when running doom 2, the sound effects are choppy. I have a brand new computer. which irq...which dma channel? number of sound effects to mix??????

Please help

You've got a brand new computer so you're probably running XP. And as it happens XP doesn't particularly lke old dos games...if you wanna play Doom 2 I recommend you hit up

And run the game natively under Windows.

It's alot easier than figuring out your IRQ and DMA settings...

I would have thought that they would repackage Doom for play on today's machines and OS'. Package a collection with the original games and the thousands of levels and mods, stick it in a pretty decorative box (like Myst DVD Collection), and put it on the shelves at Christmas. Maybe the potential sales aren't worth investing time giving Doom a facelift. And they seem to be having enough trouble getting Doom 3 out anyway.

Actually Id did release Doom 95, a proggie that lets you play all the Doom wads natively under 9x (and presumably NT).

It still uses a software renderer, though. For that reason alone I'll never prefer it over Doomsday despite the fact that it's quite a bit easier to use in comparison.
