Im looking for help/suggestions on the possibility of having my own web page. Its the "abc's, nuts & bolts" I'm looking for. I'd also like to know how having a web page will inhance my gaming activities, & the obvious [to those who already know] how it will inhance forum participation [posting etc].

Keep in mind this is a hobby for me, so I dont wnat to get too serious right off the bat. However, I believe this experience would be useful in developing a page for my buisness latter on.

Just dump you ideas below, thanks!

I used to have a web page with my old ISP (two actually), but I got tired of updating them, and I haven't been too motivated to set up a web page on my current ISP. Doing a basic web page is easy. Just get yourself a book on HTML. And if you want it too be ridiculously easy, just use some web page making software, which is everywhere - Microsoft, shareware, those printer software packages you see at Costco. You can set up the basic web page with one of those, then go in and manually edit the HTML. Once you've done that, then it's up to you how elaborate you want to get with it (adding java scripts and all that other stuff). If you want to do a web page for a business, there's software out there for doing that (e.g., setting up generic order processing, inventory, etc.).

First of all, do you want to host a web page for free? If you do, visit the following sites:

www.freewebs.com

www.tripod.com

www.geocities.com

That's a really simple question......If your web page is based on gaming, it'll automatically enhance your gaming activities and blah blah blah. Just throw off some pictures of your games or put some downloadable items [items must be game-related, of course] in your web page.

But I really don't know how it could enhance forum participation, unless if you create your own message board for your web page.

It can be fun but as AKU stated pick up a book on html to know the coding some as most the wysiwig editors (you see what you get) make some mistakes. Frontpage 98 is old but I still use it although I have Macromedia Dreamweaver xp on the way. It is far supriorer but more complicated too from the looks of it.

www.netfirms.com (http://www.netfirms.com) also has free webhosting although the url for your site with be a sub domain of theirs. www.et.netfirms.com (http://www.et.netfirms.com) for instance.

Most isp's give you space on thier servers for personal websites free as well. Mine is here http://www.suite224.net/~orion/
Internet Explorer 4 and above has frontpage built in. A lite version that works fine. Geocities/tripod have editors at their site you can use.
Websites are fun for showing off your pictures and giving people alittle background. Domain name registration costs vary and I only bought a few for customers as I dabble just enough in html to make a buck on the side now and then. I have tons of books and at one time thought it would be fun to get more involved but dealing with the public is something I do not enjoy too much as I get my fill at work being a service tech.

Your site is one of the most eclectic I've been to

[Damn DBS, going to your site has got me off thread target, its time to shop, I'll pm you about available inventory.]

Thanks also for book references of web building, most useful for dummies.
