View Full Version : Does anyone want to be the Madden 2005 coverboy?
For years, that fat slob Madden took the cover of his games. Then for 2001 EA had the bright idea to go with the coverboy approach. Which started out great and has since turned into a curse for whoever takes the cover.
Eddie George 2001 cover (2000-2001 season)
Ran the ball 403 time (wow!) for 1509 yards and 16 TDs overall
Career average: 346 carries, 1283 rushing yds, 10 TDs
Daunte Culpepper 2002 cover
Injured - only played in 11 games
Was on pace to throw 13 fewer TD's, 3 more INT's, and fumble the ball 13 more times than in 2000-2001.
Marshall Faulk 2003 cover
Injured throughout the year - played in 14 games
Had 330 fewer overall yards than his career average and 3 fewer overall TD's and he failed to gain 1000 rushing yards for the first time in five years.
Micheal Vick 2004 cover
Injured in preseason - won't play until October, but late October/early November is probably a better estimate. So pretty much missing half the season.
I just feel bad for whoever takes the cover in 2005...Portis?...Ricky Williams?...Owens?...Shockey? Normally this kind of trend would slightly hurt a franchise, but fatty has such a hold on the football videogame market that he could just pump out a bunch of junk every year and people would still buy it. Oh wait...he already.........never mind.

Madden has become almost as bad as Sports Illustrated!

I'm thinking Peyton Manning will be on the cover and break his hand or something... still a great game, although it gets boring when you don't play it online...

I want to see the entire Kansas City Chiefs on the cover, so my Chargers can bounce back and win the AFC West in 2004.

Peyton Manning is the cover-child for MS's NFL Fever.
And hey, look at the year he's having... league co-MVP, and a near perfect passer rating thru two playoff wins!
Hmmm...
Methinks everybody will be wanting to get on the cover of Fever now, instead of Madden! Haw!

If that's the case, then I want to see Peyton's lil brother, Eli, on next year's Fever game so he can have an outstanding year. Of course he will be in a Chargers uniform, since we have the first pick in the NFL draft. WHOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOO!

Fah. You don't need Eli.
You have Drew!
Patience my friend, patience; Brees will be a good'un.
You'll see.

umm why did you neglect to mention priest holmes? hes only been the leader in yards from scrimmage the last three years and he was the nfl leading rusher the two seasons before this one. anyways i agree that drew brees will definetly be a good one so i doubt san diego will go after eli manning...hopefully by some miracle of god buffalo gets him so when drew bledsoe retires we got a good qb to take over for him. i think peyton manning deserves the cover...co mvp my ass he outplayed mcnair. mcnair is good but hes not amazing. he gets so much credit for "playing hurt" well as in the words of one of the new england patriots when asked about mcnair playing hurt "do you think hes the only one hurt? the only one injured? did he look hurt running around out there to you? we ALL play hurt!"

Brees good? Maybe for a team that needs a 2nd string. He made waaay too many mistakes to be starting now. He needs to be groomed for a few more years, but the Chargers don't have time to do that. We need a QB that doesn't make so many dumb decisions, and after watching games this season, Brees isn't the answer. He took a few steps backwards in 2003.
Before he got hurt and missed a few games, I felt that McNair was playing MVP-type of ball. Sure, Manning and the Colts beat them head to head twice, but McNair still had a great season. Manning is pretty hot right now. I have a feeling we will see him on the football field Feb 1st.
Look at me getting in my "SportsCenter" mode :D

I read somewhere that Ray Lewis is gonna be on the cover of Madden 2005, which is strange because in the past covers have always had offensive players.
