Regarding PC's stability as a gaming platform, progress has been considerable in the last year!
Since purchasing a new PC 4 months ago, this is what Ive noticed:
I no longer have to constantly tweak & or add/update GPU drivers to assure perfomance on new game releases [notice I said "new game]
This makes no claim however to bugs found in pc games. Its about the platforms stability.
The "blue screen of death" is no longer a problem, thanks to XPs' stability. Crashes are a thing of the past, even w/GPU settings cranked up!
No more desktop & in game resolution compatibilty problems.
I have installed/played the following games with ZERO glitches on my "out of the box" P4 2.66ghz, G4128mbti 512rdram system:
Vietcong, Morrowind [ok not much of a load], Splinter Cell [what amazing shadow detail], UT 2003, C&C Generals [kids game], & two older games w/out tweaking: Half LIfe/Deus Ex.
So am I just lucky? I dont think so. I base that conclusion on my previous three 1/2 years experience of gaming on a P3 500mhz G264mb 128mb ram system w/Win 98 se.
I think many negative posts made here are by people who are, or have gamed on older pc's w/unstable OS & a rat nest of driver conflicts they never worked out....PC tech stability isnt an issue like it was in days gone by, ask someone with a new, quality system.
