Just finished Castlevania:Lament of Innocence. Of course, I had no choice, having played just about every incarnation of Castlevania. I thought it was the $H!T, but at the same time wondering why I wasn't quite satisfied (of course gamers rarely are). Any ideas or comments anyone? Castlevania II was the best. It had action and RPG elements. You could even talk to NPC's. That is also my biggest complaint about the Legacy of Kain series..they seem to have forgotten about the RPG elements! Blood Omen, in my humble opinion, being the best of the bunch( I've beaten all of them including Soul Reaver I&2)When will they learn (sigh) :( I know in gaming years it's a bit dated now, but I'm just getting around to play some of the games I've missed. I also just finished XIII. Not bad. Any other new games you could recommend would be appreciated.

I thought Lament of Innocence was pretty good overall. It had good music, graphics, gameplay, etc. It just had no replay value for me. The best Castlevania, in my opinion, will always be Symphony of the Night.

Yeah, Symphony of the Night was great. I guess I'm a bit partial to Castlevania II. It reminds me of the simpler days (aaah, those were the days). I think we focus on the replay value too much, at least when it comes to action/adventure type games. Don't get me wrong, I think it's cool to unlock costumes, characters, weapons, etc. I just think its about time they really reward us for going the through the $H!T we do to unlock secrets. I'd much rather be able to unlock whole new levels and cut scenes when replaying a game like Silent Hill or Castlevania, without cutting the size or length of the game. I know there are limits, but we do pay 50 bucks a game (well...at least once in a while). I rented castlevania from Hollywood video. I'm glad I did. You are right. It had little replay value. Well I better retreat back into my cave. I'm at work and the boss could walk in at any moment. Kind of exciting though. Now i just need to wipe the registry files clean of evidence. If any one asks I was never here. damian

Thanks, Twelve.
Quite an indepth review. I must agree with you about the camera. It sucked. Why can't we have a camera like Jak II in a game like Castlevania. It can be done. It must be all the evil spirits in these satanic video games (blood curdling scream ) . Or maybe Castlevania was never meant to be played in 3d. damian

BAH!!! I still think that it should've been done in 2.5-D, and I'll say that until they do it, by golly!

You keep saying that and next they'll make Castlevania a FPS...and it will be set in the future. The thought alone keeps me awake at night...along with my model girlfriend...I...sleep...with...Oh, who am I kidding!

About Castlevania II and the original Blood Omen that is. There was just something about Simon's Quest...maybe it's just nostalgia...I don't know. I stayed up many a late night as a youngster with that one.
As for the original Blood Omen, the same can be said for that one as well. Although I really only played through it twice, the second time to find some of the secret areas that I had missed the first playthrough.
I still haven't played Lament of Innocence though, although I have played the hell out of the releases on the GBA, a good throwback to some oldschool gameplay. Currently trudging my way through the uber-creepy Silent Hill 3...just about done with this one I think. Good to see there's somebody out there with some taste for the classics. Play on little vampire...play on....

Nice. Glad you were luck enough to experience some the great games that many people miss out on. How about Bionic Commando. That was a great game. I also played a lot of text based games on the Commodore 64 like Asylum and Zork, but thats ancient history.
I loved Castlevania:Aria of Sorrow on GBA! I bought a Gameboy just for that game (and Metroid). They don't make 'em like they used to, but they come pretty damn close.
Anyway, aren't we supposed to be talking about PS2. I'm sorry...but... wait....who's going to stop me? Who dares oppose me!? Moohahahaha Moohaha...wait what are guys doing in my house. Get out of here! Heh, whats with the M-4's and black suits with...VGR...Hel...
HAHAHA JUST JOKING. IF I DON'T RESPOND TO ANY POSTS FOR A WHILE DO NOT WORRY I'M TAKING A TRIP TO TAHITI. SILENT HILL IS A GOOD GAME. I LIKED IT VERY MUCH. GOODBYE. DAMIAN

I have only played it on demo but it seems alot like Devil May Cry, and also the same graphics, it is a very good game im not putting anything against it but mayby they have copied some of the ideas of Devil May Cry

So you found it to be a Devil May Cry clone. Well, Lozza, my friend, I do agree that it shares many of the same charactersitics of DMC. It's kind of like comparing GTA:Vice City to The Getaway. In that one is similar to the other, except Vice City is a superior game in that it combines different elements of game play and does them all well.
In my opinion Devil May Cry was a better game. I must warn you that to blow it off, just because it 'copied some ...ideas of Devil May Cry' is to do the game a grave injustice. It took me awhile to get around to beating for the simple fact that there are better games out there, but give it shot sometime. Goodbye for now.
