Last night I was happily trudging through a swamp in the middle of the night in the fifth mission of Vietcong when my computer suddenly shut off and my monitor went black. The seller is shipping me a new power supply today, which I should get next wednesday. In the meantime, I'm without my computer through the whole Labor Day weekend (plus today - I've been off this week). Of course, my old pc died while I was on vacation a month ago, so twice in a month I've had a bunch of free time on my hands with no computer. I'm sick of this! This is going to drive me to an XBox!!!

I feel your gaming pain bro,...... the black out was actually caused by the VC you've been snip'n.They activated a self distruct code aimed at your 40 watt PSU [that was made in Vietnam]..... :D

BTW, I dont feel so bad paying $500 more than you for nearly the same system, shipped nearly the same time [now watch, mine will blow up due to arrogant Karama]..& Im NOT laughing out loud!

I've always hated the fact that you had to install games from CD Roms to PCs......It can be very hard. First, you have to read a lot of crap, I mean agreements. Then you have to select a drive, on where to install it. Then you have to wait for about 10 minutes. And sometimes, a sign pops up saying "You don't have the right components needed to play this game. Click here to download the blah blah blah"

That pisses me off. While with console games, you just pop in the disc, wait a few seconds and voila! You're off playing

The word "read" might be a little too powerful. I just zipped through them. ;)

I think you have my old P3 700mhz PC my friend! Your complaints of installing games on PC's are a thing of the past [at least for me]. Installs of even large games happen quick [2 minutes for 1.8 gb of C&C Generals*yuk], no errors or failures, just clean quick installs. XP has improved system stability 10 times over. After gaming/filing for four months on my new system [P42.66 512 RDram], I have had NO freezes or system crashes, ZERO file failures and but two CTD on Vietcong [I pushed my ti 128mb GPU to the limts in 32 bit, no more CTD w/16bit render]. Not to mention the boot up time is blistering fast, something like 30 seconds!
Yeah, PC's have changed in the last 18 months.

Call me unconventional but I kept my really old PC for emergencies which is a pretty robust old thing. I upgraded 8 months ago as my previous PC practically died 800mz 300ish mb ram Geforce 2, so I sold all the old working bits off seperately on Ebay not bad recoup as it happens, so anyway back to the point. If my current PC dies I 've always got my original 5 year old 500mz 256 ram TNT2 under the table, OK it's a dog by todays standards but at least I can get on line and can still play oldie games if I'm desperate I just dont want to be without a PC It kills my routine. :D

You know... I can honestly say I've never had a console "break" on me. Then on the other hand... I can say the same about computers though. The worst that I have had die on me is my monitor...

My new power supply should arrive today. Anyone know the best way to pry the big bundle of wires off the motherboard? Man, that thing is plugged in so tight it's like it has been glued. I just can't get it out with my fingers. Of course, all the other plugs disconnect easily.

There should be a little tab on the side that you press in to release its grip from the motherboard...assuming that it actually hasn't been glued in of course.

There's a tab on top, but it's hard to press it down with one finger while jiggling the plug out with the other fingers (plus, there is a capacitor right next to the plug on the left side, so I have no room to get my nubs in there! What a pain.

Got my new power supply tonight and popped it in. At least the company I bought this thing from sent me the new power supply quickly and without hassles. Well, this time I was only without my computer for a week. That beats July, when I was computerless for the entire month. I'm really sick of this. Hopefully, this new power supply won't burn out like the last one. I've got my Asus system monitor running in the background now to check the voltage. I think it was just a faulty power supply though...I hope.

Thats good news, though a week is long enough! I cant imagine being w/o my system for that long.
Do you mean to say that your new rig malfuncioned THIS July too?
BTW, is your PSU rated above 150watts?

Should you find lasting success AKU, get back to snip'n VC & let me know where you are in game. Did you get to "The Outpost" yet?
'Cong is enjoyable, but hard to return to when youve been away for awhile......

Yeah, better hope you don't have a short in your electrical system somewhere, where you may face the possibility of it blowing the whole comp... I doubt the company will believe the error is on their end if it happens again.

My old pc died at the end of June. I spent a couple of weeks shopping around for PCs and determining if I could revive my old one, before buying this one. I was without a gaming pc for about five weeks.

The power supply was/is 350 watts. It's a Raidmax (they replaced the bad one with the exact same kind).

Well all the electrical wires are connected to the power supply, so when I put in the new supply, I connected up all new wires. Anyplace else an electrical short can happen? I have no idea. Hopefully, I won't have to worry about it.

Well, if you have any friends that are electricians, you could always invite them over to test the electrical flow in and out of the socket... That takes about a minute, and will tell you if there's anything wrong with the power flow. Also if you have a surge protect on your power bar (which is worth the extra 40 bucks), you'll be fine, especially since most Surge Protected Power Bars have a $15,000+ warranty on anything hooked up to it.

I have a Belkin UPS with two battery backup outlets and a surge only outlet. The computer is plugged into a battery backup outlet, and the monitor is plugged into the surge only outlet. My speakers and other things are all plugged into a separate power strip. My old computer was plugged into the Belkin on this outlet for years, so I'm reasonably confident that it was just a faulty power supply.
