Ok, I admit laziness & whatever else....I havnt found that spark for Morrowind the rest of you have.

What I did find was a nasty bit in the ass by a PLAGUE infested rat. I could just reload & make the effort to kill said rodent, but I will make this an opportunity of excitement by looking for a cure.
Ok, I looked......excitement over. Now tell me what is it Im 'plagued" with & how do I cure it [I just cant wait to get better & play some more of this action packed game..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz]. :D

You can buy cure common disease potion from a healer or visit a shrine, shrines are usually in the forts outside each town. Yeah, Morro's not all riveting you have to entertain yourself outside of the main quest. Develop your skills with a big axe and go out on a downward spiral of murder and rob the rich, become an outlaw, spend time in jail, you know all the usual things you do in everyday life...... :D

I though that was "eat the rich", not rob......

Heh, so that explains why I'm typing this from a jail cell! :( Don't listen to this guy, he'll only steer you wrong! ;) Man, Morrowind is SO much more than picking up an axe and killing things... It serves to deliver the craving in us to explore, to see what is beyond the next hill, or in the next door leading into a mountain... Don't just smash in the Noble's heads... you can if you like, mind you... but target the Slavers... they always never seem to see it coming for whatever reason!

That's my biggest gripe about the game...If you've been hostile to another caste previously, the other people of that caste don't reflect your hatred, reputation, or demeanor. Beat up a Slaver in one city... no problems, you can do it again in the next. Get a wanted level with the guards... and EVERYBODY knows who you are! Hmmm... GAY!

I suspected early on in Morrowind that there MAY be characters you dont want to kill as this would affect some of your quests. This being my first TRUE RPG [unlike Deus Ex for example], I knew taking the FPS approach would have negative results.

I understand the attraction to Morrowind for many here, & it is a deep game [even in SP]. I just wish the AI was a little more aggresive. The biggest challenge I get is from the creatures roaming the country side [unless I stumble upon some powerful foes without having leveled up sufficiently, or arrogantly challenge a mob or law enforcement].
No regrets picking it up, its a good "filler" for me...

Im gonna pick up my second RPG: NWN. Despite that I hear the SP is'nt as good as Morrowinds', its too cheap to pass up. [who knows, maybe I'll get motivated to change my modem to DSL & play online].

Ah, the slavers they were one of my main targets those dandies in 18th century garb and they were loaded with cash. I spent hours freeing slaves it was one of the more enjoyable parts of the game, ever notice how you never saw any of them again after you freed them? ungrateful bastards.
So, enough of this gay banter...Republic is out comrades! just read a promising review at gamesdomain where is advises that it's not for "casual gamers" LOL! that usually means it actually has some depth, looking good so far........... :)

Right on... that does sound good... I believe Combat Mission was thrown under the catagory- "Not for the casual gamer"... and that game has depth in spades.

E.T. If you want my honest opinion, you should just forget Morrowind. You seem to have given it a fair shot, and it's pretty safe to say that if you haven't experienced the "magic" yet, you never will. That's a shame since I and so many others on these boards have experienced the thrill of exploration that is more or less unsurpassed in Morrowind.

For me, some of the greatest moments were when I first started playing and when I was awed by the vastness of the landscape and the freedom you were given. Now, after well over 100 hours of playing time (and over a year on my hard drive) the enjoyment is wearing thin and the faults show through more and more. However, I still think it's one of the best games ever and has certainly given me more than enough value for money for me to recommend it wholeheartedly. In your case, however, it's just not the game for you. Maybe you should try some other RPGs (am I right in thinking Morrowind was your first?) and see if they're more your cup of tea.

P.S. I second all postive thoughts on Republic. I've been waiting for this for a while. Let us know how it turns out wolfbiscuits.

There's always Neverwinter Nights. Superior in many ways. However, I was one of the people that couldn't STAND Morrowind when I first booted it up. It was only the exploration that brought me back a second time, and it was the second try that got me hooked... It does offer alot of value, if you don't need to be guided by a linear plot. You MUST be a self-starter with this game... the game doesn't lead you on in any way at all. Maybe you should try following the plotline to a tee... That's a challenge enough finding different mission objectives.

Thanks for going "easy" on my Morrowind experience Moya. I just cant "tow the line" here on this RPG. PLEASE note that while I wasnt enthralled w/game, I do find many positive elements in Morrowind.
I have no regrets for having bought it, it serves as a good filler till Deus Ex or something else comes along to re-invigorate my gaming blues.
I'll keep it on my HD indefinately....

[1]Agreed, sticking to the main quest can be challenging [at least for an RPG "noob"].

[2] Point on self starter : Ironic, my real life is epitome of "self starter"[Contract Emp/Super], yet when it comes to gaming, I favor the linear approach...lol! Thats gotta change, & pronto!

[3]Yes, there is NWN to look forward to, irregardless of feedback
indicating the SP is lacking. Its just too good a value to pass up now [can be had for cheap].

What does the GOTY edition have additionally? Maybe a manual!?

I'm on my third time trying to get into Morrowind, and one frustration is many of the features aren't explained.
What is the purpose of this stat / spell ?
How do you perform a slash or thrust attack ?
Why isn't the item's sale price the same as the value ?
What in the world are these strange items I'm collecting ?

I got the OEM version, so did the retail version come with better instructions ? Know any resources online that'd help me out ?

Heres a link for Morrowind Guide. Useful, & it covers a section on Alchemy, that explains why it's the second most useful skill in the game:

Heres a FAQ that may be useful:

But the problem with this is i cant carry the weight. Is there any way to increase my strength quickly and easly. i am a member of the thievs guild mages guild an the thing that claus or what ever asks us to be part of the secret police thing. can u help!!!

moya

It's best to find a stash to store all your stuff. This can be a house or whatever (you'll have to "get rid" of the occupants first), or you could just pile your stuff up in the middle of nowhere - no one will nick it. This way, you won't have to carry all the stuff round with you.

Thanks that helps alot. Prehaps you can help again. I'm on the job for the thives guild where you have to go into a manor and get this vintage brandy because the owner has died. I addmit i should just perservier and keep lookin but i cant think of anywhere else to look. There is one chest which has a lock levl which is to high so i cant open it is it in there.

Man, this is dredging it up from the murkiest recesses of my memory a bit, but I think it's on a shelf somewhere in the house. This is the manor in Balmora right? With the dead guy on the floor? Try checking his corpse also - it may be there.

*edit* Just checked gamefaqs and it appears you can take your pick. Apparently there's a bottle of the vintage stuff on Ralen Hlaalo's corpse; a few bottles on some shelves; and a bottle in the locked chest.

thanks yeah done that now. should be ok for awhile. i have just been a real idiot. i found this real nice green glass armour. then i died and did not save it. so i got to search for it all over again. stupid or what! :o

moya
04-23-2004, 03:17 AM
Glass armour is really good if you specialise in Light Armour. You can nick parts of it from Ald Ruhn Warrior's guild (I think) and at the Ghostgate, but you need a high sneak skill for that last one.

You may want to try doing something radical like hitting her- and see if this can be enough to "bump" her out of the cage. You can also try going into the editor and "moving" her manually out of the cave. Lastly, if there is such a spell, you could try "teleporting" or "levitating" her out.
