Anyway, what's up with the activity on this board? I feel like I'm talking to myself. At least I'm a good listener.

At least you answered your own questions..I've been sorta overworked here recently.

I mean like 3 posts here in almost 3 weeks. I should be paid for my valiant efforts!

Did you notice any performance/quality differences between it being off and on Aku?

That's the funny thing. If I had noticed my games were performing crappy, I would have been investigating this a month ago. I only discovered the problem by happening to look at the dxdiag settings a couple of days ago. I've been playing GTA3 and Combat Flight Sim 2 lately, and neither has performed poorly. When playing GTA3 last night after enabling AGP Texture Acceleration, there was no noticable difference. I haven't checked framerates or run any benchmarks or anything though. People with the problem who ran before/after benchmarks generally have reported about a 25% difference in benchmarks when turning AGP Texture Acceleration on or off. Maybe you really notice the difference when playing a really demanding game with everything turn up really high. Maybe a game like IL2 Sturmovik (which I don't have, but I hear taxes your pc like nothing else). Or maybe I could fire up Mafia and test it out on super high res settings. Mafia is a pretty good system hog.

Speaking of DX, did you, or have you had success in changing from one version to another? [Im under the impression once you upgrade DX, theres no going back?].

There is some DirectX wiping utility out there for when you want to go back to an earlier version. I couldn't for the life of me imagine going back to an earlier version of DirectX except in the most dire of circumstances. Even some game not working on the newest DirectX wouldn't be enough reason.

I had the same problem and seem to have fixed it. A greyed out AGP Accelerator button.
I installed a new Radeon 9600 XT today and fixed the problem by deleting all NVIDEA drivers, reinstalling Windows 98 SE, and reinstalling my SIS MOBO AGP drivers.
I am now able to adjust my AGP acceleration in the ATI settings box.
I am now going to test it on Flight Simulator 2004.
