February 13, 2004 - So close yet so far. Yeah, Ninja Gaiden is pushed back once again, this time by roughly a week. Granted, Team Ninja or Tecmo have never actually given a firm date, and both parties have yet to make any official announcement, but retailers are showing the new ship date for Ninja Gaiden to be March 2, 2004.

Again, Tecmo has not made an official announcement regarding the game's release date. All we can really go by is what retailers show, and that's March 2. Stay tuned for more Ninja Gaiden in the coming days.

The bottom line here is as many delays as Ninja Gaiden has undergone it better be worth the wait.Five games in one indeed is very impressive IMO.But if the extra time that Team Ninja is taking to secure that NG is that much better when its finally released then I'm all for it.

This should be posted in the XBox Forum, don't you think?

Hmmm... here's an instance where I can see some truth in what you've said about IGN's news though. GameSpots report was much more informative:

RUMOR #3: Ninja Gaiden has been delayed. Again.

Source: EB Games, which has changed the game's release date to March 2.

The official story: "I'm sorry but I can't comment on it until next Tuesday or Wednesday, when I should have a better idea on how the certification process is going."--Tecmo's ever-so-gracious John Inada.

What we heard: Ninja Gaiden had been selected as a nominee for 2003's Most Disappointing Delay even before its 11th-hour postponement on December 2, 2003. However, the series' first next-gen incarnation looked like it was on track for a release sometime in February. Rumors had been quashed by assurances from Tecmo, the game had got its ESRB rating, and the now-epic-length certification process looked like it was in its final stages. But the rumblings began early Friday, when keen-eyed forum posters noticed the date switcheroo. Judging by Tecmo's un-encouraging latest comments, gamers' hands may be old and arthritic by the time they get to grapple with Gaiden.

Bogus or not bogus?: Put those shuriken down, sonny! Not bogus.

It sounds like they're (pretty much) done programing though.
So I think this delay is quite a bit different from the other ones.

Yeah, should have been in the X-box forum. All in all, news isn't that bad but I want to see reviews for this game already. Even the latest GI scores had nothing on this game.

I told you you wanted this game! I told you you did! You want it don't you?!? Don't you!

Unless... you're only looking to see if it scores bad, so that you'll have some SW fodder?

Nightshade's reviews:

IGN-7.0

Gamerankings-68.8%

So far thats great SW fodder.Let us pray Glockstar that Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox isnt as craptacular as the PS2's Nightshade apparently is.

Nah, no system wars crap.

I did say in your old N. Gaiden thread that this was one of the few X-box games I really wanted.

It's an ok game. 70% is about the right score for it. I have it and played like 2 hours of it. There are some imporvements over shinobi. But, its story kinda sucks.

Shinobi had better reviews. But yet this thread is about Ninja Gaiden isnt it? Yep.I believe Ninja Gaiden's review scores will indeed be a hell of a lot better than Nightshade's was.You can count on that. Also depending on when we finally will get out damn hands on the game.LOL!

In all likelyhood, the game will ship between March 23rd and April 23rd. Remember, the game has yet to go gold-which means it hasn't gone to press to have the discs recorded. If Glock is right and they aren't finished programming yet, they may yet have some beta testing to do to iron out any last minute bugs. The March 3 release date is highly optimistic.

Hopefully, it will come out sometime soon. I have been waiting far too long for this game as it is already. And really, I want to have some time to play it before I pick up my FFXI/HDD bundle on the 23rd. From what I have read, FFXI will really draw you into it's world.

And also, I've gotten word that Gran Turismo 4 will support the custom soundtrack feature that will work side-by-side with the PS2 HDD's Jukebox mode.

So now not only will Gran Turismo outperform all Xbox racers in physics, car models and sheer number of awesome autos to earn & control, but the holy-grail of custom soundtracks will also rear it's head as well as online & network play.

"Gran Turismo 4. The real driving simulator." Indeed!

I dont't hink i want to get the ffxi/hdd combo when it comes out. I just want the Hdd. But, FFXI is in fact addictive. I have 5 or 6 friends playing it right now and they all love it. If their bodies did not require them to eat, sleep and take piss, etc, they would play that game nonstop forever.

GMR scored the game 9/10 about two issues ago. Kind of odd they had a review for a game that wasn't quite finished, but that's the only score I have seen so far.

Well, if everything went to Tecmo's plan, I'd be playing Ninja Gaiden right now. But I'm not (curses). It's actually quite annoying, because I should also be playing Halo 2 now if everything went accodingly for bungie, but I'm not. Sometimes I think companies do this purposely just to give the game extra hype, although Bungie doesn't seem like the company to do something like that. I hope they cut this crap and get both these games out ASAP.

I see you guys are all excited about being able to play GT4 with the luxuries that Xbox owner has been enjoying for two years now.Yes GT4 is the real deal of driving games.Just like Halo is the real deal of FPS's.Just like Splinter Cell is the real stealth simulator.Yes these are all things that real gamers are quite aware of.

Plus I cant blame anyone for wanting FF 11.100 hours of gameplay indeed is huge. But my question about the so called custom soundtrack feature on the Sony HDD.I wonder how many games on the PS2 will it support?

As much time as both Tecmo and Bungie is taking on both of these games there should'nt be no reason why both of these games would be anything less than damn near perfect.

With all the time John Romero and Ion Storm spent on Daikatana there's no reason why that game should have been anything less than damn near perfect.

With all the time Peter Molyneux and Lionhead Studios spent on Black & White there's no reason why that game should have been anything less than damn near perfect.

With all the time Quicksilver spent on Master of Orion 3 there's no reason why that game should have been anything less than damn near perfect.

With all the time 3D Realms is spending on Duke Nukem Forever, there's no reason why... oh hell forget it, I give up.

That's a good question. More than likely, it will depend on how many gamers buy the HDD. Overall, I think Sony will have to come up with more than FF 11 to sell those HDDs.

Yeah man, but all those guys were Americans. :p

That's why PC gaming will always be inferior to console gaming...

.... because you don't have the Japanese on your side.

Ugh, is that a joke? I can't stand Japanese-style games. Cartoon graphics, repetitive button-mashing gameplay... I've never played a Japanese game that was worth writing home about. Some are tolerable, but that's about the best that can be said. That's one of several reasons why console gaming is inferior to PC gaming... it's all cartoony crap.

Besides, all the best PC games are coming out of Europe these days.

Anyway, the purpose of my post was to poke fun at the gamers naive enough to think that "more development time = better game". Ninja Gaiden may turn out to be great, I don't know and I don't care. I just think it's funny that people will swallow the "they're taking more time to make it better!" line.

There is one reason and one reason only why video games or any software is delayed; the developers failed to properly plan out the development cycle. Either they left too little time for pre-dev work or too little time for testing--or usually both, because making the first mistake always leads to the second.

Now excuse me while I go count how many hours are left before Half-Life 2 is released. :)

I sincerly doubt this thing will sell well.My hypothesis on this Sony HDD thing is this:I think that Sony is secretly making the upcoming HDD compatable with The PS3.Think about it.Not only would Sony not have to worry about having to include a HD under the hood of the upcoming console, but it would also most likely enable them to knock off some of the targeted price of the PS3 as well.

Plus by the time the PS3 arrives Sony could simply knock down the price of the Sony HDD to about $50-$60 bucks.Perhaps there is a method to Sony's madness bringing this thing Stateside? Hmm...So what do you think? Far fetched? Or maybe this is a possibility that some of us may have overlooked?

Ahh, okay. Sorry, I can't tell on System Wars when someone is joking. There are people that would actually use your argument seriously.

LOL Videogames from Japan are like movies from India. They might be appreciated in their homeland, but man... not for me.

That's actually not a bad idea. How big is this HDD going to be, 40GB? I'm pretty sure the PS3 isn't going to use that much space when saving games, music, and downloadable content, at least not right away. If the old Dual Shock and Memory Cards from PS1 work with PS2, then they could/should make this HDD compatible with PS3. I could see a Sony Bundle with the HDD during the first few years of PS3's existence........
