GANGLAND

Dont ask me how but I managaed to play a beta version of Ganglang, MediaMobsters new title available in Februay 04. Here´s what I think....

Too fantastic. Anyone who enjoys Sims, RPG or RTS will get more than enough enjoyment from this game. Anyone who likes the Sporanos will like this game, anyone who enjoys kickin´ass will enjoy this game. In fact, just about anyone should. Why? Becuase it´s got all the elements you need for a great new title. You have 26 map locations, hundreds and hundreds of people living in the cities, hundreds you can interact with. You can build your very own Mob (family) then once you have decided on all that you can build an empire built on illegal activities. There are also problems and conquests to solve.

Not enough? Well when you realise that simply running an illegal business is not enough you can do drive-by shootings, put contracts out on people, set up extortion rackets, gambling joints, bootleging, brothels and all the other things any self respecting gangster would do. You can also compete with other players and get on the high score list.

In single player mode you are Mario, sent to kill his brothers who savagely killed another of the 5 brothers. In Multiplayer mode you choose to be one of the brothers, you must use your skills as a pimp, rackateerer etc to work your way up the ´family´ in order to take control of Paradise City. That is of course before you get killed by the others.

All in all, an action packed game using MM´s own engine, so don´t expect another Quake Engine game. Now I´m gonna make you an offer you can´t refuse. Get yourself a copy of the game and watch your back or I´m gonna start bustin some balls.

enjoy!

Gangland appears to have elements of Jagged Alliance & Commandos [RTS/RPG] thrown in, with a touch more graphic violence. From the publishers of often loathed "Postal" games. Extortion, prostitution, murder.....its not for everyone. View the slide show:

The "event engine" that alleges to generate new plotlines each time a new single player game is started seems unique?

GangLand is my type of game but I am still waiting for it to ship. They are saying the game shipments are a few days behind, it was suppose to be out the 4th of March but they said maybe it will be out next week. I played the single player demo and keep playing it over and over again freaking awesome violence and strategy. LMAO and you can have little Ganglets to take over your business. Cant wait to play the full game!!!

I stopped keeping track of this one due to release date being pushed back numerous times.
You indicate "They are saying the game shipments are a few days behind, it was suppose to be out the 4th of March but they said maybe it will be out next week".
I'll be looking for it. ;)

Quick overview for those unfamiliar:

You start the game by choosing to play as one of four different immigrant brothers who arrive in a fictional city similar to '20s- and '30s-era Chicago, working for a mafia don. Your role is to perform simple jobs to work your way up the gang hierarchy. These jobs include extorting money from local businesses as well as handling some hitman duties. As you earn money for completing these jobs, you're able to hire henchmen who can help you in combat. These henchmen vary from large meatheads (who are good at pummeling people), to lithe female assassins (who are armed with automatic weapons), to bazooka and sniper rifle-armed gangsters. You and your lackeys gain experience and become more skillful as you use your weapons and equipment--which you can upgrade at stores. As you work your way up the gang ladder, eventually becoming a trusted lieutenant and captain, you gain the ability to hire more and more henchmen. Soon you'll become powerful enough to overthrow your own don and take over his gang.

Once you become the leader of the gang, your responsibilities grow, and the game then takes on a more strategic scope. All of a sudden, the money coming in from the businesses you were extorting and buying off comes directly into your coffers instead of the gang's. It becomes even more important to capture and buy off businesses in the city to gain more turf than the other mafia dons you're competing against. You also need to set up businesses, like restaurants, gun shops, speakeasies, and brothels, to gain the funds you need to operate your gang. Paying off all the police who are lined up outside your headquarters, for example, becomes a task of paramount importance.

Another interesting gameplay aspect of Gangland is the inclusion of family. Eventually you're able to get married and have children. These children will grow up to become powerful and autonomous captains in your gang, and you'll need them to expand your criminal empire and to control more turf.

Gangland's graphics engine; rendering a detailed/convincingly lifelike city.Objects in environment can be used as cover during a firefight, and you're able to use the alleyways and insides of buildings to hide from enemies and set up ambushes--taking full advantage of line-of-sight. Characters, as well as static objects like telephone poles, phone booths, and trees, cast shadows on the ground during the daytime, while lights from buildings and lampposts provide illumination at night. The 3D engine lets you zoom in and out, and you can rotate the map in any direction you need. [from gamespot review].
