:mad:First, many 3rd party titles like Hitman 2 show up months later than the PS2 & Xbox versions and sometimes damn near a year later! By that point, the PS2 and Xbox versions have dropped significantly in price while the Gamecube offering still costs $50!
Next, ports of games on Gamecube are good, but not when Nintendo & Co. rake you over the coals on the price! Resident Evil 2, 3 and Code Veronica can all be had on the PSOne & PS2 for $19.95 or less each. RE 2 & 3 were both released on Dreamcast for $19.95 a piece. So why are these three games $40 or more years later on Gamecube?
Same goes for Sonic Adventure 2! This game costs $40 new on Dreamcast, yet it comes to Gamecube and costs $50! Now Sonic Adventure DX arrives for $40! This game could be bought from $20-$30 on Dreamcast new and was only $40 when it came out four years earlier!
Now, Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes-a remake of the PSX original-is coming out for $50. Excuse me? $50 for a six-year-old game? Enhanced or not, this game should cost no more than $30-$40 tops! Now rumor is spreading that Konami is porting MGS2 over to Gamecube for a retail price of....$50!!!!!
Now you can say that Nintendo-faithfuls didn't get to play these games because they never bought a PSOne and/or a PS2. But still! That is just raking the fans & loyalists over the coals!
Not to mention how Nintendo thinks their Greatest Hits are more worthy than Sony or Microsoft's by charging TEN DOLLARS MORE A PIECE! Why? Greed-that's why!
This post isn't bashing Gamecube, but rather bashing the business tactics of Nintendo. They have been cramming it up gamer's rears and treating developers like crap for years. And they wonder why Sony kicked them to the curb? Do they honestly believe the PSP from Sony won't be a viable contender for the GameBoy Advance SP? Geez...

Sounds like you have more of a problem with Capcom, Sega and Konami, then with Nintendo. As I believe those companies have a big say as to what pricepoint they sell their games at.
Or are you mad that Nintendo doesn't force those companies to sell at a lower price, which with the current trend of assumptions about Nintendo and it's third-parties, would make relationships worsen.
Also, since you are in the complaining mood, why don't you complain about Halo still being sold for $50? It's the highest-selling/most popular game on Xbox period, yet it isn't in their "Greatest Hits" line for $20. Why not complain about that too? They obviously aren't willing to sell it for less, because they are losing so much money as it is, they are desparate to make a profit anyway they can.
Good you don't live in Canada, GG, your blood would be boiling over.
Greatest hits and platinum hits pricing in canada. $29.99 can. vs. $19.99 US.
Players choice pricing in canada. $49.99 can vs. $29.99 US.
Nintendo wants $49.99 for a launch title like Luigi's Mansion. With nintendo's players choice series, you get $20 higher pricing and far less choice. Now, there's a winning combination. Part of the reason Nintendo doesn't like this greatest hits kind of thing, is that this was initially a sony iniative. Nintendo hates to admit that another company aside from themselves came up with a great idea that benefits not only the companies involved but also the consumer.
Sega and Capcom pricing on the gamecube is kind of whack. I can pretty much pick up any sega title cheap for the xbox, for between $20 and $30 canadian. On the gc, EB is still charging $64.99 for a used copy of Skies of Arcadia. Uh, I think I'll pass.
You'll pay less right now for a brand new copy of RE0 than for either RE2 or RE3. Now how does that make sense? Charging premium prices for straight up ports? Maybe Capcom and Sega think gc owners are that hard up, or maybe they saw that sega sold a half million copies of a port of a crappy dc title called sonic adventure 2 to cube fans. Only on the gc. Konami brings out MGS2 adds in all sorts of extras, the vr missions, and still had problem selling 6 figures worth on the xbox.
As for Halo, it should be brought down to greatest hits level pricing, at least, if not packed in with the xbox like in Canada. MS has been brutally slow to bring certain titles to platinum hits. DOA3 is just now going to platinum hits. It's a frickin' launch title. What's more, it still remains one of the graphic showpieces for the system. You want this title in player's hands. They wait now to release it as a platinum hit just in time to be completely ignored amidst the soul calibur hype. Smart move, microsoft.

This is part of what I mentioned in my previous post. Nintendo has the most ruthless/money grubbing money tactics of any hardware/software company I've ever seen. And before you Cubers start whining about how evil M$ and Bill Gates are, let me remind you of some of the big N's Greatest Hits of the past:
1) Purposely shorting retailers of N64 launch titles and consoles in oreder to drive up price/demand.
2) Threatening retailers such as E.B. that if they didn't give Nintendo titles more shelf space than Sony or Sega titles, they'd wouldn't recieve alotted N orders (never mind the fact that Sony and Sega needed more space because they simply had more titles).
3) Trying to freeze out Sega Genesis by making 3rd parties such as Konami, Capcom, etc., sign a contract saying if they wanted to publish a title on the SNES, then that company couldn't manufacture ANY titles for other consoles for several years.
4) Lockout chips -- if a 3rd party wanted to develop an SNES game they had to pay an exorbident fee for a "development kit" (actually just a few lines code, from what I read) in order to program games for the system.
5) The Tengen TETRIS debacle (those of you older gamers know what I'm talking about).
6) Lowest payout of publishing royalties ever to programmers/designers. Yes, they've recently raised their royalty payouts. But according to my friends at Atari, Vivendi, etc., they still lag far behind the other companies.
There are also a few more that I can't specifically remember (I bet Slade or someone has the links or knows) but I know that N got fined and dragged to court several times by different gov't/consumer agencies. All game companies have tried to squeeze us for $ (only 2 Controller Ports in the PS2? Sony, WTF?) but let's face it, Nintendo is a wolf in sheep's clothing. They make M$/Gates look like pikers when it comes to screwing over the consumer.
These guys are in for a rude awakening over the next 18 months -- especially when they're caught between Sony's PSP and M$ heavy hitting titles. As much as I enjoy some of their games, I won't be shedding any tears.

Don't forget the E-reader screwing; didn't that thing cost almost as much as the GBA Player? And the E-reader wasn't even useful for anything. Yep, they are a corporation plain and simple, and just as posessed by the evil of the bottom line as all of 'em (call me bitter, I spend my days doing very evil things for a large corporation.)
Anyway, you wouldn't mind elaborating about the Tengen TETRIS debacle would you? I don't remember that.
Thanks
From what I remember the FTC successfully prosecuted Nintendo for various misconducts. Their fine was to issue I forget how many millions in rebate coupons to nintendo customers to purchase nintendo product. Now, there's your government dollars at work, making sure companies who step out of line are justly punished.

Or something like that. What I kind of remember, but can't find now, was Nintendo being heavily fined an amount that was close to the amount they got from MS for Rare ($345 million) and around the same time - give or take 3 months.
But like I said, I can't find that bit of news anymore.
This is all I can find...
"The European Commission fined video-game-maker Nintendo Co. Ltd. €149 million (US$146.6 million) Wednesday [Oct. 30, 2002] for its role in a price-fixing cartel, the Commission's fourth-biggest fine to date against a company in a cartel."

I think I've mentioned this before, but the first offense by Nintendo to its customers, that I remember, was when they threw our requests for an NES adapter (for the Super, around 1992) back in our faces. Saying that they didn't think didn't think it was a problem to have more than one system hooked to our television sets. There's some irony there isn't there? :)

$6.85. Compaining that the prices are different by 10 bucks is pretty moot. If he were to drive to the States and pick it up, he'd be paying the exact same rate after exchange... not to mention the gas he'd spend getting there...

Halo, my friend, is a different story, the reason why they don't put it on the Platinum Hits or as you say it "Greatest Hits" line, is because Halo is still selling at regular price, because it is one of the best games ever made, MS wants to keep that running as long as possible, then maybe later when they see the sales drop alot for Halo, they will put it on Platinum Hits line, and get another wind of Halo sales.

Let's all face it.....Nintendo really hurt gaming players and makers alike, LOST A HUGE SHARE of both software and hardware markets and have LOST LOTS OF TRUST with everyone.
What is also painful to see is that Nintendo still continues some of the posionous traditions started by their foolish ex-pres Yamauchi.
When Iwata succeeded Yamauchi, I thought Nintendo would reform for the better.
But Iwata is just a puppet of Yamauchi's and Nintendo showed very little change.

I completely agree about Nintendo being a money-grubbing ass of a company. It's kind of ironic, considering they keep giving off such a family-friendly vibe, right as they try and rip the pants off you behing the scenes. Here's my list of things the Big N has done to piss me off:
1. Purposely short GCN controller cord.
Why is it so damn short? Perhaps it's because Nintendo knew it'd be releasing the WaveBird in 6 months. Hmmm... a wireless controller after such a short cord is a very good scam on Nintendo's part, especially when they're charging $40 for a battery-eating, rumble-less piece of plastic.
2. The E-Reader.
People have already mentioned how stupid this is, so I won't bother to beat a dead horse.
3. Small memory card.
This is another good scam to go hand-in-hand with the cord-length one. Nintendo had the Memory Card 251 in their book way before GCN launch, yet they hold off on releasing it until 6 months later, after everyone's been forced to spend $100 on all those stupid-ass Memory Card 59's.
4. Milking the Pokemon Franchise.
Rather than be smart and freaking release a console Poke-RPG, Nintendo insists on capitalizing on the franchise by releasing a bevy of dumbass titles that have N64-era graphics and absolutely no point. Another retarded Pikachu game? Sure, let me go pick that up. Not.
5. The Greatest Hits Issue.
It's already been mentioned, so I won't extrapolate.
6. GBA-to-GCN connectivity.
Hey, gamers! Check out this Nintendo-exclusive apron-designing minigame for MGS! You and four friends (who have to each have a GBA, GBA-to-GCN link cable, and a copy of the GBA game, approximately a $700 value) can simultaneously overturn rocks and look for fruits, which can then be used to feed ugly cat-monsters, who grow to participate in punching tournaments! There is absolutely nothing more stupid than Nintendo touting connectivity as if it's the doom of XBox and PS2.
7. Nintendo Power
This has to be the worst "official" magazine of the whole lot. Not only does it NOT offer demo discs for a disc-reading system, but its strategies are usually outdated (By the time they cover the third world of a particular game, you've already beaten it), and its reviews suck ass. Not to mention the fact that the magazine can't seem to grow out of a 4th-grade mentality. I happened to write a letter to them concerning their suck-ass reviews, and it actually got printed. For anyone who's interested, check out the letters section in the issue that features Viewtiful Joe on the cover (this month's issue) and look for Ketsuke Korosu. Afterwards, I suggest you also write a letter telling them how much they suck and need to improve.
Well, that's pretty much all I can think of right now. The GCN is a good system, but Nintendo needs to get their act together and quit being such an ass when it comes to a lot of things.

Why did they bother to even manufacture a modem/broadband adapter if there was only going to be one third party game manufactured for it? I didn't get ripped on this one, and I'm not really itching to get online with console games, but I can imagine the dismay of early adopters who bought an online adapter to play Phantasy Star while anticipating more online games.
