Okay, I have pretty much exhausted my searching for compatable sound cards for WinXP. I have heard that some will work, not work, blah, blah. I have looked at the Audigy2, Turtle Beach and Hercules cards. I also need a decent, but reasonable speaker system, mostly for gaming and an occasional cd or dvd. Maybe 5.1 or something decent. I have a set on 901's on my stereo system, so I really am not looking for a montser setup on the puter. Is newegg.com a good place to order from? The wonderful personalities that are employed at Best Buy & Circuit City were pretty much clueless on any conflicts with XP.

If you're getting a recent card then don't worry about compatibility. Basically anything that's 5.1 capable will probably run fine in WinXP.
Course even some older cards will run fine, too. My ass old Soundblaster Live has been kicking since 99.

I'm a running a Turtle Beach with XP because my old Soundblaster Live! card had a bunch of conflicts. So I dunno...

Oh I just installed an Audigy 2 in my XP system and have had no problems at all with it. It is a great card, especially if you have the speaker set up that allows it to shine! I just have a nice set of analog 2.1 Klipsch and they sound great with the card. I was using onboard sound before. Listening to music is where the improvement over the onboard sound is greatest. Gaming I can't really tell as much of an improvement, but there is some. I order from newegg often. That is where I got the card from. Never had any problem with them, and they process orders pronto!
Soundblaster Audigy 2 works flawless thus far on my system, with both old & new games.
