If you want similar to Zelda, you want Dark Cloud 2. It's all that. Chrono Trigger is one of the best RPGs ever, that stands the test of time since it came out in 95 I think. It has a great combo battle system but it's entirely different than the action based gameplay of Zelda or Dark Cloud. But trust me... Dark Cloud 2.

Dark Cloud 2 is the one to get. I heard that Beyond Good and Evil is similar to Zelda, but in what ways, I don't know. Maybe you should look into that one. Final Fantasy X is a good RPG to start with. It's easy, and looks nice, too.
Uhh, is Symphony of the Night an RPG? Someone?

Personaly, I don't really consider the Zelda series RPGs. I be more apt to call them adventure games.

Beyond Good & Evil is very similar to Zelda in presentation and play style. Bits of hack and slash mixed with puzzle solving and an engrossing story. I heard that since no one bought it (fools, all of them!) it dropped in price so check it out.

Dark Cloud 2 is probubly the best hybrid RPG/adventure game that I've played if you want to go that route.

Yeah you can get Beyond Good & Evil for 20$ everywhere. It hasn't even been out that long.

Those are also worthy mentions for gamers in search of a good RPG.

I would agree, I wouldn't consider the Zelda series to be RPGs. They could be considered RPG/Adventure, but not truly an RPG. If you're looking for some good role playing games, you need to start out with Final Fantasy X. The good thing about the Final Fantasy games is that you don't need to play the previous 9 to know whats going on in the 10th game. Then I would play Xenosage. I absolutely loved this game and I don't think it got enough credit. I think it had the most minutes of audio in any game ever made. And it will most defeniatly leave you wanting to play the second one. And my third pick would be Kingdom Hearts. It may look childish at first, but it was also a great game that.

Hope I could help.

If you've played Final Fantasy X and really enjoyed it like I did, then do not...I repeat...do not get Final Fantasy X-2. It was a big let down and it wish I would not have played it and let the story end with FFX.

Xenosaga is a futuristic turned based RPG. It felt more like a movie then a game (It has about 8 hours of cutscenes in it). I just finished it a couple days ago and I wasn't to impressed. Then agian I like my RPG's to be more like a book then a game. I'll tell you one thing though, its better then FFX. If you really want a good RPG for the playstation try xenosaga, suikoden 3, Wild arms 3, and Dark cloud 1 and 2. I you want a GREAT RPG get Xenogears, FF7-10, or Final Fantasy Anthology. All those are PS1 games though.

I have yet to beat Xenosaga because I keep putting it down to play something else.

Don't get me wrong, It's not that it's a bad game, it's just long as fu(k. Great story, but it feels like I'm going through the motions so I get to the next cutscene. Yeah, that's every game. But this one seems to never end. I just don't have time for RPG's lately.

I really like the combat system, but it seems like it takes an eternity to gain higher level attacks. You gain Tech points at a slower pace than you do Exp. points. And you have to use T.P.'s to level up your attacks. It's supposed to be 80 hours of gameplay (I guess if you play the mini-games for 20 hours) so It would be nice to have a wide variety of attacks.

I guess I should just give up my sorry social 'life' and devote my time to Xenosaga and every other 80+ hour game. I could be like Brad Pitt in True Romance and just get high all day and play video games. Who cares anyway. It's not like I'm doing anything important like curing cancer. Oh well...

If you have time, this game is definetly worth it. And the cut scenes give you plenty of time to hit the b0ng.
